Minting at Miscarcand
A discussion of Ayleid platinum coins

The name "Minting at Miscarcand" is merely what this survey team has dubbed the parchments that have been found and translated so far. The page shown at left is the most intriguing specimen found to date.

The real articles are unnamed and we don't even know to whom the narration was directed. It is important in the fact that this is the only explanation ever found for why there is Ayleid currency here that has such a unique minting symbol. This symbol has been determined to represent the smelting pits of Miscarcand, and indeed platinum dross has been found there with the addition of quite a few blank coins.

Completely to our surprise, we actually have found evidence here to suggest that the original Platinum coins, Delarians, were considered to be more valuable or indeed, genuine versions of the Miscarcand variety. Apparently these coins with this minting symbol represent a period of difficult times for the local Ayleid magistrate who, acting in desperation, created a large quantity of these lesser coins to pay for their mercenaries while the real ones went to their own people.

This has caused the unique Miscarcand Delarian to be worth uncharacteristically more than it would have otherwise with true interest coming from collectors and scholars. More research will follow as our team members have uncovered more scrolls and parchments of this nature - most of it following the war of Tarastaren with the Nedic tribes up north (around 1E 1586 or 1587) and the strange sickness of 1E 1590. It is considered strange in that this is the only account of its occurance ever found, and we still have yet to determine what the Heartlander term, "Tchoellio" represents, but its usage here makes it sound like it was foreign born. Perhaps a disease spread through contact with the Nedic peoples they were in conflict with at that time, or it might have even been magickally created by their enemies (or themselves!) for usage as some type of weapon in the war.

The Emperor, his majesty Reman III, has graciously let us continue our work here despite the courts opinion that research of this nature is useless to the military cause that is needed now. We will continue as quickly as we can as there are many more areas of the ruins yet to be uncovered...
