Removing blood?Edit

I was just wondering if you knew of a console code that removes blood from the screen, because I haven't been able to find one? I've been trying to take some dynamic creature and hostile NPC screenshots but the blood always seems to get in the way! I could probably use Photoshop to clean up some of them, but it would be easier if there was a way to clear it in the first place. Darksquirrels 00:00, 1 February 2012 (UTC)

Usually just wait a little while and the blood will go - using set timescale will make time move faster, which might help. Please don't Photoshop the pictures though - we prefer 100% unedited images! rpeh •TCE 06:19, 1 February 2012 (UTC)
Ok I'll try that, thanks for your help! So far the only edits I've made to my uploads is adjusting the brightness, which I assume is ok? Darksquirrels 09:25, 1 February 2012 (UTC)
Yes, adjusting brightness/contrast is acceptable, and even encouraged. In-game screenshots often look way too dark when posted on the site. Just don't overdo it, or it looks unnatural and over-saturated instead. --TheRealLurlock Talk 13:54, 1 February 2012 (UTC)
In Skyrim, very, very little adjustment is necessary. Morrowind and Oblivion screenshots are usually unusable without retouching, but with Skyrim your best bet is to wait until the ambient lighting changes. rpeh •TCE 20:39, 1 February 2012 (UTC)
Hmm, I guess that makes sense for exterior shots at least (all the snow), but interiors can still get very dark. I've been adjusting some of them myself when I see them. --TheRealLurlock Talk 04:26, 2 February 2012 (UTC)

I didn't know about that one - thanks. rpeh •TCE 20:39, 1 February 2012 (UTC)

PNG Image FilesEdit

The images help file says that .png files have the "best alpha." The program that I use to process screenshots can just as easily create .png files as .jpg files. If you know, is one generally better than the other? Is it ok/good to save a .png file named with a .jpg extension for some reason? --Jreynolds2Talk E-mail 05:13, 1 February 2012 (UTC)

We use JPG for screenshots because it compresses them well and means we can get good-sized images without them taking up too much space. PNG files are great for icons and things that need transparency (which is basically what alpha means) but for game s/shots they take up far too much space. Please don't use the wrong extension - that'll cause even more confusion. Good luck! rpeh •TCE 05:42, 1 February 2012 (UTC)
Clear. Thanks. I took a shot at revising the help page section on formats. I see that my question is actually answered in the section above it. I had just forgotten. --Jreynolds2Talk E-mail 08:23, 1 February 2012 (UTC)

Hovertext quirk with imagesEdit

For some reason, on an image if you specify the link and the hovertext, the link overrides the hovertext. Is there a workaround to this?

Ex: [[Image:SR-icon-Basic Trainer.png|link=Skyrim:Block|Block (Common)]]

New UserboxEdit

Hi, I was just on the Nationality Userbox page and wanting to use one for Mexico, which isn't listed. I posted about it on the discussion page a while ago, but no one got back to me so now I'm trying here. I noticed on the talk page that you made a new one which was requested by another user a (long) while back, so I figured I'd ask you if you could add one for Mexicans as well. Sorry to bother ya. I don't really know how to add it myself since there's no image of the flag, or at least I wouldn't know where to find one here. Thanks in advance. -Alphabetface 03:20, 3 February 2012 (UTC)

rpeh: I'll be AFK for a bit, but I grabbed the 200px version of the Mexican flag from WP to make your life a bit easier. Robin Hoodtalk 03:31, 3 February 2012 (UTC)
Okay, so I tried playing around with it and I've got the general idea, but I can't figure out how to make the image smaller... I posted what I did on my sandbox for now, but the image is huge and I would love some input as to what I'm doing wrong. Thanks. Alphabetface 03:58, 3 February 2012 (UTC)
Nevermind, got it. Sorry for the trouble. And thanks RH. Alphabetface 04:18, 3 February 2012 (UTC)
Looks like TheRealLurlock beat me to creating a userbox by a couple of minutes. You can now use {{User Mexican}} to add the userbox to your page if you want. Robin Hoodtalk 04:40, 3 February 2012 (UTC)
Oops, and you beat me to posting here about it. Anyhow, yeah, there's an "official" one now. Fully customizable like all the nationality userboxes, so you can change the colors and text if you want. --TheRealLurlock Talk 04:42, 3 February 2012 (UTC)
Thanks to all of you for the help. I really appreciate it. Alphabetface 04:48, 3 February 2012 (UTC)

Help us help youEdit

Sorry, man. I hope you get your admin privileges back soon, or you seize an opportunity to re-earn them quickly. And I hope I've made it clear on the AN that I think you're right about a lot of things. The idea of penalizing you here for comments you made on the TESwiki, in this context, seems absurd. You seem to have had a legitimate grievance, and whatever minor infractions you may have committed there in the process of airing it are not our problem. Treating your role as an admin here to mean you have the responsibility of being an ambassador of the UESP at all times in your off-site internet excursions is extremely unrealistic. TESwiki's specific relation with the UESP and your mutually known identity is irrelevant in my opinion because it's clear from a close reading of the TESwiki comments at issue that you were speaking as an individual, not in your role as a UESP admin, and your sophisticated audience knew that.

