WHY THE HECK DID U BLOCK MEEdit

I don't even change anything on this site your just want me blocked.Your stupid

Okay, well the IP you just used isn't blocked and the fact that you could post this message is proof of that. 195.93.21.40 and .41 are both blocked though because of previous vandalism from those addresses by a user called Granty. Those addresses and your latest ones are both addresses for an AOL proxy and it seems you've picked up block messages aimed for somebody else.
That said, if you then choose to come on and call one of most experienced editors "stupid", I don't think we're missing out on anything important. –RpehTCE 06:34, 2 February 2008 (EST)

Help on questEdit

Hi Nephele,

You say that you know a lot about Oblivion? Then i hope you can help me. I'm accidentally a vampire on my game, and im doing the cure quest, but i cant find any nightshade... The guide says at the arcane university, or at the main ingrediant in imperial city, but i couldnt get it at either of those, so do u know any definate places in the wild? or any shops? If so, then thanks a lot, if not, then thanks for trying.

Regards,

Game Lord

PS. Sorry about the bad grammer, its just that i quick-type

You can find a full list of known samples and other good locations here. That should help. –RpehTCE 10:32, 4 February 2008 (EST)

Morrowind AlchemyEdit

I have some of the information you need to create a Morrowind alchemy calculator. Let me know how I can get this (Excel workbook) over to you. --Eric

Oops, sorry I didn't respond to this earlier. If you want to email me the info, get in touch with me by email and we can figure out how to do it. Ideally what I'd like to get are the equations, but if nobody's worked them out then probably eventually it will come down to number crunching, so collecting information would be good. --NepheleTalk 22:30, 1 February 2008 (EST)
I was going to do that but I can't see your address without creating an account. Here are the equations:  .
If anyone is better at algebra than me please feel free to simplify these. I haven't touched this in over three years but I'll try to jostle my brain if the variables are unclear. You can e-mail me at edyagener AT yahoo if you'd like me to send you the calculator I created; it will output the value of a potion + the mag/dur of each effect based on the alchemy skill, int, luck, apparatus quality, and effect(s) chosen. Ingredients were not taken into account whatsoever but that shouldn't be too much of a challenge for you based on what you've accomplished already. The weight formula is the same as far as I know. --Eric
Any luck? --Eric

Who wants cookies when they can have...Edit

You have been given a wine selection!

Your dedication and diligence to the wiki has not gone unnoticed. A user has seen the progress you've made, and has given you some wine because of it. Good work! The user reminded you to drink responsibly and also had the following to say:

You've managed to take what was already one of the best parts of the site, the Oblivion ingredients pages, and make them even better. Your dedication and ability is a constant inspiration to the rest of us and you deserve a bottle and a half of wine at the very least! I don't know what we'd do without you. –RpehTCE 14:01, 10 February 2008 (EST)
Thanks, Rpeh (*hic*)! And I'm glad you like the updates to the ingredients pages :) Just trying to get one of my long-neglected projects finished off... although most of what I've done so far is just preparation for adding maps for the creature-derived ingredients. I'm sure you'll notice those once I'm ready to upload some! Then I think I'll be ready to declare the Oblivion ingredients done :) --NepheleTalk 19:59, 10 February 2008 (EST)

360 Mehrunes Razor Mod?Edit

Do you know if you can purchase the Mehrunes Razor on X-box live? Thanks. — Unsigned comment by 216.234.126.23 (talk)

Yes, you can purchase all of the Official Mods using Xbox Live. See Oblivion:Downloads and Oblivion:Official Mods for details. --NepheleTalk 23:41, 10 February 2008 (EST)

Experience Point QuestionEdit

So I was wondering if there is table or listing that shows how many experience points it takes to raise a skill one point... for example if I have an armorer skill or 42 (and I get 1.5 experience points every time I use a repair hammer) how many experience points does it take to get to skill level 43? Thanks in advance...

Try Oblivion:Increasing Skills#Experience Points Needed. That section has a full table of exactly how many experience points are required for every skill level increase. --NepheleTalk 15:18, 13 February 2008 (EST)

Perfect, thanks for the info. Sorry I did not catch that page before...

