Before the quest:

After rescuing Saryvn you'll find him and the sergeant back at the fortress camp:
- "Saryvn here has told me an interesting tale. Is he telling the truth? He says you were involved."
If you agreed to back Saryvn up with his story:
- Yes, Sergeant. He engaged the Maulborn without regard for his own safety.
- "Hmph. Normally I wouldn't be quick to believe such a tale, but the book Saryvn brought back seems to support it.
Take this for your efforts. Leave Saryvn to me."
If you chose to tell the truth:
- Saryvn was captured when he wandered away from the fort. He didn't find the book. I did.
- "That's more in line with the Sarvyn I know than the tale he told me.
You did well by telling me the truth. I'll deal with Saryvn."
Afterwards he'll say:
- "Thank you for your service."
