UESPWiki talk:Forum Rules

Rules, Rules, RulesEdit

Added these rules as guidelines to the forum. Like any rules, these are debateable and editable. These were also taken from ElderScrollsForum.com, with permission from me (admin/author). Have fun! --Aristeo 18:26, 13 June 2006 (EDT)

Desc RemovalEdit

I removed the description because it sounded a little too mean. We just want to give some simple guidelines, not break down the users of the fourm. --Aristeo 19:19, 5 July 2006 (EDT)

DavehEdit

he may be active on the wiki but sure isn't active on the forums...--Most Honored Listener 16:18, 28 July 2007 (EDT)

The fact that you are a helper-mod on the forums is proof that Daveh is indeed active on the forums, and is actively performing his duties as administrator there. The fact that the server is up and running day in and day out is also because Daveh is actively working to maintain the server. Not to mention paying the bills every day, without which the forums would be completely nonexistent. Just because the server upgrades only get documented on the wiki doesn't mean that the forums don't also benefit from every effort made to improve the server efficiency. His job on the forums is not to monitor every post that gets made every day, which is why he is identified as "Administrator" rather than "Moderator". Don't underestimate the importance of what he does as an administrator. --NepheleTalk 17:00, 28 July 2007 (EDT)
It is just that there are some things that need to be done at the forums which only Daveh can do and the last time Daveh came by was at least a couple months ago it would be great if he could come by the forums at least once in a while. I know how that him being the administrator benefits the forums as well but Administrator of the forums is allot different and as noted in the active status note, it was showing which members are active as forum staff not UESP staff.--Most Honored Listener 17:33, 28 July 2007 (EDT)
As I tried to point out, he has stopped by the forums and made changes, such as making you, Bear, and codex moderators in the forums. Since then he's been on a three week vacation, and he's still catching up from that. But I don't think going on vacation justifies having his name crossed out on the page. And crossing him off definitely isn't the best way to encourage him to want to help out in the forums. Like it or not, he is the one and only administrator of the forums. As long as the forums are functioning I don't think it is in any way appropriate to claim that the forums do not have an active administrator. --NepheleTalk 17:54, 28 July 2007 (EDT)
I was simply trying to make it easier for someone who needed to contact someone of the forums staff. This was showing who could currently help them I am not trying to make this something to say how these people are flakes. I am saying only that if you need to ask a question these are the people that can help you. I do have respect for Daveh and all that he has done but I hope you understand what this is meant to do.--Most Honored Listener 18:05, 28 July 2007 (EDT)
And your rationale is the exact same reason why Daveh's name belongs on that last as an active administrator. If someone needs to contact the forum's administrator, Daveh is the person who they should contact. Period. There is no one else who can help in any way with administrative tasks on the forum. Crossing his name off either leads people to think that absolutely nobody is available to deal with administrative problems or else it diverts the questions to one of the moderators, none of whom would be able to deal with the problem. If the forums were to go down tonight or be deluged by some new spambot, Daveh is the person who would need to be contacted. And despite your opinion about Daveh's lack of involvement with the forum, I am very sure that Daveh would work to fix the problem as quickly as he could.
Also, I think you need to remember occasionally that many of the other people involved here have a lot of other activities in their lives besides just the wiki and the forum. Just because someone doesn't put the rest of their life on hold at an instant's notice to fix a minor hiccup on the forums does not mean that they are ignoring or disinterested in the forums. It just means that some of us have a few more priorities to juggle than you do. So try to have a bit more patience and understanding when people can't fix a problem as quickly as you would like. Completely fixing some (if not all) of the problems you've been complaining about on the forums is probably going to require a complete replacement of the entire server. That's not something that gets done impulsively with a snap of the fingers; rather, it takes a lot of preparation, especially if you want it to happen smoothly. Your logic seems to basically be that because Daveh has not replaced the server (i.e., because he has not yet fixed the problems you've complained about -- although he has in fact fixed them for the short term) he therefore is not the forum's active administrator. I don't think too many people would agree with that logic. --NepheleTalk 23:03, 28 July 2007 (EDT)

Rules updatedEdit

I know I should have done this a long time ago, but now I have updated the rules to match the ones that are posted on the forums. We added and edited some a while back, and I have just forgot to update this page. Codex 19:36, 8 April 2008 (EDT)

On the forumsEdit

This page is grossly outdated and has been for eons. I have been working to try to update the staff, but I would prefer to create a forums page, simplistic in nature, to properly address questions about who does what and why and where over yonder. We are currently reviewing and updating the rules and I will make sure to update them here, but I'm not even sure how useful this is for wiki users, given the split between forums and wiki lately (and with the intention to merge us back together, feedback would be great). - Avron the S'wit (talk) 03:22, 28 November 2012 (GMT)

I've proposed it for deletion. —Legoless (talk) 17:12, 16 January 2013 (GMT)
