The Attempted Resurgence of the Illusionist, Part Four
The cult of Jagar Tharn attempts to take over the Empire

Under the Voice of the Emperor

22nd of Sun's Dusk

Entropy, being broken down, chaos... could this mean the Staff of Chaos? Where is "below the Emperor's voice"? The Emperor no longer lived, so what could this be a metaphor for?

Adruin pointed out that the Real Barenziah discussed the Staff of Chaos in detail. "According to the books, the staff is what defeated Jagar Tharn in the first place, so it's obvious the one who sent this knew we needed help. Who could've known in the first place, though?"

It seemed nearly impossible to figure out what the note meant, but Varus suggested it could possibly be under the Imperial Palace. The others thought that would certainly be a good place to check, but there was no way to get inside. Desperate, but without answers, the group asked everyone, but found no answer. It had been four days, and it seemed that every bit of time wasted was making this Jagar Tharn plot even more problematic. However on the 26th of Sun's Dusk, Na-Wur received a copy of the Black Horse Courier. Headlining the front page: "Palace Break-In?"

Another breakthrough, perhaps? Na-Wur knew they couldn't simply waltz through the palace, but it might be possible to go under it. Na-Wur heard it suggested that the Thieves Guild had performed the break-in; being acquainted with the Guild, he paid Armand Christophe a visit, along with a large sum of money. In return, he learned the crucial secret: a place accessed from the palace sewers leading to an underground Ayleid ruin called the Old Way, perhaps the old foundation of the Ayleid city before it was conquered by the Imperials.

To add to their good cheer, the mages of the University rid Vincente of his comatose curse, so that he would have no further episodes. Varus even managed to procure an ebony shard from which to make arrows, further stengtheningĀ [sic] their efforts.

The group went to the Imperial City Arboretum, where they could access the Imperial Palace Sewers. The band of four entered the sewer, finding nothing out of the ordinary. Beggars and the unwanted clamored in the shadows, and the party did watch out for vampires. Using his plans, Na-Wur eventually found the entrance to the Old Way and, pulling away the locks on the Ayleid door, entered. Inside, they found Emperor Martin Septim, who was inexplicably alive and well, staring happily - although a little dazedly - at the shocked adventurers.
