Oblivion talk:Frost Damage

Damage Fades AwayEdit

I've noticed recently that if a frost spell travels for a long enough distance, the damage starts to decrease. The longer the spell travels, the less damage it does upon impact. When you first shoot the spell, it's fairly solid in appearance, but if you follow the spell, it starts to fade away. This works with both area of effect spells and single frost bolts. At first I thought this just to be a visual effect, but I've tested this many times, and I'm sure that the damage is related to distance traveled. I figured this should be added to the frost damage article, but I'm not sure if it's important enough, honestly, because I mean, how often would this even come into play, unless you're trying to assassinate someone from a distance with a ball of ice. --ZombieRoboNinja 14:49, 31 December 2008 (EST)

I can corroborate, since I recall an incident near Vilverin where my Hailstone spell easily killed any Mudcrab in close range, but a particulary long-distance shot I made there reduced one Mudcrab's health to but a sliver. The wide swath of an area-of-effect Frost spell makes long-distance targetting somewhat attractive: you're encouraged to aim above the horizon for maximum coverage rather than splashing the shot at an enemy's feet. Reduction of Frost damage over distance becomes noteworthy then.—Dark Spark 00:39, 29 January 2009 (EST)

Tested custom spells with frost as prime effect(most expensive), fire, shock and weaknesses as secondary and all with 10 ft area of effect. I am not sure if it faded but the entire projectile (10 ft, easy to follow with high athletics/speed) vanished after a while, maybe 100 or 200 ft at most. Other projectiles of course still do continue on MUCH further but in a dungeon a 10 ft cloud is the way to go, no missing. Does area of effect make it vanish faster? 206.53.58.90 03:24, 1 March 2010 (UTC)

Slow?Edit

Do frost spells slow the enemy? — Unsigned comment by 98.218.90.101 (talk) at 00:14 on 21 June 2010

Not on their own, no. Robin Hoodtalk 01:48, 21 June 2010 (UTC)

aoe damage?Edit

so frost spells with area effects don't disappear when it hits an enemy, but keeps going instead?

if the center of the frost ball hits the enemy then the spell stops travelling and disappears after a few seconds.