CS QuestionEdit

Hi Nephele,

Long Time no speak. I was wondering if you NEED to have installed Oblivion to your PC for the Construction Set to work/be able to use. I am assuming that you must. I feel a little stupid haha. Thanks! --Playjex 13:06, 14 February 2008 (EST)

You don't need to have Oblivion installed, but without Oblivion installed the CS is somewhat useless, since there is no data to load into the CS. See Oblivion:Construction Set. --NepheleTalk 13:10, 14 February 2008 (EST)

IP ban in order?Edit

There seems to be an issue with a person from this IP address:124.176.238.228, he/she seems to commiting a few acts of "webpage terrorism" as he/she has messed up a few pages.--Crazydax 04:23, 16 February 2008 (EST)

Now warned. A block comes next. –RpehTCE 04:35, 16 February 2008 (EST)
Thanks for cleaning up the vandalism! As Rpeh said, at the time when you posted this message a warning was all that was appropriate; see our Blocking Policy for details. If you notice someone vandalizing web pages, you are free to add an appropriate warning to the person's talk page. Other than cleaning up the edit, that's the most useful thing that can be done, and all editors are welcome to give out warnings when warranted.
If the person continues to vandalize after the warning has been posted, then an admin will block the account. There's no real need to leave a message on an admin's talk page: the person will get blocked as soon as admin checks the recent changes page. In any case, a more appropriate place for messages about admin-related tasks is the Administrator Noticeboard, rather than individual admin talk pages. --NepheleTalk 12:11, 16 February 2008 (EST)

Question about Fanfiction SectionEdit

Alright... you're my favorite of the mentors, so I thought I'd ask you.

Is there anything special I need to do to put a story on the Fanfiction section? I thought about just trying to create a page, and putting it there... but I don't want to get in trouble because of my technologocial... inexperience. MadeMan21021 00:34, 17 February 2008 (EST)MadeMan21021

Thanks :) If you'd like to add some fanfiction, the best thing to do is start by editing General:Fanfiction and add your story's name to the page in the same format as the other stories listed there. Save the page, then click on the red link you just added, and add your story to that page. You don't need to worry too much about formatting. The main thing that gets added to all the fanfiction is the tag General Fanfiction Trail right at the top of the page, but if you'd prefer to not deal with the tag, someone else can add it later. Have fun writing! --NepheleTalk 01:53, 17 February 2008 (EST)

Daggerfall editing feedbackEdit

I have done some work in the DF section (spells and questing), and I am wondering what you think.

My next "move" is to write a general guide to the spell-maker, and then subsume the "Useful Custom Spells" section into it. James Wildspell 18:02, 17 February 2008 (EST)

What I've seen of your edits looks like exactly what those articles have needed. In particular, it looks like you've put a lot of effort into condensing overly-personalized (and often first person) suggestions into objective information, which is far more appropriate for UESP. It can be hard knowing whether you're doing the right thing when you reduce five or ten sentences into just a couple sentences, but the content you've been deleting looked to me like it was much too specific to be useful to anyone other than the original author. And you've also been adding a lot of new, good, and useful information. You've clearly mastered our Style Guide :)
While I can't help with Daggerfall content, if you ever come across a question related to wiki formatting or general how-to, please just ask. It's the least I can do to thank you for all the work you've been doing! --NepheleTalk 01:16, 18 February 2008 (EST)

Thank you (re: console commands, timescale)Edit

Just wanted to say thank you for the information about changing timescale bugs !
Best regards,
-- Laisren 15:54, 18 February 2008 (EST)
p.s. Regarding "This user has a hard time defining her national identity." ... :-)

