Fangs of Sithis Images and IconsEdit

Hey guys - I'm the guy who originally created this page. Multiple times in the past now, I have attempted to add images related to the fangs to this page, only for someone else to delete them.

The thing is, the rationale isn't consistent with other pages. For example, MolagBallet said "We try to use images of the actual artifacts as opposed to icons." And yet, the main Icon I was using I pulled directly from the https://en.uesp.net/wiki/Lore:Fang_of_Haynekhtnamet page. At another time, I did in fact have a screenshot, only for that to be removed for unspecified reasons.

So the question is this: what do I gotta do to get an actually gallery up in this page, such that some dude won't just remove it. — Unsigned comment by Speedboosttorchic (talkcontribs) at 23:03 on 29 September 2020 (UTC)

Looking at the history of this article I'd have to say that the reason the icons aren't being used is because neither of those icons are unique to the weapons. As a counter example, the Moonlight Blade has icons unique to it. But you mentioned the Fang of Haynekhtnamet, and you made me realize that dagger icon shouldn't be on the page so it will be removed. The icon used for Nahfahlaar's Talon was removed from Nahfahlaar when it turned out that it wasn't unique at all for the same reason.
As for the screenshots, images showing the UI tend to be removed or replaced. I'm not sure about the quest, but if the Fangs appear in world you could get a screenshot of that.--Talyyn (talk) 02:50, 30 September 2020 (UTC)
The Fangs don't really appear as an object in-world. Their models are just the same as the Argonian 4 Motif, anyway. However, at one point, Barvyn picks up a Fang and then gets a dark, swirling aura around him. Would this work? As well, the Fangs do have an Egg icon associated with them before they take their weapon form. Could these be unique?
Thanks for the answer by the way. My first comment is coming across a little more dickish than I meant it to. Hopefully we can get these things a picture!--Speedboosttorchic (talk) 03:48, 30 September 2020 (UTC)
The effects the weapons have on a character (aura and such) could work as an image. As for the egg icon, if it is the blue one then that one has been used for a lot of items.--Talyyn (talk) 03:55, 30 September 2020 (UTC)
If the items are important enough to have a lore page despite appearing as generic icons, I don't see why there should be a barrier to including those icons on the page. The deleted gallery seems fine to me when we have no better image of these artifacts. —Legoless (talk) 08:11, 30 September 2020 (UTC)
Because ESO icons are used as an indicator what type of item it is and does not resemble the item itself. Take a look at the uses of something like File:ON-icon-stolen-Teddy Bear.png. I don't think we suppose that dreugh, Peverel Stemuseph, King Kurog, or Alfiq look like teddy bears. We see the same with basically every item icon, except when the icon is unique. --Ilaro (talk) 09:13, 1 October 2020 (UTC)
So are you going to tell me that this isn't a goblin in Oblivion Mobile, just because it uses a generic/reused model? It's not up to us to decide how something is depicted in-game, but it is our purpose to document those depictions. I see the ESO icon has also been deleted from Lore:Fang of Haynekhtnamet, something which I strongly disagree with. Why purposefully make an article less complete? —Legoless (talk) 13:03, 1 October 2020 (UTC)
No, I'm saying that this does not depict Hermaeus Mora or Clavicus Vile, even though it's used for their Daedric Prince statues. ESO uses generic icons to indicate what kind of item it is. The icon does not represent the item itself. If you're going to argue that generic icons should be added to their lore page, then why not all generic icons that are used for places, weapons, etc? --Ilaro (talk) 14:02, 2 October 2020 (UTC)
For your example, we have a better image of that shrine and don't need to use a map icon. In comparison, we don't have a better image or in-game model for these artifacts, so these reused icons are the only depiction. Better to show something from ESO than nothing at all. I am not at all advocating that we add useless icons everywhere; rather, we shouldn't be opposed to using them as depictions where it's called for (instead of deleting them out of hand because it's an icon or a generic game asset). —Legoless (talk) 14:26, 2 October 2020 (UTC)

() I'm not sure what else to say except for repeating myself and I'm not sure how to easily resolve this conflict in opinions. I don't think it's productive to add icons that don't necessarily depict the item in question. I'm of the opposite opinion of you, better to show nothing than to show something that's just a generic icon. --Ilaro (talk) 15:39, 2 October 2020 (UTC)