That being said, you are not free of wrong-doing in how you went about things, especially on the UESP, and I think your best option at this point is a sincere, unconditional apology with a promise to maintain more courteous and uncontroversial contributions in the future. Here's why, no sugar-coating:

#1 - You have not been acting like an admin. Picking fights with admins on rival wikis and threatening legal action? Are you serious? Just because I think you're right to be upset about the "theft" and it's wrong to penalize your actions doesn't mean I don't recognize that the way you went about the matter was quintessentially childish. And then when a guy takes exception to your behavior through the appropriate UESP channels, you revert and threaten to block him? The f***? Your retort that Krusty reverted the discussion is meaningless because his actions don't remove your own bias. It was ridiculous to assume you could suppress a call for your resignation in this context on the grounds that it was "disruptive". That kind of reversion stretches the concept of assuming good faith passed the breaking point, especially given the subsequent threats to block Snowmane. That was just ... wow. Were you high or drunk at the time? I mean, even assuming for a moment that these were justifiable administrative actions, there were obviously other admins available, so it's not like you had to take action in a matter where you were so clearly entangled up to your eyeballs. If the vote had proceeded naturally, and the only concern was your off-site conduct, you may have been fine, and may not have gotten a single person working against you except Snowmane. But instead, you dug your own grave. Arguing semantics about whether you can "delete" things from TESwiki or what qualifies as an insult to their admins also does not help your cause. When you actually take the time to address some of the substance of the accusations, you mixed a couple good points in with the bad ones I mentioned, and followed it all up with a stubborn, back-handed "apology" that refused to even acknowledge that you might have been, shall we say, overzealous? Frankly, you're actions at this point seemed intended to create unnecessary conflict, exactly what an admin can't be allowed to get away with.

#2 - Your past hurts more than it helps. This is not the first time someone has requested revocation of your adminship, nor the first time a call has achieved some success. There have been many disgruntled users over the years who could have been kept appeased through more cooperative comments or actions on your part, regardless of the merits of their arguments. Then there was that whole sock-puppetry fiasco. Before my time, but as far as I know, you still deny the accusation despite the mathematical miracle that must have occurred for it to be false. One way or the other, someone with your controversial history should expect close scrutiny for abuses of discretion, yet you seem to play more fast and loose with the rules than any other admin. There are standards for admins, and your placement on the Active Users list doesn't insulate you from them.

#3 - The image of the UESP does matter. Your name is, by your own admission, especially intertwined with the UESP. When you go off and embarrass yourself on some other site and sabotage dissidents here, you do harm to the community. We get a bad reputation, contributions decrease, vandalism increases, more and more contributors become demoralized and leave, and in the end, readers suffer. But, hey, you don't give a ****, because it's "your" wiki, right?

Long story short, strong arguments can be made that your actions fall squarely outside wikipedia's expectations for admins. It's kind of hard for people like me who think you should remain an admin to acknowledge that without being able to rely on an earnest apology from you for your role in this series of unfortunate, eye-roll-inducing events. Can you please provide one? This isn't South Park; kissing Jesse Jackson's ass is not involved, just a sincere expression of regret for any actions you acknowledge in hindsight to be unbecoming of an admin, accompanied by a somber, forthright explanation of why this whole thing has been blown out of proportion and there's no need for drastic action. Maybe also recommend or second an alternative punishment. I think that's what a good admin would do. It could be a lot more effective than your current defense, which I have dubbed, "F*** You, I'm Right: The Rpeh Rebuttal". ;)

And let me be absolutely clear on something: your positive contributions in the past don't mean diddly-squat to me in terms of judging your current behavior. It's the contributions you have yet to make which should not be cast aside lightly. I think you're perfectly capable of keeping your temper in check and controlling yourself with a minimal likelihood of any further major incidents in the foreseeable future, and that's what you have to convince people of. I hope you don't hold any of this against me, just trying to help. Minor Edits 21:51, 7 February 2012 (UTC)

Found something note worthyEdit

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ebony_Blade I saw this and thought it might be note worthy. Its highly possible that the Ebony Blade in the whole series is a reference/easter egg to the Marvel comics one.--Dro'Bakha 17:49, 21 February 2012 (UTC)

Rpeh isn't too active at the moment. The Ebony Blade first appeared in Arena, so if the Ebony Blade can be considered a reference, it would be mentioned in the Arena namespace. We apparently don't have an easter egg page for Arena, so your best bet is to bring it up here and see if it's worth mentioning on the associated page. Although to be honest, I wouldn't get your hopes up. Minor EditsThreatsEvidence 20:07, 21 February 2012 (UTC)
