Skyrim talk:Mammoth

Frozen mammothEdit

A frozen mammoth is located West of Saarthal, about half way to a standing stone (not mapped yet so don't know which one), It is half encased in the ice with spears and arrows protruding from it's body and is easiest seen going from West to East. DracoZandros 22:56, 22 November 2011 (UTC)

Found it too. I guess that mammoth came to an unfortunate end. Wolok gro-Barok 23:02, 22 November 2011 (UTC)
It's SE of the Tower Stone. West of Saarthal, East of Hob's Fall Cave and North of Alftand. Pretty interesting find. Maybe giants and mammoths didn't get along so well in the past.
There is also a mammoth outside Cronvangr Cave that seems to have been spun up by spiders.Melleh17 07:47, 6 December 2011 (UTC)

Respawn?Edit

Can anyone confirm if/how long it takes for mammoths to respawn? Thanks! — Unsigned comment by 71.64.150.4 (talk) at 00:55 on November 26, 2011

They will usually respawn once you leave the proximity for around 72 hours (3 days in game) --Slyspy70 00:57, 26 November 2011 (UTC)

Mammuth Huntin'Edit

There is a great mammoth camp north of Western Watchtower and west-northwest of Whiterun. 3 mammoths here and lots of outcrops to run around.

Also GREAT loot in the chest by the Giants fire, it's an expert lockpick so bring a couple and your lockpicking items.— Unsigned comment by 24.52.20.2 (talk) at 10:46 on 4 December 2011 (UTC)

Yeah, over the last couple of days my low-level Khajiit has been hunting mammoths around that camp. Sneak, shoot mammoth, hide behind rock. I actually lured a giant all the way up to the gates of Whiterun and right now I and half the guards of Whiterun are trying to kill it. Thanks for the tip on the chest, by the way. I gave up after blowing half my picks, figuring it was probably just furs, but I'll have to try again tonight. Gideon Dragontongue 14:53, 6 December 2011 (UTC)

Oh bloody its a mammoth....and a person?Edit

I've seen people following mammoths around. Not giants, just.. people. Anybody know what that's about?7

Also: am I the only one who is scared of the mammoths? — Unsigned comment by 69.243.44.57 (talk) at 18:35 on January 1, 2012

There is a random event where bandits or hunters will gather and attack mammoths, that's probably what you've seen. I encountered one of these events at the elevator of Alftand. Melleh17 23:51, 1 January 2012 (UTC)

Giants and Mammoths don't respawnEdit

Hunting greater and Grand souls, I've cleared the entire map of giants and after 3 months of ingame time, not one has respawned. — Unsigned comment by 87.72.33.52 (talk) at 21:53 on January 16, 2012

I have had them respawn every time I leave the area of their camp for a few days. Try entering a city, then quick-travelling to a giant camp to refresh the area, and see if that works 216.59.229.234 01:05, 17 January 2012 (UTC)
Bad news, it looks like if an area is marked as "cleared", the enemies will not respawn, so if you plan to exploit the giant camps in this way, you need to leave at least one giant and one mammoth alive... — Unsigned comment by Gideon Dragontongue (talkcontribs) at 19:55 on January 17, 2012

Mammoth Playing GamesEdit

I don't know if this has happened to anyone else, and I can't remember which camp it was at, but I was standing still in this one spot, on this rock... high enough to keep from getting attacked by the giants, but low enough that the mammoths can get close enough to touch me with the tip of its trunk....

Every time I look away from the beast... it comes near me.... but when i turn around to face it, it runs away....

Turn around again and it comes back.... just staring.... turn to face it, it runs away XD — Unsigned comment by 98.145.73.21 (talk) at 02:04 on January 25, 2012

maybe you were holding a bow? people and creatures become sensitive to your line of sight when you equip ranged weapons. — Unsigned comment by 203.173.218.93 (talk) at 03:12 on January 18, 2013

Mammoth AssassinEdit

Whilst sneaking aboard the 'Katariah' near the end of the Dark Brotherhood campaign, I heard the guards begin combat, saying things like "found you, assassin!" I was sure I hadn't been detected, so I peered around a corner to see a host of elite soldiers firing arrows... at a mammoth standing on the shore, and taunting it as if it were Dark Brotherhood! I had barely finished cracking up when the situation developed - the mammoth glitched and appeared on board the ship, trying to take out the Emperor's guards! This was just the distraction I needed... — Unsigned comment by 203.173.218.93 (talk) at 03:07 on January 18, 2013

Falling mammoth bug - moved from articleEdit

*Sometimes mammoths can be witnessed flying up into the air, and can then fall onto another mammoth. The cause of this is unknown.

I'm moving this here because it sounds like another example of the usual Skyrim graphical glitch where creatures interact strangely with each other and the environment, resulting in odd movements. --Xyzzy Talk 18:23, 3 April 2013 (GMT)

This is noticed most often when teleporting into the presence of a mammoth. Since their boundary box is so large, when the game places them they may be inserted into the scenery. The game fail safe rejects the placement and puts the creature above as that is least likely to have collisions. Teleporting around the map to the various giant camps with nearby mammoths will eventually display this quirk. Sleeping Tree Camp has a very small spawning area close to rocks so can be noticed there more often. About 1 in 20 to 30 teleports. — Unsigned comment by Sniffles (talkcontribs) at 09:01 on 15 July 2013
I've had the same happen with a cow on the Loreius Farm when I fast-travelled there. Vicano (talk) 12:16, 1 August 2013 (GMT)
^This just goes along with Xyzzy's opinion, and I agree. Not notable enough to document on the article. — ABCface 20:06, 1 August 2013 (GMT)
Is it on the page for Creature Bugs? Dragon Guard (talk) 17:37, 6 August 2013 (GMT)

Mammoth hostilityEdit

If you get too close to a wild mammoth, it will turn hostile.

Actually, this is not common animal behavior. All other animals, with the exception of horkers and possibly a few others, will either be instantly hostile or run away when they detect you. Mammoths, on the other hand, will simply watch you. If true, this would be notable in the article, IMO.

That being said, I can't recall if I've ever been attacked by a wild mammoth for getting too close, so the validity of this needs to be verified if we decide to add it back. --Xyzzy Talk 17:25, 6 August 2013 (GMT)

It begins doing an "Aggro/Agressive warning to you when you're too close by swinging its trunk up then down. Only if you haven't attacked a nearby giant, whcih automatically turns mamoths hostile. Dragon Guard (talk) 17:36, 6 August 2013 (GMT)
Horkers attack, as do Mudcrabs and most bears dependant on distance. Silence is GoldenBreak the Silence 17:37, 6 August 2013 (GMT)
Yes, that could be a script in this AgroWarning animation. Dragon Guard (talk) 17:42, 6 August 2013 (GMT)

Immune to Slow?Edit

Slow poison and archery are a good combination to kill giants when you're normally too low of a level. However, I tried this on a wild mammoth and the slow poison seemed to have no effect. Is this a glitch? Or are mammoths immune to slow? Or are mammoths just really fast? Slow seems to work weird anyway, it seems enemies must change animations in order to start being affected by it, and again in order to stop being affected by it, but I hit it with a slow while it was attacking, then when I ran away it followed me at what seemed like full speed.
