Name?
Has anyone discovered the story behind his name? — Unsigned comment by Lauriy (talk • contribs) at 12:26 on 23 November 2011
- Not yet, too many side quests in Skyrim *sigh*. However, Rune mentioned he was discovered in a wreckage of a ship near Solitude.222.154.175.202 14:09, 28 November 2011 (UTC)
- There seems to be only 3 shipwrecks near Solitude, and we cause one of them. Went to the other two but couldn't successfully locate anything about Rune. It makes me think we are supposed to find the fisherman first. You would think, however, that Rune would have given us this mans name, seeing as he lived with him and was raised by him, we could ask where abouts he found Rune -_- — Unsigned comment by 75.71.114.55 (talk) at 05:20 on 2 December 2011
Lore found
There is a book about the family in the Wreck of The Pride of Tel Vos. Look for a waterlogged chest. You can't give it to him though..---- — Unsigned comment by 86.81.202.206 (talk) at 00:05 on 29 November 2011
- There really seems like there should be a quest for this guy, especially given the contents of the journal aboard the Pride of Tel Vos (although that is nowhere near "west of solitude"- I don't remember whether the journal mentions a second ship). It may be a bug, and the quest just doesn't activate. — Unsigned comment by 67.170.96.83 (talk) at 02:20 on 29 November 2011
- That's part of a sidequest concerning Brand-Shei of Riften. — Unsigned comment by Lauriy (talk • contribs) at 11:32 on 29 November 2011
- Sorry to burst your bubble, but that was not related to him at all. It is the dark elf who you plant Modesi's ring in his pocket. If you talk to the dark elf (Brand-Shei) first he asks you to find out hints of his pasts. Thats were that book comes in. -Pat — Unsigned comment by 114.74.173.135 (talk) at 02:36 on 17 November 2012

rune
Why do I always end up on this page when I'm looking for the magic style runes?--Ji e toy 23:34, 29 November 2011 (UTC)
- Because you never specify the type of rune you want. Try Skyrim:Lightning Rune, Skyrim:Frost Rune, and Skyrim:Fire Rune. Those are the real pages you want to see. 72.161.219.157 20:08, 24 July 2012 (UTC)
Orphan's Tear
I found a wrecked ship west of Solitude called Orphan's Tear and I thought from the name it would probably have something to do with this, but I didn't find anything useful on the ship. Maybe someone else will have better luck or maybe there's another nearby shipwreck, but if you want to look for yourself it's just northwest of Fort Hraggstad along the shoreline. — Unsigned comment by 108.28.37.119 (talk) at 07:41 on 30 November 2011
- - I took a run up there and looked around pretty thoroughly, and, while it seems the most promising target, I could also find nothing after a close and wide sweep of the area.Llwynn 19:58, 5 December 2011 (UTC)
Possible Expansion?
Rune mentions strange runes of which could have been from another province; there were signs of sheogorath in oblivion before the expansion pack; same with knights of the nine. This could possibly be a hint towards a future DLC putting you through tests and other dungeons and possibly a new explorable area with new creatures to discover this mans past.— Unsigned comment by 108.66.108.111 (talk) at 22:23 on 20 December 2011(UTC)
- I'm not sure but i think you're on to something, maybe this DLC will have you travle over seas to were the nords(possibly) originated from but it could also just be a glitched unmarked quest, though i've heard some people talk about finding some thing about the runes that involved the insect jars and some kinda rumored talos summoning.— Unsigned comment by 46.9.33.120 (talk) at 22:28 on 7 January 2012(UTC)
possible theory
I might be over thinking things, but I think Rune might be a decedent of a Gray Fox. Being that he is in the thieves guild, found with some kind of rune (copy of one of the runes on the gray cowl?), bad luck (luck being associated with Nocturnal), and his parents "erasing themselves from history." Maybe Bethesda is bringing back the gray cowl in future DLC? 67.142.164.21 04:32, 9 January 2012 (UTC)
- Its a good theory, but the runes on the Gray Cowl are written in Daedric and I'm sure someone in Skyrim could read Daedric.— Unsigned comment by 12.23.230.139 (talk) on 23 Jan 2012
- It actually might be a bit unlikely that someone in Skyrim could, or would admit to being able to read Daedric, considering how badly mages are treated. Remember the Daedric artifact in the Midden? Nobody could bother to solve that. Even if he went to Winterhold, he'd probably be stopped at the gate before he could ask anyone. And erased from history could also be like the Psijic order: They left with their island a century ago and don't like to appear much, so they would be too low on the radar to be asked about it. — Unsigned comment by 24.151.97.141 (talk) on 8 April 2012

Hint
There is another person looking for his parents too, the persons name is "Athel Newberry" I found a note after walking into the guild through the secret entrence the name of the note is "No Word Yet" I don't know if that is helpful to anyone I thought I would put it on here just in case. — Unsigned comment by 98.250.29.58 (talk) on January 10, 2012 15:37
- {anonymous} I have made a recent discovery behind Runes Story. If you start the quest for joining the Stormcloaks to kill a Ice Wrath, along the way you might notice a wreck ship taken over by bandits. If you clear out the bandits you might find a chest in the ship.
- When you open it, there is only a journal from {possibly} Runes dad and in side it says while the ship was taken over he was wrapping Rune and set him in a basket to set of to sea. To help prove my discovery Runes mentions that he was found by a fisherman at sea.
- I have no other information for now but if you found any tell someone and you may skyrims not-so-big hero. {NOTE THIS MAY NOT BE TRUE BECAUSE IT WAS FOUND NEAR WINTERHOLD} — Unsigned comment by 166.249.197.192 (talk) at 01:23 on 5 February 2012

