This Skyrim folktale is very real … and needs to be stopped
Aerolf spent his life hunting the monster he calls the Pale Man which he claims abducted his brother. He asked me to help track down the creature so he can avenge his loss.

Quick WalkthroughEdit

  1. Find Aerolf at his farm south of the Hunter's House.
  2. Speak with Hautgerd in Dragon Bridge and Eyfja in Morthal.
  3. Return to Aerolf at his farm.
  4. Collect Draugr Parts from Dead Man's Respite (or elsewhere).
  5. Find the Pale Man's lair on the north coast.
  6. Lure the Pale Man out and kill him. Unlike other "lured out" enemies in other quests, depending upon where you're standing The Pale Man may not spot you and attack. He will be standing in an alcove to the west of the table.

  8. Talk to Aerolf outside.

The Pale Man
Finishes Quest Journal Entry
Aerolf asked me to speak with Eyfja in Morthal and Hautgerd in Dragon Bridge about their encounters with the Pale Man.
Objective: Talk to Eyfja
Objective: Talk to Hautgerd
Eyfja and Hautgerd witnessed their loved ones being murdered and abducted by the Pale Man on the northern coast of Haafingar. I should return to Aerolf and tell him what I've learned.
Objective: Talk to Aerolf
Once I told Aerolf what I'd learned, he asked me to follow him inside his small farmhouse.
Objective: Follow Aerolf
Aerolf consulted a map of Skyrim and marked the spots where Eyfja and Hautgerd encountered the Pale Man. I need to speak with him about what he found.
Objective: Talk to Aerolf
Aerolf asked me to gather draugr parts to use as bait for the Pale Man. One place I can find draugr is Dead Man's Respite.
Objective: Gather Intact Draugr Parts
I gathered enough parts to assemble a draugr body. I should look for Aerolf on the northern coast of Western Skyrim.
Objective: Find the Pale Man's Lair
I found Aerolf on the northern Skyrim coast. I should see if he has prepared the necrotic mixture he mentioned, and if he believes the nearby cave to be the Pale Man's lair.
Objective: Talk to Aerolf
Aerolf gave me sharpened bones to assemble the draugr parts. I must place the bait corpse on a primitive table in the Pale Man's lair.
Objective: Place the Body
The bait corpse is assembled. I must sprinkle the necrotic potion on it to entice the Pale Man to come out.
Objective: Pour the Mixture
The Pale Man emerged from its lair. I need to kill it before it slinks away.
Objective: Kill the Pale Man
The Pale Man is dead. Aerolf asked me to search its lair for any sign of its victims. I may find such signs on my way back out of the cave.
Objective: Gather the Pale Man's Trophies
I gathered a number of trinkets the Pale Man must have taken from its victims. I should show these trinkets to Aerolf.
Objective: Talk to Aerolf
Finishes quest  Aerolf thanked me for killing the Pale Man and avenging his brother. I should speak to him one last time before I leave.
Objective: Talk to Aerolf

* Any text displayed in angle brackets (e.g., <Alias=LocationHold>) is dynamically set by the game and will be filled in with the appropriate word(s) when seen in game.
  • Not all Journal Entries may appear in your journal; which entries appear and which entries do not depends on the manner in which the quest is done.
  • Stages are not always in order of progress. This is usually the case with quests that have multiple possible outcomes or quests where certain tasks may be done in any order. Some stages may therefore repeat objectives seen in other stages.
