Kinlord Paredan

Kinlord Paredan is a High Elf who can be encountered randomly around Summerset, usually on the side of the road. He is the only sober member of a hunting party consisting of drunken nobles.

DialogueEdit

When you approach the group, he and Kinlady Aldermil will speak. The Kinlady will say one of several things, and the Kinlord will respond in kind depending on the party's quarry:

Kinlady Aldermil: "We can regale the court with tales of how Paredan bravely wrestled seven volumes to the ground. He'll have the paper cuts to prove it!"
Kinlord Paredan: "If we were hunting wine instead of indriks, our hunt would be the stuff of legend."
Kinlord Paredan: "Are you trying to marinade before the giant salamander roasts you?"
Kinlord Paredan: "Are you trying to lull the gryphons into a false sense of security with all the breaks you've been taking?"
Kinlord Paredan: "Is the plan to mask your scent with grapes before taking a welwa?"
Kinlady Aldermil: "Oh, put the book away, Paredan, you're sucking the fun out of this whole affair!"
Kinlord Paredan: "I wager I'll count more indriks between these pages than you'll find all day."
Kinlord Paredan: "You are aware that a welwa can smell us from over a league away. You, perhaps farther."
Kinlord Paredan: "Any gryphon that could see us now would think this is a farce, not a hunting party."
Kinlord Paredan: "Could you keep it down? At least one of us should know about giant salamanders before we face one."

Speak to him and he'll say:

"Please excuse me, but I was rather hoping to finish this next chapter of my book. I hope you understand."
What are you doing out here?
"A good question. Hunting, ostensibly. We're to claim some dangerous beast to prove ourselves the rightful masters of these isles. An antiquated tradition."
What are you hunting?

His response depends on what the group is hunting:

Gryphon:
Indrik:
Salamander:
Welwa:
"Gryphons. Gorgeous and yet terrifying creatures. Some of our greatest ballads are composed around besting or taming them.
Our story will be a fool's comedy."
"If you ask my compatriots, they will claim we are after an indrik, but unless they're attracted to the stink of wine I doubt we'll be seeing one today.
Probably for the best, such a majestic creature shouldn't be subjected to this."
"The giant salamander. A hard quarry to miss, unless you've spent most of the day with your head in a keg."
"Allegedly a welwa, but it seems the only thing my compatriots are capable of spilling are their drinks."
If you're not so interested in hunting, why not drink with them?
"Books have more interesting things to say.
And in the unlikely event that we do stumble across our prey, I would like to know what we are up against."

At this point, you can either ask him for advice on how to deal with the creature his party is hunting, or you can suggest he goes home. If you suggest he goes home, the event won't change, but if you ask him for advice, the nobles' keg will dry up, and the hunting party will move on.

Gryphon:
Indrik:
Salamander:
Welwa:
[Persuade] Do you have any tips for fighting gryphons?
"At least someone around here is smart enough to listen.
Gryphons are incredibly agile, both on land and in the air. You'll need to be quick on your feet or very well protected to survive against their ferocious attacks."
[Persuade] Do you have any tips for fighting indriks?
"At least someone is interested in learning. I read that indriks can travel between two places in a flash, making them elusive targets.
Expert hunters claim they're predictable prey, so it might be best to learn to anticipate their behavior."
[Persuade] Do you have any tips for fighting salamanders?
"It's good you asked. They're a tricky foe.
Giant salamander are highly adaptable and have a volatile relationship with the elements. Fire, lightning, you name it, and they can change their affinities seemingly at will."
[Persuade] Do you have any tips for fighting welwas?
"That's more like it. Welwa are said to have tremendous strength, but their cunning is what you need to be wary of. A lone welwa could be the sign of an ambush."
You should just go home.
"It really is hopeless, isn't it? Father won't be happy, but I'll tell him I tried.
If I'm lucky my books from the College of Sapiarch will be waiting by the time I get home."

If you ask him for advice, the hunting party will move on.

Kinlord Paredan: "Ah. It seems the hunt must go on. Please excuse me."
