Skyrim RedirectsEdit
After a few years of inactivity, NepheleBot has been resuscitated in order to help with creating Skyrim redirects (for example, redirects for every individual item names). The serious action will start as soon as possible once the game is released, but it's possible a few minor batches of redirects will be done before November 11th. This task is effectively a continuation of an old ongoing task, namely "Creating Redirects", but given how long it's been since the bot was active, I wanted to post some extra notification about the new activity.
Also, given the relatively urgent need for creating redirects as soon as Skyrim is released, it may be necessary to temporarily relax some of the restrictions on bot activity. Specifically, I will probably need to be able to run the bot during high-traffic periods, especially on the weekend of November 12-13. In addition, the frequency of bot edits may need to be increased (current frequency is once every 10 seconds). I'll be evaluating these issues over the next few days. --NepheleTalk 04:20, 29 October 2011 (UTC)
Deletion of OccupantsEdit
I don't know why, but when this bot "Updates Place Summary Parameters," it ends up deleting listed Occupants of the location. One example is on the Chillwind Depths page, http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim:Chillwind_Depths. Please fix this issue. It's deleting what I spent time putting in, and my information is very accurate. — Unsigned comment by Willman (talk • contribs) on 15 November 2011
- It's not deleting the occupants, but rather replacing the occupants with information taken from how the place is categorized For example, Chillwind Depths is categorized by the game as a "Falmer Hive", meaning that Falmer are guaranteed to be the primary occupants. The bot is filling in that information on every page listed as a Falmer Hive, and likewise for Vampire Lairs, Bandit Dens, etc. That's exactly what the bot summary says that it's doing: updating parameters in the place summary based on game data.
- Also, the infobox isn't supposed to give an exhaustive list of every creature you can possibly encounter the cave. Rather, it should just provide the main creature type -- which in the case of Chillwind Depths is simply "Falmer". The chances are that any additional details you're providing are randomly determined or level-dependent. For example, Frostbite Spiders are categorized as "nuisance" creatures, which probably means that they can randomly appear anywhere in the game. Falmer Nightprowlers are just a variant of Falmer, and don't need to be listed separately. If you feel that such detailed information is necessary, it's probably best to put it in the main article instead of the infobox, which is only supposed to be summary information -- thus the name "Place Summary"
- That said, however, the bot script that ran last night still needs some tweaking. I rushed to get it running, because running the bot was the only feasible way to create several hundred missing place pages. I felt that getting those pages created in a timely way (and thus pre-empting the need for New Page Requests to manually create each page) was a higher priority than handling every possible circumstance with existing page data. Your work wasn't lost, as you demonstrated by using the undo feature. And the reality is that anything you add to any wiki page is likely to get completely rewritten ten times over during the next month. But none of those edits are even possible until the initial page creation is done. I'm just trying to do my best to get the Skyrim content in place and available as quickly as possible. --NepheleTalk 02:59, 16 November 2011 (UTC)
Sorry to stop youEdit
This is just a quick question whether you are aware of the discussion here. --Alfwyn 18:05, 25 January 2012 (UTC)
- I'd noticed the discussion and was intentionally skipping doing anything with factions that have disambig-related complications. But I hadn't realized that the discussion meant that somehow a moratorium had been placed on creating new redirects. --NepheleTalk 20:02, 25 January 2012 (UTC)
- No, it wasn't any such thing. But part of the discussion was, if all those redirects are really necessary/wanted at all. If there is a good reason to create them, there is no problem creating them - I was just a bit surprised to find them suddenly being created without any comment on that discussion. Redirects will give hits on misspellings and turn up in search results, it's a bit like whether we want all those plural->singular redirects. --Alfwyn 20:38, 25 January 2012 (UTC)
Bot's recent edits causing incorrect formatting on Magic Effect pagesEdit
I noticed that NepheleBot's recent edits to the various Magic Effects pages resulted in the formatting of the opening lines being messed up. More specifically, a line break was deleted which now causes the Alchemy/Enchanting descriptions generated by the Effects Summary template to run together with the edited pages' main text. See the bot's Feb 12th revision of Skyrim:Fear for an example. I would normally correct this manually, but the bot edited several dozen pages, so I was wondering if the bot could be easily made to fix its mistake in this matter. If not, I'll try to get around to it myself soon. Arcanist 08:23, 14 February 2012 (UTC)
- I changed the {{Effects Summary}} template instead. Editors shouldn't have to remember to add an extra blank line when using this one template. And it wouldn't really be that easy to get the bot to fix it -- the blank-line cleanup is part of its default way of handling a template. --NepheleTalk 09:04, 14 February 2012 (UTC)
- Awesome! Changing the template also works, I only wish I was familiar with template syntax myself. Everything looks good now. Arcanist 10:17, 14 February 2012 (UTC)
Sorry to stop the bot, but...Edit

skills parameters incorrectEdit
A recent run seems to have made quite a few mistakes in the skills parameter. For example:
- Skyrim:Classes#Citizen has 3 primary skills, but the recent run edited them out, leaving 1 major and 1 non-skill.
- And the most recent edit happens to be poor little Ysolda, where all her actual skills were dropped in favor of 1 non-skill.
- Skyrim:Classes#Farmer has 3 primary skills, but the recent run edited them out, leaving 1 major and 1 minor.
- Skyrim:Classes#Pawnbroker has 2 primary skills, but the recent run edited them out, leaving 1 major and 1 non-skill.
To avoid such mistakes in the future, perhaps the skills parameter should use the EditorID, automatically generating the major and minor skills from transcluded templates?
--DayDreamer 15:22, 24 April 2012 (UTC)
- Those weren't mistakes, but actually corrections. The NPCs in question all have a fixed, low-level. At such low levels, their racial bonuses have a bigger effect on their skills than their class. The revised skills are based on the actual calculated stats at their fixed level, instead of blindly repeating the class skills even if they are irrelevant. Any added "non-skills" are skills whose racial bonus makes them larger than the class skills. Skills whose value was less than 25 have generally been dropped, because there's no reason to highlight them. See also Skyrim talk:Belyn Hlaalu. Therefore, auto-filling the skills parameter based upon the class is also not appropriate, because it would provide incorrect values for these NPCs. --NepheleTalk 05:13, 26 April 2012 (UTC)
Immortal BloodEdit
Immortal Blood is messed up (white background, no uesp graphics etc). Cheers, 213.112.133.174 21:39, 24 June 2012 (UTC)
