WalkthroughEdit

This quest starts when you find a note in the Old Fortress Ruins that speaks of a spy in the Bravil Mages Guild. Return to the manor, round up Sorla, and head down there to check things out. You'll find a pair of new students - Aedrus and Aedrian - who purport to be twins. Under closer questioning, however, their stories don't quite match up, and Aedrus will let slip that someone's watching. At this point, you should have a good idea who the rebel is; you can confront either man, but the real one is Aedrian.

If you call him out, he'll momentarily paralyze you and flee out the door, which leads to a different realm. Follow him up to a tower gate, which he's trying to unlock, and you'll get a cutscene where Sorla confronts him. After they're done talking, you'll regain control and he'll fight to the death. Be sure to loot his corpse - you'll find a map to the next rebel camp on his body. Return to the Mages Guild and talk to Aedrus, and he'll give you a potion as thanks.

If, for some reason, you acccuse Aedrus of being the rebel, Aedrian will escape in the confusion. But fear not! Aedrus has a key to a casket on the shelf near Ardaline's counter; it has another copy of the map inside.

Journal EntriesEdit

The Power of Magic (ODDHQ01bMage)
Stage Finishes Quest Journal Entry
10 I found a note that says that the rebels have infiltrated a mage into the Mages Guild in Bravil. Hm, Sorla has worked for the Mages Guild for a long time. Perhaps it wouldn't be a bad idea to ask for advice.
20 Sorla has found a note in the rebel camp. It says that they want to infiltrate a spy into the Mages Guild of Bravil. I will know how to prevent this. And Sorla will also accompany me to Bravil. We will find that damn rebel. The Mages Guild Hall in Bravil is not that big.

or

Sorla is willing to accompany me to Bravil. We'll find that damn rebel. The Mages Guild Hall in Bravil is not that big.
40 A man named Aedrus admitted to being new to the guild. Maybe he's the rebel? I'm not sure. Might there still be other new students here in the guild?
45 In fact, I've found another new student in the Mages Guild in Bravil. And he looks just like the first one. Maybe both of them are spies? I should question them further.
50 Aedrus still denies being a rebel. When I responded to his brother, however, he reacted… suspiciously.
55 Aedrian mentioned that his brother has been very strange lately, making a lot of pauses and stammering when the conversation turns to the Empire. Is this an indication that Aedrus has secretly joined the rebels without even his twin brother Aedrian noticing something about it?
60 Something isn't right here. Aedrus mentioned magic. But on the other hand, this could also be a trick...
70 When I wanted to ask Aedrian, he made himself known as a rebel and cast a paralysis spell. Then he disappeared through the front door. But I'll still catch up to him. By Akatosh! (If you don't kill Aedrus.)

or

I killed Aedrus, because I thought he was a rebel. I should search him for clues to his connections to the rebels and deliver the message to his brother Aedrian. (If you do.)
75 (No entry if Aedrian is dead.)

or

When I told Aedrian about his brother's death, he behaved very strangely. Something isn't right here. I should look more closely at Aedrus' workplace. (If Aedrus is dead.)
80 (No entry if Aedrian is dead.)

or

Oh no! I killed the wrong twin. What a misfortune! I have to take Aedrian. I hope he has not yet fled. (If Aedrus is dead.)
80 Aedrian, or the Great Rand, or whatever his name was, is dead. Thus, the true rebel has been found and the rightful punishment applied. (If you kill Aedrian)

or

Damn! Aedrian slipped through my hands. He must have fled while I read the letter. Poor Aedrus - he only had the courage to tell me about the wrong twin!

Notes
  • Not all Journal Entries may appear in your journal; which entries appear and which entries do not depends on the manner in which the quest is done.
  • Stages are not always in order of progress. This is usually the case with quests that have multiple possible outcomes or quests where certain tasks may be done in random order.
  • If an entry is marked as "Finishes Quest" it means the quest disappears from the Active Quest list, but you may still receive new entries for that quest.
  •   It is possible to use the console to advance through the quest by entering setstage ODDHQ01bMage stage, where stage is the number of the stage you wish to complete. It is not possible to un-complete (i.e. go back) quest stages. See SetStage for more information.