You're welcome. Although Kivan is probably the one who really deserves the thanks, since he's the one who researched those bugs and added the info to the quest pages :) I just figured that the information also warranted mention on the Console article. Also, I added a partial answer to your question about spell duration onto the Oblivion:Time article... there's some more followup I was thinking of doing there, but then (as always) I got distracted by 50 other edits that needed to be made.
And the national identity is a long story ;) I figured three different country userboxes needed some type of explanation (especially since I could have even added a few more...) --NepheleTalk 13:17, 19 February 2008 (EST)
re: your edits to the Time article... Awesome! Thanks (again)! -- Laisren 23:51, 21 February 2008 (EST)

Console Command Guide History PageEdit

Something's gone awry with the history page on the guide (at least for me) as I can't see any of the changes past the change to the CloseOblivionGate command, and I know there are at least a couple beyond that because I did them myself. I should also mention that it logs me out whenever I go to the history page. And that this doesn't happen with any other history pages. Any ideas as to the issue, or a solution? --NightStryke 19:14, 20 February 2008 (EST)

It sounds like there's a problem somewhere with a cached copy of the history page. In other words, one of the computers in the chain that processes your request has a 4-day old copy of the history page and is insisting that old copy is up-to-date. So that computer is showing you the old copy instead of forwarding the request to UESP's database. You're seeing a stale page even though you're asking for a fresh one.
We've been pretty aggressively increasing the amount of caching done at UESP over at the last couple of months, as one way to handle the overwhelming number of readers we've been getting. So there are probably four new checkpoints where one computer or another checks for a cached copy before deciding whether to forward the request to UESP's main database. And occasional problems have cropped up with the new caches; in fact, there's another problem that came up just an hour before this post.
Nevertheless, I don't think the out-of-date copy of the history page is coming from UESP. There are a few reasons for this.
 • I've tried accessing that page several different ways. In other cases of caching problems, similar tests have clearly identified that there was a problem at UESP. In this case, all of the tests that I could come up with showed me the correct version of the page.
 • You were logged in when you tried to pull up the history page. Most of UESP's caches are bypassed when you are logged in; all of the previous problems have been reported with users who were not logged in at the time.
 • You're being shown a logged out version of the page. I don't think it's that you're being logged out, per se. Rather this out-of-date cached copy that you're being shown happens to be the logged out version of the page. No logged in users have reported problems with UESP giving them logged out pages. And I'd inevitably hear if that was commonly happening, because it would be affecting all of the UESP editors (including me).
So that leaves two general possibilities:
 • The cached copy is on your computer. If that's the case, Ctrl-F5 should work to fix the issue. (Ctrl-F5 works for Internet Explorer and Firefox; it may be a different command on other browsers). That forces your computer to ignore any locally cached copies and get a new copy of the page.
 • The cached copy is on one of your internet service provider's computers. This type of problem is most prevalent with satellite cable companies (although in those cases the problem can be so severe that you can never stay logged in to UESP). There's no real way to fix the problem in that case, but you can work around it. If you click on any of the options that appear on the history page (in particular the "20", "50", "100", "250", or "500" options), that effectively results in you requesting a different page (the URL is different). Therefore the cached copy won't match your requested page name; if the cached copy is ignored then the request should go through to UESP. There are a lot of ways to take advantage of this trick if you need to use it regularly.
In the meantime, I'll keep digging at UESP. Even if the cached copy of the page isn't coming from UESP, it's possible that some settings at UESP are contributing to the problem, by telling other computers in one way or another that their cached pages are OK. Let me know if you're able to make any progress at your end with finding a way to view the page. --NepheleTalk 23:22, 20 February 2008 (EST)
Well, I just went to check out the page again and it's up-to-date. I didn't do anything, though. Was the solution on your end? Or did it just fix itself? Either way, thanks for the (incredibly detailed) response (and possibly the fix, if that was you). --NightStryke 20:29, 24 February 2008 (EST)

About Lucien Lachance's sword.Edit

You seem to know more about TESIV than just about anyone else on this forum and I've been curious as to what type of sword Lucien Lachance uses. If you know will you please tell me it's name, maximum attack, and enchantments? I've been wondering for a while and your help would be much appreciated.

