Daughter of Coldharbour

Is it being implied that she was raped as a child by Molag Bal since he is referenced as the king of rape? (174.96.39.109 08:41, 29 June 2012 (UTC))

Well she hasn't aged since then so she wasn't really a child. Also she said she gave herself to him and that it was an honor to be selected, so it doesn't sound like rape. — Kimi the Elf (talk | contribs) 10:21, 29 June 2012 (UTC)
I didn't play it, just watched some videos, but from what I remember Serana "did not have a choice as it was a great honor". As far as speculating goes, she might have been raped (by Molag Bal or her father, Harkon) - from what that dialogue implied, it was devious and Serana "did not want to want to lose this gift after everything she has done to get it". — Unsigned comment by 188.27.167.52 (talk) at 11:39 on 1 July 2012
She said the honor wasn't rejected litely. Although it may have been willingly it was likely reluctantly. - Hecatone
However, if she had become a vampire through her father, then should would not be a full-blooded vampire. And while it is never directly stated that she necessarily is either, her mother asks what she is doing with a half-blood (the player, if you become a vampire), so it can be assumed that she full as well. - Mulsivaas 21:19, 2 July 2012 (UTC)
At some point she mentions that the ceremony was 'degrading' so that's also what I assumed. Kretik 20:14, 20 July 2012 (UTC)
It is directly said that she's a pure blooded vampire. When fighting the Arch-Curate he said that he had the final part he needed for the tyranny of the sun, the blood of a pure-blooded vampire, a daughter of cold-harbour. — Unsigned comment by 76.122.136.202 (talk) at 23:35 on 20 July 2012

Both she and her mother are "Daughters of Coldharbor", and if I remember correctly, at one point she states it was a "family" affair for the ceremony, so she and her mother and father where all "involved" with Molag Bal in some type of ceremony/orgy it would seem.68.46.15.82 23:31, 3 August 2012 (UTC)

What's her maximum level?

I plan on keeping her as my perm follower, and I dont want her locked at a low level. Avoiding awesome crossbows for this... — Unsigned comment by 99.7.127.57 (talk) at 02:46 on 30 June 2012

i would imagine her max lvl is 50 since all followers from before Dawnguard stop lvling at 50Warrof 03:04, 30 June 2012 (UTC)
No need to wait it off grab your crossbows and use wabbajack fix to reset her on occasion. --Roksin 03:45, 1 July 2012 (UTC)
Serana's maximum level is 50 according to game-data, but Warrof's comment about all followers stopping leveling at 50 is wrong. Specifically, J'zargo and the DB Initiates do not stop at 50 (J'zargo has no level cap, the initiates cap at 100). Also, three Dawnguard followers have no level cap: Durak, Celann, and Ingjard. ABCface 08:01, 2 July 2012 (UTC)

Her age

at one point you can ask how old she is, and apparently she was sealed away before the founding of the empire ( as she has no clue what it is), thus making her at least 4208 years old. ( empire founded E1 243 current events , E4 201 ) --67.160.159.54 09:45, 30 June 2012 (UTC)

Well she was certainly around either in the late first era or early second era. I am actually surprised she is not insane, vampire who have not fed in ages go feral and insane. Mr.Scryer. 12:39, 30 June 2012 (UTC)
But she was in a type of hibernation, and when you bring her out of it, the prison stabs your hand and takes some of your blood, presumably to feed her. — Unsigned comment by Silentsentinel (talkcontribs) at 04:06 on 1 July 2012
I thought of the same thing, the purpose of that ritual was to "feed her". However, she is not a regular vampire; as far as I understand, Daughters of Coldharbour are made vampires by Molag Bal, either directly or through a ritual, they weren't given the gift of vampirism like Harkon and/or Serana herself does to the Dragonborn. — Unsigned comment by 188.27.167.52 (talk) at 11:42 on 1 July 2012
Exactly, and this makes them full-blooded vampires (not halfies, like the player can become in-game). This likely affects her ability to stave off hunger/ferality. — Unsigned comment by Mulsivaas (talkcontribs) at 14:31 on July 2, 2012

Upon approaching Mzulft for the College of Winterhold quest 'Revealing the Unseen', Serana made the comment, "Is this a dwarven city? I'm surprised that they'd let it get this way." To me, this indicates that she was alive at a time when the Dwemer were still around. The Dwemer disappeared in 1E700, which is 3751 years before the events of Skyrim. Swk3000 21:15, 8 July 2012 (UTC)

