Detailed WalkthroughEdit

"How can you say such things? You monster!"

Conspire With LerisaEdit

Head to the Eight Blessings inn in Kvatch, where you will meet Crafty Lerisa, a pirate captain who you might have encountered earlier during your adventures. She is planning a little mischief involving the Society of Dragon—a cult of Akatosh—and asks you to help her. When you inquire as to why Lerisa is interested in a religious cult's doings, she explains that her sister Josseline has joined the cult and that Josseline doesn't know about the more violent side of the Society. With your help, Lerisa plans to reveal that side of the cult and convince Josseline to leave it.

Your task will be to pretend to be a heretic, spreading the word of Boethiah around the town and to provoke Grand Chanter Surus to arrest you for heresy. This would show Josseline the less pleasant side of the cult.

Spread a Little Heresy in KvatchEdit

To spread the heresy you need to speak to four cult initiates around Kvatch. Initiate Blatta can be found west of the Eight Blessings inn, near the General Goods merchant. When you speak to her, she says, "May Akatosh and the Divines smile upon you this day and all the days to come! If you're interested, I can tell you all about the Society of the Dragon."

Boethiah proclaims that only fools and worse than fools pray to the Divines.

Blatta will get upset and run off, yelling, "How can you say such things? You monster!"

Your next unsuspecting victim for spreading blasphemy is Initiate Perien who is standing near a fountain not far from where you spoke to Initiate Blatta. He will announce, "Do not despair! Akatosh watches over us, always. Lift your weary head and give praise."

Boethiah cares for those whose hearts are full of purpose and whose lives are full of deeds.

Perien does not take kindly to your words, saying, "How dare you utter such blasphemy in this holy city! The Grand Chanter shall hear of this!"

The third initiate, Ranius, is standing in front of the Cathedral of Akatosh. When spoken to, she'll say, "Akatosh bless you, outsider. What brings you to our humble town?"

I've come to spread the word of true power, the word of Boethiah! Let me tell you all about it.

Ranius will walk away, upset, "I won't listen to the lies of a Daedra worshiper! I'll summon the Grand Chanter. He'll deal with you!"

Lastly, the fourth initiate, Genele can be found at the Trader's Circle. She will tell you, "Lord Akatosh, the Dragon God of Time, brings fire in the cold of night and light in the depths of darkness. There's room for you in the Society of the Dragon. All you have to do is say the word."

The word is Boethiah. As in, Boethiah is better than Akatosh and the other Divines combined.

"Silence, initiate! Lieutenant, deliver Akatosh's justice."

"That's enough blasphemy for one day!"Edit

At this point, Lieutenant Mervial appears, yelling, "That's enough blasphemy out of you for one day!". When you speak to her, she will say, "Your foul words have consequences, heretic. The Grand Chanter has ordered you to appear before him."

Is there a problem?
"Problem? Yes, there's a problem! You're preaching Boethiah's lies to the faithful initiates of the Society of the Dragon! The Grand Chanter won't stand for that, and neither will I.
He orders you to appear before him in the Chamber of Penance."

At this point you have three dialogue options, which will however all result in you being escorted for judging at the Chamber of Penance.

You're obviously dangerous, so I suppose I have no choice.
"Well ... that's right, I am dangerous. Now march!
If you're lucky, the Grand Chanter's justice will take the form of a simple fine for all the trouble you caused. If you resist or continue to disturb the initiates, I can't guarantee your safety."
Why does the Grand Chanter fear the words of Boethiah?
"The Grand Chanter fears nothing, least of all a pathetic Daedra who pales in comparison to the mighty Dragon God!
Now go see Grand Chanter and face your judgement or I'll gut you here and now."

Search for Josseline at the old shrines
Help! Someone! They're going to make me disappear!
"No righteous citizen of Kvatch will raise a finger to help a Daedra worshiper!
Now march! If you cause further trouble, I can't guarantee your safety."

At the Chamber of Justice, things will go like Crafty Lerisa predicted. Grand Chanter Surus decides that the punishment for spreading heresy is beheading and orders the Lieutenant to carry out the punishment. At this point, Josseline walks forward, protesting against these methods and claiming the Book of Akatosh does not say anything about beheading. Lerisa appears, asking Josseline if this is the life she had hoped for. In the following chaos that breaks out in the chamber, Josseline, Lerisa and you manage to escape, however Josseline disappears before Lerisa has had a chance to speak to her.

In Search of JosselineEdit

Out of the Chamber of Penance untouched, speak to Crafty Lerisa. She is relieved that neither a bloodbath or a beheading took place, but disappointed that Josseline snuck away before they could have a word. Lerisa believes Josseline might have gone to one of the old Akatosh shrines and proposes that you split up and search near the shrines.

Lieutenant Mervial has been waiting to ambush you

The first shrine is located east of the Dark Brotherhood Sanctuary, but there is only an elderly pilgrim at the shrine who has not seen Josseline. The next shrine is located west of the Sanctuary and you find an elderly couple there, however they haven't seen Josseline, either. At the third shrine which is further to the west, you will be ambushed by Lieutenant Mervial, who is likely sent by the Grand Chanter to carry out the punishment which you escaped. Kill the lieutenant and continue your search towards the last shrine. You will finally find Josseline who is contemplating on what occurred earlier. She'll ask you, "You're working for my sister, right? How did you find me? No, never mind. Just tell me if you're here to talk or to kill me."

Why would you think I'm here to kill you?
"Oh, just those little things I noticed, like that cold look in your eyes. Or your rants about the splendor of Boethiah. Isn't killing what a disciple of the warrior prince does best?"
I'm just trying to help. Speaking of which ....
"Yeah, about that. I'm done with the Society of the Dragon. Turns out, religion doesn't really agree with the women in my family. Especially not a crazy cult with a murderous priest for a leader."
How did you get drawn into the Grand Chanter's cult?
"Now you're starting to really curl my spine. I could ask you the same. Just what were you doing spouting that Boethiah nonsense in Kvatch? Are you some sort of Daedra out to prove a point?
Are you ... are you Sheogorath?"
No. Just a friend.

"I'm done with the Society and I'm done with Kvatch. But I'm not going with you."
"That's ... a more honest answer than I expected. My sister sent you, didn't she? She just couldn't let me deal with this myself, could she?
And oh, look, there's Lerisa now. What a surprise."
[Lie] Yes! I'm Sheogorath. You discovered my clever ploy.
"That was ... unconvincing. Who taught you how to lie? Besides, even Sheogorath has too much self-respect to be involved with this family drama. Oh look. My sister's coming. What a surprise."

The Sisters ReconcileEdit

During your conversation with Josseline, Lerisa appears. When you speak to Lerisa she will thank you for helping her expose the corrupted cult and for saving Josseline.

Lerisa and Josseline will briefly reconcile, Josseline expressing that she is tired of Lerisa always coming to her rescue. She says that she is, however, done with the Society of the Dragon, but that she will not go with Lerisa. Lerisa accepts that, but says that she will be there when Josseline needs her.
