The Thumbnail ProphecyEdit
Hi! I was noticing with all those images you're posting that there doesn't seem to be any convenient way to access the full-size images. For example, when I pull up Oblivion:Bravil Recommendation, I see the thumbnail and if I hover over the icon in the lower right, the tooltip text says "enlarge". But if I click, all I get is the same thumbnail. Is there supposed to be a way to click somewhere and see the full-size pictures that you're uploading? Just curious.... --Nephele 21:39, 19 July 2006 (EDT)
- Yes, but not the way I would like. I originally tried to use the thumbnail feature but couldn't get it to work, I asked at the last IRC meeting about it and was told that the thumbnail feature was broken at the moment, Aristeo said she would talk to Daveh about it but he never showed up and I haven't asked about it since. Using the image/media in the same link I got it so you can click the "description" to see the full size but that's as good as I could do. So all the pics I uploaded need the caption under them clicked to go to the full size, honestly I didn't even try the thumb feature yesterday I just figured it hadn't been fixed yet due to all the other going on currently (priorities I guess). The pics were just sitting there so I went ahead with upload and figured I could go back when the thumb feature worked. I'll check it here shortly again but if you know for sure it's working or a different method to fix it so it works right I'd really appreciate it, I have a good lot more about ready to go up for the different Guilds and the Official Plugins, let me know what would be good for now and thanks for asking too, I've actually been meaning to contact a mod and ask again. --AlbinoMudcrab 21:57, 20 July 2006 (EDT)

- So another item on Daveh's very long todo list.... I'm pretty clueless on images, so I asked out of curiosity more than because I had any idea of how things are supposed to work. But my vote would be to keep uploading the pictures as you have been, and when it gets fixed they'll all be there ready to go. I like having the pictures added to the pages.--Nephele 22:25, 20 July 2006 (EDT)

- Thank you, I appreciate that, I think it adds a lot with just a little as well. I have only been doing the wiki for a few months now so I'm still finding out little things with displaying the images. But I'll go ahead and take some more, usually the darker pictures need post-processing to bring out the light in them, things like the moon barely show up with any light in the screenshots the game takes. I'll just continue to put them up like they are until I hear different, figure out some new wiki-code, or can ask about it in the next meeting. I don't know something but for now I agree that it's better than nothing. --AlbinoMudcrab 22:51, 20 July 2006 (EDT)

Prophecy RevealedEdit
I was just experimenting with one of your images at Oblivion:Bravil_Recommendation. The wiki was upgraded, so now it's not necessary to have a thumbnail version of images; the "thumb" tag creates one automatically. Thought you might like to know! --Nephele 20:07, 30 July 2006 (EDT)
- That is the most phenomenal thing I've ever heard!! Well, it's good anyway, that was a little dramatic I guess. Anyways, thanks for the info, I should have kept up with checking it but just figured it was a loss for awhile and took it as it was. Regardless, thanks again Nephele, hopefully I can get some more up asap and it'll be quicker. Actually, I have a question for you too; What do you think about the size of the images being 1024x768, which seemed usefully standard to me. The reason I ask is because they usually come in at about 200-250k average and I wasn't sure if this seems excessive or not. I can lower the size but I think it loses the effect it has, and I can also change the quality of the image keeping the size but obviously it'll be slightly "uglier". I mean couldn't these images be leeched on from other sites or linked to, costing bandwidth. The donation page pretty much says costs aren't a problem here but I want to get someone else's opinion and make the more courteous decision for the site here. --AlbinoMudcrab 20:53, 30 July 2006 (EDT)

- I somehow missed your response/question until now. Polling on IRC, there don't seem to be any definite rules on how big images should be. Legally, images should be "web-resolution" for fair use, but that isn't precisely defined. With the automatic thumbnail feature, dialup users only need to download to the thumb version, which is indeed a lower resolution version created automatically by the system. So I'd say it's your call on what resolution works best for you and looks best. And thanks for the admin vote, by the way! --Nephele 14:27, 11 August 2006 (EDT)

- Also, by the way, the quest header format has been changed, so you don't have to provide the full image tag. You can just do:
- |Image=Castle_Skingrad.jpg
- |ImgDesc=Castle Skingrad: A wealth obtainable only in multiple lifetimes.
- Providing the info using the new tags will probably allow more flexibility in the future, but both the old way and new way work at the moment. --Nephele 16:00, 11 August 2006 (EDT)

- No, don't worry about it, I haven't actually been on in a few so I wouldn't even have seen your response until today. Well, I started making the new uploads 800x600, but to be honest they only come in at maybe 50-70k smaller than the 1024's. So most likely I'll finish uploading the few I have left at 8x6 and go back to 1024x768 until someone hollers (is that even a word) at me. Besides, I figure 1024x768 can always be scaled down and reuploaded with more clarity than scaling up with a filter.
- No problem on the vote, we could only benefit if you were in such a position, I think anyone that spends time on here has to agree it's only logical, you monitor all sorts of stuff like vandalism that only admins can truly act on anyways, I think Aristeo is going back to school, and aren't you like #2 in contribs or something. Your crushing all the admins, it's kinda hilarious. So your welcome, how's it going anyways, do you just have to wait and see or what, seems like it's been a minute. Oh, not trying to turn this into a book but, thanks for the heads up on the new header, I noticed a few things are changed, exaspirating, but I'll start using/toying with it. I like it, seems more aesthetic, using the new tags does it do the thumb automatically? So we went from no thumbs to broken thumb tag to fixed and improved tag to great tag that doesn't even need tagged? Love it. --AlbinoMudcrab 16:45, 11 August 2006 (EDT)
Mentor ProgramEdit
Ask any and all questions pertaining to the Mentor Program here. I can help with editing the wiki, particular code for tables etc. that one might wonder about, image upload questions, photo editing questions, or whatever your gaming heart desires. I'm not on here as much as some of our Hermits but I promise to get back with you within a reasonable time (might even be 5 minutes).
Quest headersEdit
I noticed you've been cleaning up some of the fighter's guild quests. However, FYI, some of the [[Category]] tags you've been deleting do actually serve a purpose: they fix the alphabetical order used on the category pages (i.e., The Wandering Scholar gets listed under W rather than under T). I know it can be tricky to figure whether those category tags are needed are not (and some quests do have category tags that need to be deleted). But if the category tag includes the quest name as, for example, "Wandering Scholar, The" then it probably should be kept. --Nephele 03:42, 18 August 2006 (EDT)
- Ouch, didn't even think about it honestly, you got me right in the middle of The Master's Son luckily. Alright, I'll keep my eyes peeled for cat tags that are like that, let me go back through the ones I just did real quick and correct them if they need it. You know what, my bad Neph, I just noticed you were the one that just added those category tags for that very reason. My apologies, gimme a minute to fix them. By the way congrats on your Admin position. --AlbinoMudcrab 03:49, 18 August 2006 (EDT)

- Thanks for the congratulations. And yes, checking the page history could be another way to check whether I happen to think those tags need to be thereĀ :). By the way, on a quick check of image-related stuff I didn't have any luck figuring out what's going on with your thumbnails. And I think that's all I'm going to be able to get to tonight. --Nephele 03:55, 18 August 2006 (EDT)
- Real quick before you go, what about, for instance, The Unfortunate Shopkeeper? It doesn't have the Fighter's Guild Trail or the Category Templates, but it's done in the new format, do these tags still need/should be added? Thanks for looking at the thumb problem, I dunno really, maybe the next update will fix it againĀ :) Goodnight. --AlbinoMudcrab 04:01, 18 August 2006 (EDT)
