Detailed WalkthroughEdit

Reaching The Hollow CityEdit

Witness the history of the Hollow City

Once you arrive in Coldharbour, you'll be greeted by Sir Cadwell, who is pleased to see you. He informs you that your party has been scattered, as Coldharbour's defenses make it impossible for anyone entering the realm unauthorized to end up precisely where they want. In the distance, you'll notice a land bridge, which leads to a structure, perhaps a city of some sort. Cadwell identifies it as the Hollow City. You should head there and see if you find anything helpful.

Head north and cross the bridge. You'll pass by Cadwell's Hovel and the corpses of a few fighters and mages along the way. You may have to tangle with a Clannfear or two as you walk towards the bridge. As you cross the bridge, you'll see the specter of a woman walking and disappearing every few meters. She always seems just ahead of you. When you arrive inside the largely empty city, you'll meet a woman who introduces herself as the Groundskeeper. She tends to this city and maintains the magic which protects its walls. Molag Bal's reach cannot extend into the city, which she claims belongs to another Daedric Prince, Meridia. You have the option of walking through the streets with the Groundskeeper and learning the city's history, if you wish. If not, you can tell her to get to the point and move on.

Taking the tourEdit

If you decide to take a tour of the city, the Groundskeeper will explain why the city is in Coldharbour. This city was peaceful, and existed on Nirn. Its people were devoted to Meridia. The Groundskeeper leads you from the southern gate to the crafting courtyard, where you'll see townsfolk going about their business. As you head down the stairs to the west, she'll explain that Molag Bal, an enemy of Meridia, sent his Daedric minions to attack the city. Everyone outside the city's walls were slaughtered, but the mages and warriors managed to seal the gates. You'll stop at the southwestern gate, at the crossroads between the Dark Alchemy Lab and the library. Four Mages Guild Adepts are facing the door, defending it from the Daedric invaders. The Groundskeeper takes you past the alchemy lab and over the bridge leading to the wayshrine. Fortunately, the Ayleid king, Laloriaran Dynar, was visiting the city when it was attacked. He was a skilled tactician, and took control of the city's defenses. The Groundskeeper will stop on the bridge, looking towards the western gate, where you'll witness a vision of King Dynar facing off against the invaders. The Groundskeeper recounts that the Ayleid king prayed to Meridia for assistance, and she answered. Molag Bal's portal worked both ways, and the Prince of Light decided to take the fight to him. She warded the city and flung it into Coldharbour. Her people were scattered, but some came back. Meridia warned them, instructing them to stay inside the city no matter the cost, but her people became impatient, and most of them left, dooming themselves to an eternity of pain at the hands of Molag Bal's servants.

A new quests awaitsEdit

After your tour (or immediately after you ask her to tell you what you need to know), the Groundskeeper informs you that your companions have been scattered to the winds. You should find them, rescue them, and send them to the Hollow City so you can build up an army to face Molag Bal.
