The Journal of Cato Albus

I am no stranger to loss. I THOUGHT the pains of grief would fade. They FADED with the passing of my parents. The pain FADED with the passing of my siblings and their children. BUT THE PAIN OF LOSING CAECILIUS remains. It TEARS at me. It CLAWS at me. What I was before, who I was, is undone in the pit caused by my son's passing.

For weeks I could not eat. I slept little and talked even less. Time passed too quickly and too slowly and all I am was LOST. But I have found myself now. I found myself in RAGE. Anger is my master and revenge is my compass. I will never be lost AGAIN.

Those soldiers we executed didn't need to die. They didn't DESERVE to die. But neither did my Caecilius.

Their families would not join our cause without experiencing the pain, the GRIEF, that I have. Others tout their willingness to end the alliances and to put a stop to the Three Banners War, but it's never enough. It is only when all of our children are dead that we will stand united.

Is it deceitful to kill the children of the very nobles I seek to recruit? Yes. But this war must end. I do this in Caecilius's name. I do this in Caecilius's honor. I do this FOR Caecilius.

My poor son. He only wanted to end the war. He was GOING to end it.

Well, I only need a few more supporters. As soon as the other nobles RALLY TO MY CAUSE I will do what Caecilius wanted. I will carry on his WORK. I will see this war FINISHED. It will END and I do not care how many soldiers we need to bury to make that happen.

I tried peace. My family FOUGHT for peace. But now we will create it in blood. Anyone who opposes us will die. The speed of their death does not matter so much as the finality of it. And once all the soldiers are dead across the alliances, then we will know the world that Caecilius dreamed of. It will FINALLY be over.