Containers...Edit

Hello again, I don't know if I'm spossed to tell someone before hand but I just completly re-did the "Containers" page... sorry if I diddn't need to say anything to ya ^.^ --D521

Welcome back :) You don't need to tell anyone that you're planning to make an edit. On the other hand, when you decide to delete two thirds of a page, other editors really would like to know why you thought so much of the content needed to be deleted. And in this particular case you deleted entire sections of the article that contained information not present anywhere else on the site, and that was even linked to from several other places (for example, the section on using a dead creature as a container).I realize that you were just trying to help by providing some of the requested cleanup. However, cleanup does not mean deleting information that other readers may find useful, and it doesn't mean rewriting sentences that already had correct spelling and grammar.
Whenever you make dramatic changes to an article, it's a good idea to post an explanation on the article's talk page (e.g., Oblivion talk:Containers). And an even better idea when considering such a large-scale change to an article is to place a copy of the article in a personal sandbox, make your suggested changes there, and then ask for feedback. That ensures that the article isn't disrupted in the meantime.
Given that some important information was deleted from the article, I really feel that it's necessary to put that information back as soon as possible in case any readers are looking for it. Therefore, I've chosen to reinstate the previous version of the article and put your modified version of the article into a sandbox in your user space, namely at User:D521/Containers. I'd suggest that you then make a post at Oblivion talk:Containers explaining why you thought the changes that you made were necessary, and asking for feedback from the community. Based on that feedback, you can continue to work on the sandbox version of the article, until everyone agrees that your new version is ready to be put in place. Thanks! --NepheleTalk 00:44, 22 February 2008 (EST)
Glad to be back i think... The clean-up notices said specifically the article needed "Unnecessary emphasis, many oversimplified facts, unprofessional style, cleanup empty/pointless lists, etc" And these things to me seems that the article had too much generally useless information. Such thins as empty/pointless lists, and many over simplified facts would seem that some of the information needed to be deleted. To myself at the time of editing it seemed that all the information that would be needed or even remotely worthwhile was kept... There is almost no diffrence at all between NPC's and Creatures when their are being used as Containers, and for htem being dead or alive, you can't realy use them for containers when they are alive, this it did not seem to be needed. For the sentences being rewritten, i did not re-write any specific sentences, but took the information that was already in the article article already, and for most of it just shortened and took out much of the "Over-simplifacation" that it contained. Littarly a very large portion of the entire article, is listing diffrent containers. all of which can be jsut as easly found by looking at them.
Just expressing my point of reasoning there, i am sorry if it came out a bit... angry? i am not, but re-reading it, it looks to be that way. Much of the previous/still implimented article is usless and really offers no worthwhile information, although it seems that it is not all usless. Was just posting the above here first before going to the talk page to see if i should continue trying t oclean-up this article or let someone else. ^.^

~Best Regards, D521

Actually, to me "oversimplified facts" means that the information needs to be expanded, not deleted: a more complete explanation needs to be provided because the current explanation overlooks relevant points. There is some content on the article that needs to be deleted, but in general we try to be pretty cautious about deleting information that editors have added to articles. The editor who took the time to write up the information for the article obviously thought it was useful. So in most cases for a sentence to qualify for deletion, it should either be information that is clearly stated somewhere else on the site (if it's on a different page, then a link to that page should be provided) or the information should be incorrect. In any other situations, it's best to provide an explanation on the article talk page.
And, again, one critical reason why I went back to the previous version of the article is the section on using creature corpses. That section contains unique information that some readers find useful (including the recent addition of the Miscarcand fish), and is linked to from other articles (e.g., Oblivion:Houses#Anvil, Oblivion:FAQs#How do I grab and/or drag items?, Oblivion:Getting Around#Moving Lots of Items with your Horse). When choosing between the two versions of the article, the top priority is which version contains all of the necessary information; formatting and style is secondary to content. --NepheleTalk 22:23, 23 February 2008 (EST)

Confirmation EmailEdit

I entered my Email adress in 'My preferences' and had it send a confirmation Email. However, after waiting for half an hour nothing arrived at my inbox, neither did I get it in my 'spam' box. roughly a week later I tried again, but to no avail. Is it a problem I am overlooking, or is there an issue with Hotmail-adresses or anything?

