The Song of KingdomsEdit
After finding one of the Hall's flyers, you can travel to Riverhold and the House of Histories. However, when you enter the hall, you will find Izanji and Iraya arguing.
- Iraya: "We don't have a choice, Izanji!"
- Izanji: "And what, you expect us to just stroll into an Akaviri crypt? Be reasonable."
- Iraya: "Well, if we don't recover those mural pieces, who will?"
You can talk with her afterwards, to see what the situation is.
- "Welcome to the House of Histories. You'll find no grander collection of curiosities and memorabilia in all of Elsweyr.
I would offer you a tour, but we're currently investigating a most unfortunate theft." - What was stolen?
- "An ancient mural called the Rithana-di-Renada, otherwise known as the Song of Kingdoms. It chronicles the time when Elsweyr was sixteen united kingdoms, working in harmony.
Unfortunately, it was shattered when the kingdoms entered into conflict." - So the mural is broken?
- "Yes, into exactly sixteen pieces. My brother and I found and restored each and every one. And then, just as we were about to put the all the pieces together again, they were stolen!
Oh, who would even do such a thing?" - I can help you find the missing mural pieces.
- "Thank you for offering to help.
Oddly enough, the thief did leave a note that mentions "a grave of snake men." I suspect it refers to the Tomb of the Serpents, an old Akaviri crypt. Hopefully that is where you will find the missing pieces."
After agreeing to help, you can ask more questions about the mural and theft.
- Isn't it odd that the thief left a clue?/You told me the thief left a clue. Don't you find that strange?
- "Yes, it is. But that clue is all we have at the moment.
It actually reminds me of the old Khajiiti legend, Rajhin and the Trail of Ink. Perhaps our thief is a fan of the trickster god? Wouldn't be too surprising."- Who is Rajhin?
- "He was a renowned thief who possessed the Ring of Khajiiti, which allowed him to be invisible, silent, and quick. He ascended to become an immortal trickster god and patron to thieves.
Rajhin and the Trail of Ink is but one of his many legends."- Can you tell me the tale?
- "Many moons ago, when Rajhin was still but a thief and not yet a god, he met a beautiful soldier named Captain Nasuna. He was captivated by Nasuna's beauty and skill, but she scorned all of his advances.
So Rajhin set out to woo her."- How did he woo her?
- "Nasuna guarded a merchant's estate. Five times Rajhin entered this estate, stealing an item and hiding it elsewhere. He left clues behind for the captain, daring her to recover what he stole.
And each time she prevailed, for she was as clever as he."- How was that suppose to woo her?
- "Rajhin was proving himself. By stealing these items, he showed his cunning. By hiding them away, he showed his honor. By leaving clues, he showed his respect.
And it worked. Nasuna was won over and agreed to be his lover."- But what does that have to do with your thief leaving a clue behind?
- "As I've said, many thieves wish to emulate the great Rajhin. Leaving clues at the scene of the crime is one way to demonstrate their cleverness.
Perhaps it is so with whoever stole the mural. Let us hope."
- Tell me more about the mural you were restoring./I don't have time for stories. Tell me more about this mural you were restoring./Tell me more about the mural you were restoring.
- "The Rithana-di-Renada was created during a time of peace between the sixteen kingdoms. It represented the unity of the Khajiiti people."
- But you said it was shattered?
- "The peace between the kingdoms did not last. The mural was shattered into sixteen pieces, one for each kingdom.
No one knows how it was so perfectly broken. Was it the clan leaders? Perhaps punishment from divine spirits? It is all a mystery."- Why do you want to restore the mural now?
- "Elsweyr faces many dangers now. More than ever, the Khajiit must band together.
I hoped that the Rithana-di-Renada would inspire just that. After all, it represents a time when all Khajiit lived in harmony."
After you have returned from the tomb with the mural piece and placed it, Iraya will return to the muesum.
- Iraya: "Our neighbors saw nothing, of course. Oh! You've found one of the pieces."
You can then tell her about your encounter with Rahjin's Shadow.
- "I see you've collected a missing piece! Sleek work.
Now, if we only had clues for the other fifteen pieces. Makes finding them particularly difficult for us, no?" - Rajhin's Shadow stole the pieces and gave me a book of riddles to find them all.
- "Rajhin's Shadow? I … I'll be honest. That's a lot to take in. But after all you've done for us, how can I not offer you the benefit of the doubt?
Feel free to place any mural pieces that you find. And here, something for your troubles."
After completing the quest, you can ask her more questions.
- "To think that the Rithana-di-Renada was snatched away by Rajhin's Shadow! Never would I have thought that to be the case.
Good luck finding the rest of the pieces. My brother and I will pray for your swift success." - Do you mind if I ask you a few questions?
- "Of course! What would you like to know?"
- How can I find the mural pieces?/And how can I find the mural pieces?
- "Rajhin has given you a book of riddles, yes? Each riddle should reveal where a certain piece of the mural can be found.
Hopefully they're not too out of the way. Though, knowing trickster gods …."
- "Rajhin has given you a book of riddles, yes? Each riddle should reveal where a certain piece of the mural can be found.
- What do I do with the mural pieces when I find them?/And what do I do with the mural pieces once I found them?
- "Feel free to bring them back here and place them in the mural's frame.
