Helping out.Edit

okay, heres the skinny. I want to help out, and I have found out that I do not mind answering peoples questions, like the question about staves I answered a few minutes ago. I know that I can reach the Questions that need answers in the help files, but I was wondering if there was some like, association, like the Mentors I could join, or If I could start my own, say, The Answers? Just wondering, thanks. Jesus loverTCEJS 01:16, 1 August 2008 (EDT)

HelpEdit

Ok I need some help Neph. Our newest editor, Sload, appears to only be here to start fights with Temple-Zero, and has already used foul language on Temple's talk page. Temple-Zero has admitted to only joining UESP to troll and pick fights. I've done all I can do, what with myself being a simple editor, and I'm going to take a quick wikibreak to keep myself in check so I don't say something to either of them that I will regret later. If you could look into this matter, perhaps a couple temporary bans are in order to calm things down, I'd appreciate it. Cheers! DaedryonTCE 00:39, 2 August 2008 (EDT)

Well that's rather alarmist. I'm sure Sload will restrain as long as no one goes around saying things like 'TIL is unsourced' (the sources don't have sources, or am I missing something here?) and 'Rpeh knows more lore than you do.' He's certainly not going to make me break any rules, nor do I intend to be breaking any in the near future, which is kind of odd because apparently I just confessed to being 'only here to troll and pick fights.' If that sentence isn't a testament to the power of word choice, I don't know what is. Peace. Temple-Zero 00:45, 2 August 2008 (EDT)
You're a forgetful little guy, aren't ya? You said, and I quote, from Sload's talk page; And I confess, I came to the site spoiling for a fight, or rather, a trolling match. Bam. Evidence A, your honor. DaedryonTCE 00:47, 2 August 2008 (EDT)
I don't think any reply is necessary to that, because I have to believe that Nephele has basic reading comprehension skills, and its her talk page. Temple-Zero 00:50, 2 August 2008 (EDT)
Whatever kid. Just drink in the last few moments you have here at UESP DaedryonTCE 00:53, 2 August 2008 (EDT)
Thanks for the heads up, Daedryon, but I don't see anything that requires immediate action right now. Obviously my take on the details of and intentions behind the recent posts is somewhat different than yours. And when in doubt I prefer to not jump in too hastily -- I really don't think the wiki is going to melt down in the next couple hours if we allow Sload and Temple-Zero to continue contributing. --NepheleTalk 01:00, 2 August 2008 (EDT)
Hehe, nice way to word it. I didn't think the wiki was gonna melt down heh. I had just seen some foul language, and such, and I had a gut feeling that things between Sload and TZ weren't gonna get better. DaedryonTCE 01:02, 2 August 2008 (EDT)

The IPEdit

Can't you just block him? I do beleive he's already had a previous IP blocked and now that he's remade that user talk page and vandalized, he's pretty much earned a block. DaedryonTCE 23:54, 8 August 2008 (EDT)

I was already working on it, but it takes more than ten seconds to double check the facts and be sure of what is going on. Blocks (or admin actions in general) should not be done until you've taken the time to understand the situation. All of which is generally a lot easier to do if people aren't interrupting me with unnecessary messages on my talk page. --NepheleTalk 00:04, 9 August 2008 (EDT)
Lol at the last part. Sorry! DaedryonTCE 00:05, 9 August 2008 (EDT)

Cell LocationEdit

Hi Nephele. Thank you for all of your help! In particular for the items disappearing from a container glitch (by the way your suspicion was correct the items were still there) and for help using the console to tell which cell i'm in. (although when i tried to teleport to the cell id, the location was more or less empty). In a related matter, I was wandering if it is possible, or even recommended, to set a marker to a cell location in order to transport directly there. Please let me know if I can help out the sight in some way. Rhapsody 18:56, 11 August 2008 (EDT)

It's possible through the console and/or construction set to add more markers to the map, although I've never done it myself; coe seems much easier. If you'd like to help on the site, the best place to start is our Getting Started page; Helping Out and Task List provide more specific information on tasks that can be done to help the site. --NepheleTalk 13:21, 14 August 2008 (EDT)
Thank you. --Rhapsody 09:07, 15 August 2008 (EDT)

A small subject of matterEdit

Hi!! I heard you are a very good member on this website so I thought I should ask you this question. What has happened to uesp generally. About a year ago this website was very active and new pages were being posted every day. Now, the last time the main page had an update was about a month ago and that way about a morrowind map. I know that most of the information has already been made and that most of Oblivion's information has been posted but I'm just wondering why there isn't more to do. I know that I can contribute more but I can only do so much and I am afraid I am quite lazy. What I would like to see is some investigation trying to see when tes 5 will come out or if some new content is coming out.

