WalkthroughEdit

Out in the desert, hidden in a canyon, is a small village. If you stumble across it, you'll get a quest entry - the people living here look troubled. If you talk to the elder, he'll tell you that he sent his daughter to the Count's castle to pay the taxes, but she never came back. The castle is nearby, through a passage in the rock.

The castle is trashed and obviously hasn't seen inhabitants for a long time. The door on the upper level of the great hall leads down to the dining hall and dungeons, where you'll find some clues - the girl's body and the Countess' Journal. Keep going deeper and you'll eventually find the countess' ghost, and then the countess herself - she's been turned into a spider daedra to keep her husband, Count Friedhelm, from escaping. Speaking of the count.... he's on the next level down. Kill him, then you can return to the village and tell the elders what happened.

At this point, the elders will reveal that they're all ghosts - they died long ago, but were unable to move on because of the count's curse. Now that you've eliminated him, they can go away. The castle will vanish, along with the fog in the village, and the place will become truly abandoned.

Journal EntriesEdit

Help For a Village (odddienerquesta)
Stage Finishes Quest Journal Entry
15 I have found a village in the desert. Some people even live here. However, they look worried. I should ask if I can help them.
20 The village elder asked me to go to the nearby castle to search for his daughter and leave the taxes due. He himself cannot enter the castle, because the guards will not let him in.
25 Something is not right here. If the village church elder hadn't said something about guards.... There are just two old skeletons here at the castle entrance. I wonder what is inside the castle waiting for me.
30 In a cell, I found the diary of Aurilie Surelia. Apparently the Count required her for some ritual. I'm afraid I can't bring her back alive.
35 I have found a kind of chapel... a gruesome ritual took place here. Everything is full of traces of old blood and body parts. Aurilie is also probably dead here.
40 The countess' diary revealed to me a part of what has happened here. Apparently her husband found an old Daedric shrine in the castle vaults. Something there changed him. The diary ended abruptly, unfortunately; I'll probably have to look in the tombs for more answers.
45 I have found a tunnel dug in the castle crypt. It leads to an ancient tomb or shrine. I should take a look.
50 I have found the Countess... or what has become of her. Some evil magic has turned her into a spider creature. She said that she is watching over a man, who isn't visible. Perhaps the long staircase leads to him.
55 I have found the count. He was completely crazy. He tried to kill me. I had to defeat him in battle. I should report back to the village elders what I have experienced here.
60 The village elder met me at the exit of the castle. He was a spirit, thankful that the curse on his village was broken by the count's death. The village is only an old abandoned settlement. The elder gave me a gift of thanks. A sacrificial dagger. Seems to be very old. Probably once belonged to a priest of Mephala.
70 Finishes quest  Was it just a dream? I should take much less skooma. The experiences in the House of Dreams are always abstruse. And how did I get here?
Notes
  • Not all Journal Entries may appear in your journal; which entries appear and which entries do not depends on the manner in which the quest is done.
  • Stages are not always in order of progress. This is usually the case with quests that have multiple possible outcomes or quests where certain tasks may be done in random order.
  • If an entry is marked as "Finishes Quest" it means the quest disappears from the Active Quest list, but you may still receive new entries for that quest.
  •   It is possible to use the console to advance through the quest by entering setstage odddienerquesta stage, where stage is the number of the stage you wish to complete. It is not possible to un-complete (i.e. go back) quest stages. See SetStage for more information.
