The Old Mine is a mine under a hut northwest of Cheydinhal that serves as a bandit hideout. The place is hard to find—it's due north of the Desolate Mine, at the top of a narrow defile. The hut is locked and requires a special key, which you obtain from the bandit leader in the Underground Vault.

ExteriorEdit

  • The exterior is located at coordinates: Tamriel 24,27
  • This location does not have a map marker.

Zone 1: HutEdit

The "hut" is actually a medium-size cottage; it is primarily used for sleeping quarters, as it has six pallets laid out on the floor. A dead bandit (a guard) lies dead by the fire. A trapdoor in the back corner leads down to the mine itself.

Zone 2: Old MineEdit

This zone consists of a tunnel leading to a huge cave carved out of the rock that includes some Ayleid ruins. The bandit leader (who's now dead) used this as his headquarters. Standing at the far end of the room, you'll find Helgarth, your missing knight, who was on a mission of his own (see Clue for Clue).

Zone 3: Old MineEdit

Just inside the passage at the end of Zone 1, you'll find a set of broken boards. Push those down, and follow the tunnel beyond until you come to a small room beyond a door. There are two exits here; the one ahead leads to an opening over a pit (it's not really deep, so if your Acrobatics is high enough, you could drop down without harm), while the one to the right leads to the final room (Zone 4). An opening at the bottom of the pit leads to a passage once use for carts; there are two doors here. One is locked (the key is in the next zone) and leads down into some buried Ayleid ruins, and from there links up to Desolate Mine. A door in the tunnel also leads to Zone 3.

Zone 4: Old MineEdit

Follow the tunnel (there are no side passages) through some caves and Ayleid ruins. There's not much here of interest (beyond some skeletons) until you get to the very last room; you'll find a sack with a key to the locked door in Zone 2.
