I have just removed the false claim that Dark Brotherhood assassin attacks prevent levelling. When a Dark Brotherhood attack occurs ("You are awakened by a loud noise."), the level-up screen (assuming you're ready to level-up) displays as you wake up (before you fight the assassin). It specifically is not the same behaviour as rest interruption by wild creatures ("Your rest has been interrupted.") or the dreams/Ash Zombie attacks during the Main Quest (dialog box), which won't let you level up.