This should also help you keep track of how many pieces you still need to collect. Remember, there are a total of sixteen pieces that must be placed."
- "Feel free to bring them back here and place them in the mural's frame.
- Tell me more about Rajhin's Shadow.
- "Rajhin is a trickster god, revered by Khajiiti thieves. He possesses seven shadows to do his bidding in the mortal realm.
Unfortunately, it seems that one of these shadows has taken interest in you."- Why would he take an interest in me?
- "Well, Rajhin is known to punish the cruel and reward the cunning. Perhaps he wished to test you for some reason, to see if you're worthy of … something.
What the something is, I have no idea."
- How can I find the mural pieces?/And how can I find the mural pieces?
The Singing CrystalEdit
Once you've collected and placed all sixteen fragments, Iraya will appear back in the museum. As you approach, you may hear her mutter, "That's it! The mural is complete." However, she will appear to be slightly disappointed when you speak with her:
- "The Rithana-di-Renada is finally complete! Oh, I can't believe you were able to complete such a task, five-claw. My brother and I will be forever in your debt.
Though, I am a little disappointed there is no music." - Music?
- "The mural is called the Song of Kingdoms, yes? Legends say this because it plays a most beautiful song, representing the harmony of our people.
After all, it is traditional for Khajiit to express themselves through music." - But it's a stone mural. How can it play music?
- "I'll admit, I've never been sure of how it plays the song. Perhaps through an enchantment?
I can't help but feel that we're missing something here. Something that wouldn't be clear until the mural was restored once more." - I'll take a look and see if we missed anything.
- "Good idea. No harm in having a look, now that the mural is complete.
The Song of Kingdoms …. I always wondered what it sounded like, ever since I was a kitten. I've read so many stories, but never was the song actually described." - Why is the mural so important to you?
- "Aside from the fact that it might save our museum from financial ruin?
Ancient songs and scriptures have always fascinated me. It's almost as though they allow me to … visit a different world. And I want everyone to be able to experience that." - I see. It sounds like you have a rather personal connection.
- "My father would tell me stories of our people in front of a roaring fire. Even the most dull tales sounded magical coming from him.
History is more than mere facts. The way we remember things is important, yes?"
As you examine the mural, a familiar face will appear though Iraya will not be impressed:
- Rajhin's Shadow : "Looking for something? Rajhin is here to help."
- Izanji : "Rajhin! It's—it's actually the Shadow of Rajhin! Iraya, look."
- Iraya : "I see him. Stop messing with my museum, you muskarse!"
If you talk to her before the Shadow, she will be annoyed:
- "I don't care if he is the avatar of a trickster god. If that muskarse thinks he can just steal the Rithana-di-Renada again, he has another thing coming."
After speaking to Rajhin's Shadow, Iraya will tell you:
- "So you must now retrieve the Singing Crystal, yes? I have never heard of such a thing, but it does explain how the mural plays its song.
If I was a warrior, I would offer you my blade. For now, I will just wish you luck."
Once you've acquired the Singing Crystal and returned to the House of Histories, you will find that a crowd has gathered. Speak with Iraya who will be standing next to the mural:
- "Please, don't mind the crowd. Izanji got a tad carried away when the mural was completed. He has invited wealthy nobles and merchants even from Pellitine in the south.
Were you able to find the Singing Crystal?" - I have the crystal.
- "I'm pleased to hear that. Finally, the Song of Kingdoms will sing once more.
And, should all go as planned, the House of Histories will receive some much needed donations today as well." - Does the museum really need donations?
- "If we're to keep our doors open? Yes. After all, collecting the wonders of Elsweyr does not come freely. Nor does our rent, for that matter.
But never mind all that. Please, you should have the honor of placing the Singing Crystal." - I'll place the Singing Crystal then.
Once you place the Singing Crystal, a beautiful song will begin to play. You can then talk to Iraya:
- "The Song of Kingdoms. I didn't know it would be quite so … beautiful. And thanks to you, all of Elsweyr will be able to hear it. Perhaps even inspired by it, yes?
Now, more than ever, we need to spread hope." - Hopefully, Rajhin won't bother you any further.
- "Well, I suspect his involvement had much more to do with you than the mural itself.
Feel free to visit the House of Histories anytime you wish, free of charge. And here, a gift for your many troubles."
Iraya will then address her audience:
- Iraya : "The House of Histories is proud to reveal the Rithana-di-Renada! Please, step forward for a better look."
- Iraya : "This mural was created as a symbol of peace, many centuries ago. Sixteen kingdoms, yes, but one mural, one song, one people living in harmony."
- Iraya : "In this time of turmoil, it is our hope that the Rithana-di-Renada will inspire a renewed commitment to unity and peace."
If you speak to her after the quest, she'll say:
- "Let us hope that this mural inspires all of Elsweyr to come together, just as the sixteen kingdoms came together long ago.
We need that unity, now more than ever."
Heir of AnequinaEdit
If you assisted the House of Histories, Iraya will be at the coronation of Queen Khamira.
- "Congratulations on saving all of Northern Elsweyr. Makes our time together seem tame, no?
Hopefully I can convince the new queen to take an interest in our museum. After all, there's so much Khajiiti history we have yet to share."