Thanks for listening! Paradox 20:54, 13 August 2008 (EDT)

If anything, this is site is more active than it was a year ago, not less. See the Recent Changes page for a listing of all the edits that are being made, or the recent Site Update for information on site traffic. If you're interested in helping out, see our Getting Started page or the Task List specifically for tasks that need to be done. As for TES5, we have a page on The Future of TES Games. Given that the purpose of the wiki is to document established facts, not collect rumors and personal opinions, there really isn't much more "investigation" that can be done. --NepheleTalk 21:16, 13 August 2008 (EDT)

Templates and other such nonsense.Edit

Hey, rumor has it that youre a mentor, and im in the need of one. not much, really, i just need help with some templates on my user page. im trying to figure out if there are templates for Divine Crusader in the Knights of the Nine, Pilgrim in the Nine Divines, and Duke of Mania in the Court of Madness. thanks, Baconator96 01:52, 14 August 2008 (EDT)

Unfortunately, I'm a bit too busy at the moment to really help out much as a mentor. And it looks like rpeh already pointed you to the userboxes page; the factions subpage is the specific one you're looking for. --NepheleTalk 13:21, 14 August 2008 (EDT)

Main Page TalkEdit

You Neph, are in the wrong. See my edit summary. I reverted the IP's question for 2 reasons. (A) it was badly worded and in the wrong section, and (B) he removed an entire section, therefore, it's vandalism. DaedryonTCE 23:24, 21 August 2008 (EDT)

Neither (A) nor (B) equals vandalism. Ever. What makes an edit vandalism is the editor's intention. Unfamiliarity with how to edit a wiki is not vandalism. Insulting a new editor by claiming otherwise is completely counter to core wiki guidelines such as Assume Good Faith. If you don't believe me, then all you are doing is further proving that you are completely unfamiliar with this site's guidelines. Until you have read and understood articles such as Vandalism you should not be making claims about what is or is not vandalism.
As for this specific edit, I just made the edit that should have been made in the first place. Without any need to insult the original poster in my edit summary. --NepheleTalk 23:29, 21 August 2008 (EDT)
Hmm, so removing an entire section, that happens to be placed at least 4 sections above the bottom doesn't qualify as vandalism? Well, I guess I should go around doing just that, and then play the "inexperienced editor" card and trump you. Also, I read your note. It's called Recent Changes, you should try it sometime, it's really useful ;) DaedryonTCE 23:31, 21 August 2008 (EDT)
It's not disrespectful, it's a warning. I had to put up with alot of crap from IP vandals, and completely stupid Admins and B-crats back at Wiki. I was one of the most active vandal fighters, then some stupid stuff happened, I was blamed for stuff I didn't do, and then exiled. I had a rebirth into the fire, metaphorically speaking, and I'm tougher now. DaedryonTCE 23:43, 21 August 2008 (EDT)
Ok I'm gonna admit defeat....for now. I just checked the history and it seems I read it wrong. The editor edited the "Search feature" section, blanked it and put his question. Obviously just an inexperienced editor. And as much as it pains me to say this, I'm sorry. DaedryonTCE 23:49, 21 August 2008 (EDT)
Thank you. --NepheleTalk 00:09, 22 August 2008 (EDT)
I was just informed on how you take this very seriously, and I have to say, you've got quite a heart to commit so much of your time to keeping UESP a good place. I guess what I'm trying to say is, right now, I look up to you. You're my role model now, despite the possibility of me being older than you (I'm 20). DaedryonTCE 00:11, 22 August 2008 (EDT)
Ummm...being an atmospheric scientist with a house, a husband, and a dog, I'm gonna guess that Nephele's the older one here, Daedryon. :Þ Oh and just for the record, I hate how MediaWiki doesn't give you any warning that you're not logged in, other than the lack of the usual line at the top-right, which is hardly noticeable! [Re-signed] --Robin Hood (TalkE-mailContribs) 02:47, 22 August 2008 (EDT)
Yeah, I think I've won this one by a long shot. In fact, it might even deserve a place in my "Why Turning 40 has been Fun" scrapbook ;) --NepheleTalk 10:23, 22 August 2008 (EDT)

Wiki software change?Edit

Hi Nephele, only recwently, when i look on the recent changes page, when i look at an edit made by a usre/ip who does not yet have a uerpage/ talk page, instead of a red link i get a black link with a question mark, is this a change to the wiki software or something to do with my preferences? --Volanaro TCE 10:29, 22 August 2008 (EDT)

No changes have been made to the wiki software. It sounds like you've unclicked one of the options under my preferences: look at the Misc tab for the option "Format broken links like this (alternative: like this?)." --NepheleTalk 10:34, 22 August 2008 (EDT)
Ah, thanks, not quite sure how it got unticked since i havent looked at that screen in ages, sorted now. Might be cos i havent used this pc in a while (Just got back from London) --Volanaro TCE 10:39, 22 August 2008 (EDT)
