Detailed WalkthroughEdit
Cutting the Cutters LooseEdit
One of the patrons at Snowstone Rest is Avar, speak to him and he will reveal he is fleeing Cyrodiil to escape the notorious criminal gang Thorina's Cutters. He was guarding a caravan in the mountains and killed all but one of the Cutter's raiding party and is now fleeing for his life. He asks if you can deliver a letter to his brother Hulgard, who runs Northern Arms in Bruma.
Travel down to Bruma and you will come across what may be Avar's caravan, with two Cutters lurking near the shattered wagon and bloodied corpses of its owners. Once you arrive at Northern Arms, deliver the letter to Hulgard, who will reward you with leveled gold (see below). About five days after you complete the quest, you will receive a letter of thanks from Avar, who is now lying low in Skyrim.
Levels | Reward |
---|---|
1–9 | 250 |
10–19 | 400 |
20–29 | 500 |
30–39 | 600 |
40+ | 750 |
NotesEdit
- This quest is disabled - and Avar removed from the game - once you complete Against the Cutters. Likewise, the quest will fail if you kill Thorina before speaking to Hulgard.
- In his Avar's Letter of Thanks, Avar will mention that he fully intends to return to Cyrodiil once Thorina's Cutters are defeated. However, he will not do so even after you complete Service Rewarded.

- The following empty quest stages were omitted from the table: 0, 5, 250.
- Any text displayed in angle brackets (e.g.,
<Alias=LocationHold>
) is dynamically set by the Radiant Quest system, and will be filled in with the appropriate word(s) when seen in game. - Not all Journal Entries may appear in your journal; which entries appear and which entries do not depends on the manner in which the quest is done.
- Stages are not always in order of progress. This is usually the case with quests that have multiple possible outcomes or quests where certain tasks may be done in any order. Some stages may therefore repeat objectives seen in other stages.
- If an entry is marked as "Finishes Quest" it means the quest disappears from the Active Quest list, but you may still receive new entries for that quest.
- On the PC, it is possible to use the console to advance through the quest by entering
setstage CYRSnowstoneRestFF02 stage
, wherestage
is the number of the stage you wish to complete. It is not possible to un-complete (i.e. go back) quest stages, but it is possible to clear all stages of the quest usingresetquest CYRSnowstoneRestFF02
.