Also, I think the dragon bone in Valerica's laboratory is implied to have been from the Merethic Era, considering no one else has been in her laboratory since she went into hiding, which was well before the dragons returned. This would mean that Serana was alive during the Merethic Era, as she was turned as a pure-blooded vampire, not made into a vampire through birth. Charlie1121 01:16, 29 July 2012 (UTC)

Interesting note about her apparel

I noticed as she was following me around that she wears a hood when outdoors but is bare-headed when indoors. I don't know if the hood is part of her clothing, or a separate item she puts on and takes off as needed. I can figure out why she does it, because she seems to wear it night and day when outside, and not wear it night and day when inside. Though it was storming the whole time we were running around outside, so maybe it keeps the rain/snow off? Obax 21:41, 1 July 2012 (UTC)

I noticed that as well, i think it's just because she is a vampire whe puts up her hood to keep the sunlight off of her skin, as to if it is part of her clothing or ot i don;t know. Warrof 02:52, 2 July 2012 (UTC)
Its not part of her clothes (you can look when she has the hood on the clothes one is still there) its the same type of hood Delphine and some thieves wear. --SPMcKinney 04:42, 5 July 2012 (UTC)
Her default outfit is the Vampire Royal Armor (the Red variant) and Vampire Boots. She also has this hood included as part of the DLC1SeranaOutfitHooded in CSList (along with the same armor/boots as her default outfit), though I'm unsure of the circumstances under which she's scripted to change outfits (the time of day and whether she's in an exterior or interior location would be my guess, but I can't tell). There's also this entry in CSList if anyone more knowledgeable with game data wants to fish around for more information. ABCface 17:18, 5 July 2012 (UTC)
She wears the default inside and the hooded outside, can't be any help with the second hood haven't modded in a long time (since Morrowind :S ). --SPMcKinney 05:30, 8 July 2012 (UTC)

Can you marry her or not?

The note about the option to ask her to marry the player is extremely vague, can someone who knows please clarify? Warrof 02:59, 2 July 2012 (UTC)

No, you cannot marry her. You can ask her to de-vamp and be your follower (and, I believe, stay a vampire and still be your follower), but she hates churches. So no wedding. Sorry :( - Mulsivaas 14:27, 2 July 2012 (UTC)
What exactly is vague about the phrase "she will refuse to marry the player"? Sparrows413 19:39, 2 July 2012 (UTC)
The way the information on the page is worded, it may have been implied that she could later be brought to change her mind. --75.16.134.122 08:31, 3 July 2012 (UTC)
Where does she go if you ask her to devamp? She says shell 'meet you at home in a few days' but I cannot find her -B — Unsigned comment by 67.85.210.35 (talk) at 03:57 on July 5, 2012
She goes to Morthal to "devamp", I haven't done it so don't know if she will only do it if your Dawnguard or Vampire Lord but she means your faction HQ (I hope you understand what I mean) --SPMcKinney 04:37, 5 July 2012 (UTC)
She takes a few days to get back to your faction HQ, she took umm...3-4 days for me I believe (was running around doing a few quests but I think that is about right) --SPMcKinney 05:13, 8 July 2012 (UTC)

Actions in her environment

While you stay in an area for a few minutes or longer she will begin interacting with the environment like other NPC's(but not followers) do, using grindstones smithies, etc.. She even copies the grey beards praying routine. Maybe I was just blind and never saw other followers do this but I think she's the only one.?. AzureKing 22:35, 2 July 2012 (UTC)

I noticed that as well, while talking to a quest giver a few seconds pass and she'd go do something. O and you aren't blind the other followers never did this --SPMcKinney 22:52, 2 July 2012 (UTC)
I noticed this as well, and haven't noticed other followers doing this before. A note was added to the page recently, so it's updated to mention this at least. I'm not sure if other followers have now been changed so they do this too, though, since I've only used her since starting Dawnguard. ABCface 23:17, 3 July 2012 (UTC)
I've been going around with mjoll, faendal, DB initiate, and durak (individually of course) and none of them act that way. I'd say it's very likely unique to her AzureKing 19:54, 4 July 2012 (UTC)
Yeah, this seems to be the case. I'm not sure if this is worth mentioning on the page, but I noticed her reanimated corpses doing the same types of things-- one using a forge and a tanning rack. ABCface 15:49, 12 July 2012 (UTC)

Her Hairstyle, different?

