Detailed WalkthroughEdit

Talk to Lady TriveldaEdit

If you happen to visit the Gilded Duckling while Lady Trivelda is eating supper, and if her husband Lord Kildred is not present, then Lady Trivelda will mistake you for one of her servants and send you to find out what Lord Kildred gets up to on the evenings when he misses supper.

Lady Trivelda is suspicious of his activities, and asks that you not reveal to him that she has tasked you with investigating him, merely to report back to her whatever your findings are.

Find out where Lord Kildred goesEdit

Speaking with various people on board The Gilded Duckling and a few other people on the docks will reveal that Lord Kildred frequents the Bayside Inn - specifically a room on the second floor occupied by a woman named Captain Saxa. In order to prove the pair are having an affair, you need to catch them together. They meet at Saxa's room every Morndas, Middas, and Fredas, from 4pm to 9pm.

The room, of course, is locked - you'll either have to pick it yourself (it's an Average lock), or convince Gerald Fander, the proprietor, to give it to you. If you choose the latter route, you need to get his disposition over 80 before he agrees to hand it over.

Confront the couple, or report back to Lady TriveldaEdit

Once you're in the room, you'll have to ask Saxa if she knows Lord Kildred to initiate the conversation, whereupon she'll say: "Well I can hardly deny it, seeing as he's right here! What is it to you, anyway?" If you tell her you were sent to spy on them, she'll be angry: "I see. Well, now you know the truth, will you tell Lady Trivelda that her husband is sleeping with me?"

You have three choices at this point: tell Lady Trivelda, lie about it, or try to blackmail them. If you try to blackmail them, Kildred will agree to pay you, but says he doesn't have the money on him; you'll have to return the next night. He has no intention of paying you, however - he just needs the time to frame you for a false crime. Once you get your name cleared, you can report back to Lady Trivelda.

Lady Trivelda offers no reward whether you tell her the truth or not, and will be insulted if you even suggest some compensation for your efforts. If you brought her bad news, then not long after you disembark from the ship, The Gilded Duckling sets sail and leaves Bravil, stranding Lord Kildred with Captain Saxa.

Journal EntriesEdit

Strange Bedfellows (BANBravilGildedDucklingQuest01)
Stage Finishes Quest Journal Entry
1 Lady Trivelda, who lives on a vessel named The Gilded Duckling in Bravil Docks, has asked me to find out what her husband gets up to some evenings when he should be with Lady Trivelda having his supper! I am to report my findings back to Lady Trivelda, and she has instructed me not to let her husband know about it. First, I need someone to tell me her husband's name.
10 Lady Trivelda's husband is called Lord Kildred. At least now I know who I'm supposed to be looking for. It sounds like whatever he's doing, he does it almost daily, so if I don't find anything out today, I can try again tomorrow.
20 I've heard that Lord Kildred sometimes visits a guest on the 2nd floor of the Bayside Inn.
30 I discovered that Lord Kildred has been sleeping with another woman. Lady Trivelda will be expecting me to return as soon as possible with some information.
35 After speaking with the couple, I am considering not telling Lady Trivelda the truth.
45 I blackmailed Lord Kildred into paying me 2,000 gold to keep quiet about his affair. I am to meet him in Captain Saxa's room at the Bayside Inn tomorrow evening after six, when he will have the money.
50 It looks like Lord Kildred has double-crossed me! I have a bounty on my head, he must have reported me to the guards for some false crime. I should just give Lady Trivelda an answer and get this over with - once the guards have stopped chasing me.
90 Finishes quest  I told Lady Trivelda that Lord Kildred has simply been going for walks in the nearby countryside. She thanked me and told me to go about my business, without offering any reward for my time.
95 Fails quest  Lady Trivelda is dead, this has all been a waste of my time.
98 Lord Kildred is dead, I ought to tell Lady Trivelda.
105 Lady Trivelda was very angry when she heard of her husband's infidelity. She ordered me to leave her immediately.
109 Lady Trivelda was very upset when I told her of her husband's death. She ordered me to leave immediately.
110 Finishes quest  The Gilded Duckling has left Bravil Docks.
Notes
  • Not all Journal Entries may appear in your journal; which entries appear and which entries do not depends on the manner in which the quest is done.
  • Stages are not always in order of progress. This is usually the case with quests that have multiple possible outcomes or quests where certain tasks may be done in random order.
  • If an entry is marked as "Finishes Quest" it means the quest disappears from the Active Quest list, but you may still receive new entries for that quest.
  •   It is possible to use the console to advance through the quest by entering setstage BANBravilGildedDucklingQuest01 stage, where stage is the number of the stage you wish to complete. It is not possible to un-complete (i.e. go back) quest stages. See SetStage for more information.
