When you're editing, it's always a good idea to leave edit summaries to explain the changes you have made to a particular page, and remember to sign your talk page posts with four tildes ~~~~. Also, the "show preview" button is a great way to view the changes you've made so far without actually saving the page (our patrollers really appreciate it!).

- You are welcome. I notice that you are getting really active now. It's addicting and fun, right? I want to gently suggest that you might consider putting out a friendlier attitude in just a few of your edits and contributions. Clearly, you want to contribute to the wiki, and you really are. But one way that we can be helpful is to sometimes slow down a little bit and think about the feelings of people whose posts we edit. For someone who is new, and trying to make an improvement, for example, just having their post reverted with a message like "Don't do ____" may feel hurtful and discourage someone from contributing, even if they did make a mistake or break a policy. We want to try to help people who make mistakes, and simply deleting their attempt to help with a "Don't do this" will make most people feel bad.
- When I first started, I corrected something in the comments of a talk page, and I got this: User_talk:JR#Talk_pages. Even as nicely as Minor Edits wrote, and with the generous explanation, I still felt bad. I think most people are somewhat nervous when they first enter any kind of group. The wiki needs people who want to contribute, and I hope we can all be as encouraging as possible.
- You are also charging someone with "messing with links," today, which suggests that someone is deliberately vandalizing the wiki. In fact, it seems pretty clear that the person was trying to help, that they had a reasonable basis for making the change that they did, and you actually reverted to a non-working link instead of fixing it. I am totally sure that your intention is to do your best to protect the wiki and to be helpful. I don't want you to stop, and there are plenty of examples of experienced and effective editors who can come across as at least somewhat harsh at least sometimes, but it is actually a fundamental policy of the wiki that we be nice to each other, and that includes to people who contribute without accounts. In fact, it's official policy to treat them the same as others, and we need some of them to have good experiences so that they will be motivated to continue contributing, whether they choose to create an account or not.
OK. Now I'm hoping to practice what I am preaching as well as I can, and I hope that I don't sound like I have any negative feeling about you, that I am discouraging you, or that I am not allowing you to make your own mistakes (however small). I really think I understand where you are coming from, and you are doing a lot of great things. Do any of my comments here make sense to you at all?
It might be useful to review some of the following policies and guidelines: UESPWiki:Etiquette; UESPWiki:Assume_Good_Faith, and to take them seriously.
So, please keep editing, but I just want to suggest that you consider several options before reverting or changing someone's work. Sometimes, it's a lot better to discuss something with someone on a talk page if you disagree with it, otherwise you might not be sure why they are doing something, you may miss the chance to teach as well as learn, and you may start to make some people feel negatively toward you or toward the whole wiki. You don't have to be sure you are "perfectly correct" before you do something, but remember that we all make mistakes, and there are many, many situations where there is not a right or wrong, but a difference of opinion. I am not very experienced on the wiki myself, but I offer myself to discuss something with you if you want to talk about it before you take an action. Or use the other relationships that you have started to develop, or will develop, with many of the very smart and very generous and kind people in this community. There are lots of people who will help you out, be happy to listen to you and share their knowledge and opinions, and also who will appreciate you and your work here. --JRTalk E-mail 04:30, 14 February 2012 (UTC)

- I can see that you mean no harm, and I don't think you are causing any. I just saw one or two things that I personally would have done a little differently. I saw many, many more great things, and, of course, I did not sit here and look through all of your edits! There is not always a clear line between "nice enough" and "not nice enough". There is no way to be part of a group without someone feeling upset or offended sometimes. I really meant it when I said that I appreciate your work, and I'm sure others do, too. I just wanted to call your attention to a few small things that I noticed, ask you to think about them, and invite you to talk with me anytime (on my talk page, on your talk page, by email, however), if you ever want to. I hope we'll be good friends and partners here. Finally, I don't want to leave this whole thing cluttering up your talk page.