It's not that important since not many people will email me, given the fact my name appears less than yours for example, and you are a mentor, but now that I started by entering my Email adress I just really like to finish it ;) - Korunox 19:17, 23 February 2008 (EST)

I'm not sure what the problem could be. I'm assuming you've checked the obvious, such as making sure that your email address is entered correctly (no extra spaces, for example?). There shouldn't be any filters or other limits on what email domains are allowed; as long as it's a valid email address it should work. And although there have been times in the past where the site's email was buggy, all indications are that site email is working right now. I got a notification email about your post on my talk page; an email sent to myself was delivered within seconds. And they all use the same wiki subroutines to access the same email server. I'm also not aware of anyone else having problems recently with confirmation emails. For that matter, I know of one editor who created an account just this afternoon while we were talking in IRC; that person was obviously able to receive the confirmation email because the email feature works on the new account. So I'm not sure what else to suggest... sorry. --NepheleTalk 21:39, 23 February 2008 (EST)
I will try a couple more times, just to be very, very sure. If that doesn't work I'll try with another of my email adresses, one that I use only occasionally. if it's not a known issue with Hotmail-accounts then another account should work. Thanks for the info anyway!

Update: Well what'ya know, when I changed my email recently, I apparently forgot to save, so it was reverted to the wrong adress (the one with spelling error). Now it works though, and I got the confirmation mail ^^ - Korunox 10:42, 24 February 2008 (EST)

Gripes about KoN and Shivering Isles???Edit

Alright I do admit that I was a little brutal on the expansion Shivering Isles and the DLC Knights of the Nine, but I do believe that some of the gripes have merit like not being able to loot the armor off dead Golden Saints and Dark Seducers, and that the new spells for the expansion are only conjuration. I’m not trying to cause trouble on the UESP, and I’m not trying to come off as a whiner either I’m just trying to voice my frustration with a few things about the Shivering Isles and Knights of the Nine. Also I do have some questions as for as gripes/complaints go about quests and items from the expansion and knights of the nine do we post them in the official plug-in section or in the quest section? Same goes for NPCs, etc.

About another sword...Edit

I've heard rumors that there is a ruler of a city in the game who has unique and powerful sword. Is this true? If so, what is it called and what's so special about it?

Thanks,Glass

There are several items provided as quest rewards, which are mostly listed at Leveled Items (for example, Thornblade). You may also want to look through Artifacts and Unique Items. But if you're asking whether there is some easter-egg-type sword with no relevance to any quest, no, none of the city rulers have such an item. --NepheleTalk 17:38, 25 February 2008 (EST)

Signature problemEdit

Hi Nephele,

I'm having slight problems with my signature. In the signature box of the preferences page I've typed in: Game LordTalk|Special:Contributions/Game_Lord

I've double, and triple-checked this, but when I sign using the ~~~~, it comes out differently (You'll see how when I sign this post). Do you know what's causing this? And do you have a solution? It's getting really tiring typing out the signature every time I want to make a post, so if you could find the source of the problem, I would really appreciate it.

Thanks,

[[User:Game_Lord|Game LordTalk|Contribs]] 12:29, 26 February 2008 (EST)

It looks you have not checked the box that says "Raw signatures (without automatic link)" Unless you check that box, the wiki tries to embed everything in the "Signature" box into a link to your user talk page. --NepheleTalk 12:34, 26 February 2008 (EST)
Ah right, I thought without automatic link meant without the ~~~~ link, so you had to type out the signature in full. Now that I think about it that's a bit stupid; why would someone want to do things the long way... Anyway, thanks, and it's edited now (as you will see). - Game LordTalk|Contribs 12:37, 26 February 2008 (EST)

BlockedEdit

this was said on some pages i have tried to edit

Your user name or IP address has been blocked from editing by Nephele for the following reason:

Repeated vandalism (same editor as User:Granty)

Your IP address is currently 195.93.21.39. Please include this address in any queries you make. You can wait for the block to expire, you can contact Nephele or another administrator via e-mail to discuss the block, or you can appeal the block on your talk page (which you can still edit even when you are blocked). Keep in mind that you can only use the "e-mail this user" feature if you have a verified e-mail address in your preferences. More information on UESPWiki's policies is provided at the Blocking Policy page

Your IP address is currently 195.93.21.39. Please include this address in any queries you make.