Is it just me or is her hairstyle different, unique to her. I took a look at the Nord profile and none seem to where her partially braided, mostly down hairstyle. — Unsigned comment by 50.135.172.120 (talk) at 20:40 on 3 July 2012

Its not just you (I checked out the defaults hairstyles too to make sure) she does have a unique hairstyle --SPMcKinney 04:02, 4 July 2012 (UTC)
This seems to be right from looking at some unique files in CSlist. I can't really explain much on this, but here's some links of body parts unique to her:
I'm assuming that these features override the normal Nord head features for her so that she does indeed have a unique hairstyle, but it's just a guess on my part. Someone more knowledgeable with game data could shed some more light on this. ABCface 17:26, 5 July 2012 (UTC)
You got it for the most part, its not really overriding the Nord features its an entirely separate texture. Its like what they did with the Snow Elves they used an Altmer base and retextured them with the bluish skin but with Serana they just did the head section. --SPMcKinney 05:10, 8 July 2012 (UTC)

Darkfall Cave issue

As is listed in the Bugs section of the main article, Serana sometimes says, when dismissed, that she will go to Darkfall Cave. I believe I've tracked down the issue; when I continued the Companions questline and Vilkas was forced as a follower for me (Purity of Revenge was the quest), the game informed me that "Your current follower has been replaced by a Companion" or somesuch. When it did, Serana DID NOT stop following me - however, ever since, when I dismiss her, she claims she'll go to "Darkfall Cave" AND, after dismissal, she will not rejoin you. I tried talking to her after dismissal, talking to her after she arrives at Fort Dawnguard(where she actually goes), and it doesn't work. I'm planning on trying to get Vilkas to follow me and see if that fixes the issue - hopefully this will help. In summary, it seems that when another follower is forced to follow you via quest, the Darkfall bug seems to occur upon next time you dismiss Serana - my theory, anyway. Also my untested theory - signing up the follower that "replaced" Serana may fix the issue. Will report back afterwards. 68.205.17.186 18:31, 5 July 2012 (UTC)

Unfortunately, signing Vilkas as follower, then dismissing+and re-assigning her didn't work - neither did dismissing Vilkas and trying to re-assign Serana.. Hopefully this can still help track down the problem, though. 68.205.17.186 18:36, 5 July 2012 (UTC)

Spells when human?

What spells does she preserve after becoming human again? The drain health spell and Resurrection spell I would assume are from her being a vampire but the way the article phrases it it sounds more like she has generic spells with those effects rather than the vampire powers. It may be a nice tidbit to add under where it says she can become human AzureKing 02:55, 6 July 2012 (UTC)

She still has the ressurection spell and destruction magic, I don't think she changes that much when you cure her, as she still complains about the sun. — Unsigned comment by 69.169.188.172 (talk) at 20:16 on 7 July 2012

Where does she go when no longer following you?

So because I was no where near in the main quest on getting the Dragon Scroll, I decided to leave Serana in my Whiterun home. But after checking up on her a few times I kind of forgot about her and she's no longer at that house. I don't know where she is now. I sided with the Dawnguard and she's not upstairs in the blood room. Anyone know where she would go?--50.135.172.120 14:28, 9 July 2012 (UTC)

For me, she returned to Fort Dawnguard in the main circular room when you first enter the main door. She was sitting against the wall. ABCface 15:03, 9 July 2012 (UTC)
She returned to the same place in Fort Dawnguard for me, too. Southeast wall--as you enter the Fort, she will be on your right. And she is no longer giving me the option to have her as a follower! Has anyone else run into this? Oshaugm 20:32, 9 July 2012 (UTC)
i am a vamp in dawngaurd if you ask her to depart then she is gone but if you take her to the castle and ask if she wana part she says: i am staying here. — Unsigned comment by Svenxx (talkcontribs) at 13:29 on 23 July 2012

Curing Serana's Vampirism

Anyone else had trouble with this? I was able to get her to talk about it once right after we killed her father. It still shows up in the conversation options but she refuses to discuss it and ends the conversation every time. Anyone know how this works? 4meridia7 16:03, 9 July 2012 (UTC)

looks like a found the answer to my own question. I'll post in on the page. Hopefully it will help someone else from having to go back and do the whole questline again :) 4meridia7 21:05, 12 July 2012 (UTC)
From my experience, it seems that you have to pick the "nice" conversation options in order to convince her to cure Vampirism - do NOT bring up curing Vampirism before the questline is completed, as well, and don't sound selfish. Basically, be a nice guy. XD Derejin 02:19, 15 July 2012 (UTC)
Being nice does seem to increase her disposition toward you but as I understand right now the only deal breaker is to ask her to seek a cure before Harkon is dead. I was really nice the first time I played through the quest but made the singular mistake of asking her about a cure before the main quest was complete and she still refused afterward. Not sure how to verify it although I have tested it both ways. I'm sure more will be discovered after the PC version is released. 4meridia7 21:00, 16 July 2012 (UTC)