Possible link
As yet no dialogue or quest record found but the only other 'Rune' link I have found are the five mysterious bug jars, hidden across Skyrim. Bee, Butterfly, Lunar Moth, Torchbug, and Dragonfly. Each has a rune on the underside of the lid. In the Thieves Guild there is a character named rune. Speak to him about his name and he will tell a story that is almost a word for word quote from the movie Spaceballs. From the scene when Loan Star tells princess Vespa about his childhood.
This is from the comments section on GameFront Skyrim:Easter Eggs
I have no idea if it's right. I've never actually watched the movie. Just thought I would put it in case someone wanted to check it out.— Unsigned comment by AsBoredAsAllHell (talk • contribs) at 23:48 on 15 March 2012(UTC)
- I have not seen it either, however I don’t think we include Easter Eggs on the specific pages anyway. — Kimi the Elf (talk | contribs) 00:12, 16 March 2012 (UTC)
- I went and took a look a the movie's script and it could only be loosely related to Rune's story...that's why I tried to get rid of this, but you wouldn't let me.— Unsigned comment by AsBoredAsAllHell (talk • contribs) at 00:50 on 16 March 2012(UTC)
- Checked out the script and it looks like a tenuous reference at the best. It certainly doesn't qualify as an easter egg. --SerCenKing Talk 21:34, 23 March 2012 (UTC)

hopeful that its an intro to expansion
Seeing that Beth doesnt want small add-on and said they will have big, new areas to discover as DLC, Rune seems perfect as an entry point. 1) he isnt likely to die because hes almost always at the guild and most players probably wont kill him since hes a fellow member, so it becomes unlikely that ppl can screw themselves out of DLC content before it even comes out. 2) since he was found on a ship, its safe to assume he came from somewhere else and the dragonborn must therefor go to that other place. This gives us a lot of fun possibilities like Atmore(where the nords came from i think)!!! that would be epic. 3) Since he mentions the stone with the runes but doesnt give it or even show it to us, it feels more like an intentional possible continuation point rather than something that was cut out; it keeps us looking for something that isnt there yet and voila when DLC comes we get excited whereas they could have cut the story at the point where he said he was named after the stone and isnt really interested in finding his past if they only wanted to cut the content.

Sorry to Disappoint All
But it may not be DLC, and the theory that the bug collection and rune stones are some how related is just bad info just think about it for a second Elder Scrolls can be out there but that's just ...odd, Plus not everything is a quest, Rune's story sounds like a mysterious quest but its only just supposed to give you a sense of background for the character, like for example in Whiterun there's a pub called Drunken Huntsmen or in Solstheim the Retching Netch if you haven't been go there and talk to the owners about they're oddly named shops and no more nonsense about bloody bugs in jars and runes stones lmfao — Unsigned comment by RagingOzo (talk • contribs) at 21:37 on 29 December 2012

This is getting sketchy
I came across this page a few days ago and I found something today that kind of creeped me out. After I spoke with Rune in the cistern I got a quest called Rune's origin, unfortunately I have no evidence to support my claim. Another thing, the only thing I could read before Xbox mysteriously restarted was the quest title, the rest seemed to be binary code. Possible glitched quest? — Unsigned comment by 74.243.143.192 (talk) at 23:23 on 23 April 2013
- A fairly extensive search brings up nothing. There is a note that explains his origins, but there are no unfinished quests related to, or called, Rune's Origin. There is no scripting that I can see to even suggest there was even an attempt by Bethesda to implement such a quest, so where the name came from is a mystery. Even the crashing/self-restarting on the xbox can't explain this, as it would need to have taken the name from somewhere, it can't have just made up a name from nowhere. Silence is GoldenBreak the Silence 00:04, 24 April 2013 (GMT)

- finding Runes name was supposed to be a quest but bathesda never had the time or forgot about it so it was unfinnished i can back it up if you look on the elderscrollswiki they say that there was suposed to be a quest attached. thats why its so mysterious — Unsigned comment by 178.118.255.220 (talk) at 23:21 on 9 May 2013

-
- There is no unfinished quest. If there was ever any intention of adding one it simply wasn't even started. There is simply nothing named Rune's Origin in the game, and after 18 months you can be fairly certain that it would be mentioned somewhere on the internet if there was. Not everything on that site is correct, plus the note doesn't mention the name of the quest you got, there is nothing at Orphan's Tear to support the claim that it was the intended location of said quest and there is no log/book hidden in the game that holds any further information about Rune. The quest you got just before your Xbox crashed seems merely to be the game data spouting some random stuff out. Silence is GoldenBreak the Silence 23:47, 9 May 2013 (GMT)

Pilgrim's Trench
Has anyone fully searched that area? It's west of Winterhold next to Ysgramor's Tomb. I found that place awhile ago and haven't checked it out yet, and yes I realize it's pretty far from Solitude but might as well check it anyway, you never know. I would search it myself but I don't have any water breathing equipment. 166.147.121.155 15:52, 17 June 2013 (GMT) Anemone
- For what exactly? The actual data of the game has been thoroughly searched for this "quest". There are no items, no quest scripts. Please read the posts above and see that there is nothing to find, no matter where you look. Silence is GoldenBreak the Silence 17:46, 17 June 2013 (GMT)

- Anemone may not know what we do. What we do, is we use the Creation Kit and similar utilities to look through the actual game files directly. Theres nothing. It would've been impossible for us to miss it when we look at this level. It doesnt even look like a quest-that-should-have-been, like with the apprentices from the college. Just... nothing. And yeah its weird.74.134.246.219 02:53, 2 July 2013 (GMT)