And I asure you i Am not The user granty. So if possible could you tell me why i've have been blocked from editing some pages, which i have edited before e.g. the Anvil page.

Marleysexton 15:08, 26 February 2008 (EST)

You are getting this message intermittently because your IP address is dynamically assigned: each day when you connect to the internet you are given a new IP address. In other words, the message is not related to the page that you're trying to edit but rather is based upon your internet connection that day. And occasionally you are being assigned the same IP address that has previously been used by a prolific vandal on the site (who vandalized using multiple account names and multiple IP addresses). To prevent that vandal from continuing to vandalize pages we had to prevent anonymous editing on that particular IP address.
However, you should not be getting the message as long as you log in first. The easiest way to avoid warning messages and other problems that result from having a dynamic IP address is to simply setup your browser to login you automatically every time you visit the site. Then the site will know who you are and will not mistake you for an anonymous editor.
In addition, given that it's been three months since this vandal was active and your feedback makes it clear that some of the IP addresses he used were dynamically assigned, I've lifted the blocks on all IP addresses used by Granty in this IP range.
Hopefully that should clear up all editing problems. If, however, you still encounter any error messages please let me know! :) --NepheleTalk 17:44, 26 February 2008 (EST)

FanfictionEdit

Now this is really a shameless request! Anyway, I have a new fanfiction up, The Armour of Contempt, and I am after some feedback. Rpeh seems to have turned to stone (hasn't been active since this discusssion), and Lurlock seems busy at the moment, so I'm asking you. I don't know if you've already read it, but if not, please do. --HMSVictory 13:01, 27 February 2008 (EST)

Sorry, but right now I'm barely able to keep up with the wiki tasks that I have to do, especially given that the other admins are (as you noticed) also busier than usual. Our top priority is the primary UESP content, namely the game articles, and keeping up with edits to those articles takes a huge amount of time and effort. --NepheleTalk 23:56, 27 February 2008 (EST)
I understand what you mean Nephele, and I respect that you guys are always occupied. But if you do ever find youself with any spare time, please read it. I guess I really do have no idea how much the admins have to get thorugh every day. --HMSVictory 11:29, 29 February 2008 (EST)

Pages for Individual HousesEdit

I've noticed on the Oblivion:House talk page you said you put a suggestion about Each house having it's own indivivdual page on the tasks to do page.It isn't there, but I put it up there, giving you credit for the idea, and am currently working on it,just wanted you to know.Put it under your name if you like.(I checked under crossed out tasks too.)Puddle 20:20, 27 February 2008 (EST)

Ummm... I'm not aware I ever made such a suggestion. I said that each house needed upgrade details. That task was put on the task list, until was completed, at which point it was removed: that's why Oblivion:Houses now contains complete information on all of the house upgrades (i.e, all of the tables you see that make up the bulk of the article contents). And if all that you have in mind for these new pages is an incomplete copy of the information already on the Houses article, I'm not exactly sure what the benefit is of creating new pages. --NepheleTalk 00:02, 28 February 2008 (EST)

Not a JokeEdit

I've been considering creating a Redguard Eddie Muphy [This is not a joke (actually it is but I'm serious about doing it)], yet i discovered this task will be very difficult if not impossible. Are there any pointers I could have about face making? -- Glass p.s. sorry for asking so many questions :v)

Sounds like you need a face mod. But since I have no experience with any such mods, I really can't say much more than that such mods exist. --NepheleTalk 00:04, 28 February 2008 (EST)
Is it possible to get a face mod on a console? — Unsigned comment by Glass (talkcontribs)
Nope :) --NepheleTalk 12:42, 28 February 2008 (EST)
