Why doesnt the book list contain FormID's like other items? --62.163.51.178 08:49, 2 June 2007 (EDT)

This is a Tamriel page, and thus lists the books for ALL the games, not just Oblivion. Some books appear in multiple games, and the FormIDs are only in Oblivion. See Oblivion:Books for a page with all the IDs. --TheRealLurlock Talk 08:57, 2 June 2007 (EDT)

Can text from the books in game not be taken directly due to copywrite issues, or are some of these books just horribly copied over to this site? Rip-Saw 04:36, 31 July 2007 (EDT)

I'm not sure what you mean... as far as I'm aware the text for the books has been taken over word for word. It can't be copied anywhere, but the "Fair Use" provision of most copyright laws means it's legal to use it on a reference site like this. Can you give some examples of books copied "horribly"? --RpehTalk 05:23, 31 July 2007 (EDT)
See UESPWiki:Community Portal/Copyright Issues for a discussion of copyright/fair use issues with regard to the text of game books. --NepheleTalk 12:50, 31 July 2007 (EDT)
Specifically, The Armorer's Challenge was missing entire paragraphs in a rather significant manner, as well as having parts that seemed to be paraphrased. I've seen other books with relatively minor errors that I had attributed to my own memory failing me. I fixed The Armorer's Challenge, as the errors there were extremely detrimental to the storyline. Thanks for pointing that out. The text of the books is supposed to be a verbatim copy of the game texts, see UESPWiki:Style Guide/Book Layout#Text. Most of the books on the site are directly copied from the construction set; I went ahead and replaced The Armorer's Challenge, too, with text directly cut-and-paste from the construction set, which revealed a few more mistakes in the original text. For good measure, I checked both the Morrowind and Oblivion versions of the book, and they are identical. So the differences aren't due to different versions of the book existing in different games.
I'm not sure where the text for that book came from and why it was so messed up. Given the date when the page was created, I was able to figure out that it was copied from the old UESP site, specifically [1]. So somewhere in ancient history somebody transcribed it incorrectly and it's just been getting copied from one place to another since thenĀ ;) I'll check the other books that were created at that time and see if there are any others that need to be fixed.
If you notice any other discrepancies, please point them out. If you don't have access to the construction set, you can just put a note on the book's talk page stating that the text has errors, and someone can grab a new copy of the text pretty easily. --NepheleTalk 01:17, 1 August 2007 (EDT)

Fancy LettersEdit

Are we restricting the use of the Fancy Letters to just books which use them in Oblivion? Or would it be appropriate to use them in other places as well? Just thought I'd open it up for discussion. (And cause the page I created to keep those letters off of Unused Files to not show up as an Orphaned Page instead...) --TheRealLurlock Talk 19:13, 22 July 2008 (EDT)
