Captain Tobias' Sword-Meeting with Cyrus the Restless is an uncompleted unofficial project produced by Michael Kirkbride, writer and artist on The Elder Scrolls Adventures: Redguard, in commemoration of that game's 15th anniversary.[1] It was announced on 25 November 2013[1] along with a promotional poster featured on the C0DA website listing credits for other contributors—among them, other Redguard cast and crew members: Cyrus' voice actor Michael Mack, writer Kurt Kuhlmann, and artists John Pearson and Hugh Riley.[2] The work's title follows from two previous out-of-game stories about Cyrus written by Kirkbride, the folk-tale Lord Vivec's Sword-Meeting With Cyrus the Restless and the science fiction-inspired Tiber Septim's Sword-Meeting with Cyrus the Restless.
While voiceovers were recorded in 2013,[3] Kirkbride stated in 2015 that he needed "to get the story to feel right". In 2021, he further explained that "The VO was recorded long ago. Some illustrations exist. Kurt's bit of the writing exists, but mine is scattershot. I love all of the existing elements, but I'm also well known for abandoning projects for large amounts of time. Short and unexciting answer: maybe one day. [...] it's a story that needs to be told in a specific way, as the prose and voiceover intertwine. Also, I told Michael Mack in what format his voice would be used, and I must hold to that. But... who knows, maybe I could release a snippet of it sometime in the near future, because frankly hearing a bit of the story in his voice is fucking awesome."[4]
