Serge Arcole will seek you out to help rescue his wife from thugs from the Midnight Union. His plan involves using his alchemy skills to put the guards out of commission. While searching for Miranda in the Counting House, you will instead find Elbert on the top floor. Speaking with him, you will quickly learn the truth of matters.
- "I'm Lady Miranda's steward.
Who are you, and what do you want here?" - Serge Arcole sent me to find out where the Midnight Union is holding Miranda.
- "But Lady Miranda's not a captive of the Midnight Union. They're her bodyguards.
She hired them to protect her from Lord Serge, her husband. He threatened to kill her if she didn't give him her family treasure." - Then why did Arcole send me here? To get me out of the way?
- "Probably. But she's still protected by the Midnight Union."
- But Arcole made a sleeping potion out of puffball caps. I put it in the guards' drinking kegs.
- "Puffball caps? Oh, you fool—that's not a sleep potion, it's poison!
Now no one's guarding Miranda. Lord Serge will probably poison her, too. You'll need an antidote...and so will I, since I drank from the kegs. This vervain should do it.... - Vervain is the antidote? Where can I get some for Miranda?
- "I order the lord's alchemy supplies for him. A crate of dried vervain was just unloaded on the east beach.

If you choose to find the antidote on the beach, he will say:
- "Collect the antidote to that poison before it's too late!
