Skyrim talk:Animal Hides

Elk Hide vs. Deer HideEdit

Ok, let's settle this on the talk page. In my experience, no animal drops an item called "Elk Hide". Elk and Deer both drop "Deer Hide", the only difference between them being their appearance and RefID. Both can be tanned into leather, then used for other purposes. I am not aware of any other uses for Deer Hide other than converting them into leather, nor have I seen any difference in the usage of the two varities of Deer Hide. --XyzzyTalk 00:32, 18 July 2012 (UTC)

Yeah, I wasn't sure what was true in terms of tanning the hides, but I know for sure I've never seen anything named "Elk Hide" in the game, and I can't find anything in CSList with that name either. I figured I'd at least fix the name when I saw it, and let someone else verify whether it can be tanned or not. I'm wondering if maybe the user who added it originally was just thinking of the Deer Pelts, which actually can't be tanned. ABCface 01:00, 18 July 2012 (UTC)
There are no elk hides in the game and deer hides cannot be used in any recipes except for turning them to leather. The deer hides differ, I believe, only in appearance or weight, which I have not checked. Vely►t►e 01:43, 18 July 2012 (UTC)

do the different hides produce different patterns in hide armor?Edit

i was told by my bro that hide armors will look different depending on their sources. i havn't seen any differences, but maybe i'm wrong. — Unsigned comment by 66.223.225.20 (talk) at 22:46 on 9 September 2012‎

No. I do not think there is any difference.--Skyrimplayer (talk) 19:28, 9 September 2012 (EDT)
No, there is only one unenchanted version hide armor in game-data, which takes leather and leather strips to make. It doesn't make any difference which animal hide you use to make the leather or leather strips; it will have the same appearance regardless. The only difference with the enchanted versions are the enchantments themselves. — ABCface 19:56, 9 September 2012 (EDT)

Other werewolf pelts (DG)Edit

It says there is only one werewolf pelt found in the vampire castle in Dawnguard, and I thought so too until the other day I found one on a slayed wild werewolf after an encounter. Might be very rare? the first might be the only placed one? But there are more then one out there. --Winch1990 (talk) 07:33, 21 February 2013 (GMT)

They may have wolf pelts, but not werewolf pelts. Do you recall the exact name of the werewolf you killed? I believe they all share the same loot table, which would be a wolf pelt, some small treasure, and human flesh. Vely►t►e 20:56, 21 February 2013 (GMT)

(Black) Bear and Brown Bear Pelt Texture GlitchEdit

It seems as though the textures have been mistakenly switched between the (black) bear pelts and the brown bear pelts (as of patch 1.9). The black bear pelts are now brown-colored and the brown bear pelts are now black-colored. It should be the other way around. --Blackpete (talk) 10:07, 24 April 2013 (GMT)

Guard CommentEdit

So I was wearing studded armor and he said "you wear the armor of a brigand. I'll be keeping an eye on you." I've been playing skyrim for years and I never eard that before. Telrav (talk) 06:42, 30 December 2014 (GMT)

It's standard guard dialogue in reaction to the armor, likely referencing the fact that bandits are usually seen with this type or armor. It is listed here. Forfeit (talk) 07:59, 30 December 2014 (GMT)
No i know that, I was just suprised with the amount of time I've put in the game I've never heard that reaction before. And thanks for the link to that list. Telrav (talk) 01:56, 31 December 2014 (GMT)

Ice Wolf Pelt LocationEdit

"2 found 520 ft west-northwest of Reach Imperial Camp"

"2 on the hill in an unmarked Forsworn camp near Bthardamz(map)"

Aren't these both pointing to the same location? 107.135.158.149 20:42, 13 September 2016 (UTC)

Yes, the map link for the Forsworn points to the spot west of the Imperial camp. The listing on the unmarked places page confirms this as the link intended, so it's gone. Silence is GoldenBreak the Silence 21:26, 13 September 2016 (UTC)
