Entries on each of the Vampire Clans in the Iliac Bay

Map of the Vampire Clans

My name is Glenn Dalomax, Palantius of the Order of the Lamp and servant of the Arch-Mage here in the Phrygias Mages Guild. I have been ordered by the Arch-Mage to assemble notes on each of the nine vampire clans that exist all throughout the Iliac Bay. I traveled across the region and sought information from many sources, such as the Ash'abah nomads that live in the northern Alik'r Desert, the archives in Dwynnen, and documented first-hand experiences such as the book, "Vampires of the Iliac Bay". I have also collaborated with my colleague, the Master of Academia, Saban Benele, and corroborated my notes to provide a concise document on the nine vampire clans.

Introduction

In the early years of the First Era, the Iliac Bay was a frontier only occupied by the Aldmeri of the Dellese Isles and the disparaged Nedic-folk that later became the proto-Bretons. At the time, the only major settlements in the region was the Direnni Tower, on the Isle of Balfiera and varied Aldmeri outposts across the inner bay coast. The ancient humans and even giants lived in the innermost parts of the region, scattered about in small and isolated tribes. It was in this time the three ancient vampire clans rose into prominence, preying on the lowly tribesfolk. Each of the three clan's progenitors hailed from the east in Skyrim and were victims in the aftermath of the legendary cremation of one Lamae Beolfag, the first vampire. However instead of being devoured, they formed the genesis of Lamae Bal's cult of vampires, and soon spread across the continent to spread their disease.

Lyrezi the Witch-Doctor, Selenu the Clan Chieftain, and Vraseth the Lead Hunter traveled west to the Iliac Bay, hidden amongst the many Nedic wanderers that saw fit to live their own, away from the dominion of the Nordic Empire. The exact information is unknown, but the three vampires had reportedly a falling-out that caused them to split to three corners of the Iliac Bay. Vraseth traveled to the woodland of Glenumbria and sat at the pinnacle of Mount. Hearthham, where he would survey the land for his quarry. Selenu ventured into the dune landscape of the Northern Alik'r, where her newfound domain seemed boundless.

The Three Ancient Clans

The Minor Clans

The Anthotis Clan:

The Anthotis Clan is one of the most elusive and largest vampires clans in Tamriel, and any information about them only comes from rumors and conjecture. They live across the Great Alik'r and reported sightings came from all points of the province. The Alik'r is a vast and endless ocean of winding dunes and shifting sands, and the Anthotis are skilled in traversing such a treacherous, but picturesque landscape. There is a strange, but alluring phenomenon in the Alik'r, where a vast red mist comes out of the sands, and apparently some people like to attribute the mist as the blood from the Anthotis' victims, just to scare children and travelers.

When I met Chief Dinok at-Marimah of the Ash'abah near Sep's Spine, he told me more concise information on the vampire clan. It is indeed true that they are the largest vampire clan in the Iliac, but they are also the most scattered. There are so few settlements in the desert that can stay together, with all the sandstorms that come through regularly and the lack of water, so there's no known centralized location for the Anthotis to meet. Except maybe massive ruins like Volenfell, or even Vuulnim Tarn. They are constantly moving in packs throughout the desert and sometimes they disguise themselves as ordinary nomads just to enter large caravans and travel across the region. They discreetly target their victims and expand their numbers across the province.

It is unknown what their motives are, but the Ash'abah believe that the Anthotis are preparing for sometime big, maybe even an attack on the neighboring clans. It is for this reason and their intellect, the Ash'abah hunt the Anthotis more than either the Selenu, the Montalion, or the Khulari. Their crusade on vampires have even inspired the mercenaries and brigands that congregate in that dysfunctional fort-city, Alik'ra, who hope to find Anthotis fetishes they can sell to the black market at a high price. More information on the Anthotis should be gathered by the Mages Guild so tread lightly if you venture to far from civilization in the Alik'r Desert.

The Montalion Clan:

The name of Clan Montalion, should be familiar to those that hail from Satakalaam, it shares the name with the Montalion Necropolis, the expansive crypt found on the north end of the county's capital city. The locals don't remember its name origins, but some of the Iliac's most esteemed vampire hunters and even the Ash'abah of the Alik'r remember all to well. In the early-mid First Era, all of central Hammerfell was controlled by the Gray Host, an unholy legion of vampires and lycanthropes that hailed from Verkarth. At the time, Satakalaam was ruled by Magnifica Izoufa Montalion and the necropolis was built by her grandfather to house the dead Ra Gada.

Despite her title of Magnifica, she was not content with a town like Satakalaam and sought greater power to the west with Sentinel. She made contact with the Gray Host via a mutual friend and joined the Gray Host as a vampire. Her country was in ruin and many people were turned, much to the dismay of the Redguards. After the Gray Host's defeat at the Bangkorai Pass, Izoufa teleported back home and found Satakalaam burned down by the Ash'abah. Her people were slain and their bodies were burned in piles. Caught in the fires of her palace, she made another escape, into the Banthan wilderness where she was never heard from again.

In a couple decades later, the Montalion vampire clan first appeared in Ash'abah scrolls and were reportedly sighted on the Serpent's Peninsula, on the north coast of Satakalaam. It was clear by their blood samples studied by the School of Julianos in the mid-Third Era that they were descended from the old Montalion family. However, not long after Satakalaam was re-consecrated by the Crowns, all mentions of the Montalion family were destroyed, effectively erasing them from history, save for the necropolis.

By 1E 1072, the Montalion Clan were sighted across the north Bantha, around the Bjoulsae River and even in east Stormhaven (Gavaudon and Wayrest). Of all the three minor clans, the Montalion have the most likelihood to rival the three ancient clans, especially considering their holdings in Wayrest and their affinity for teleportation, which allows them to move freely across the Bjoulsae. It is because of their significance in power is why they often clash with the Selenu Clan, who hold Sentinel with a cold iron grip.

The Thrafey Clan:

The Thrafey Clan was founded by Camoran Thrafey, a distant cousin of Haymon Hart-King that turned into a Vampire Lord from an archaic ritual passed down by the scion of Clan Telboth. While it is clear now that Haymon's armies was made of mortal mercenaries and soldiers, there was a portion of his legion that indeed consisted of the Undead and Ghosts. This small portion of his army was known as the Nightmare Host, and it was the culmination of Thrafey's greatest works. Her council of vampires was the genesis of the Thrafey Clan, each of whom were turned by her during Haymon's campaign across Valenwood.

After Haymon's victory at the Battle of Dragontooth in 3E 253, he sent Lady Thrafey and her Nightmare Host to the north, across the Iliac Bay and lay the foundation of her newfound kingdom in Dwynnen. She swiftly took control of the region and subjugated its people to a life of slavery. But she was slain by the knight, Othrok and his band of warriors, and her Nightmare Host was vanquished by holy light. Thrafey's generals had fled like the wind, and while some were successfully hunted, four others survived and they established clans across the North Iliac Bay, between Dwynnen and Ykalon.

The Thrafey are in constant state of alarm. Even after the Camoran Usurper's demise two hundred years ago, the Order of the Raven continue to hunt down members of the clan, to honor Othrok's last words before his death. From what is known in Castle Wightmoor's archives, the Thrafey have the ability to restore damage tissue and seem virtually impervious to attacks. But of course, this is just a trick and that anything made from silver or mithril shall suffice and permanently kill them. According to an interrogation report of a Thrafey vampire, the clan had a somewhat stable alliance with the Vraseth Clan and a distinct feud with the Anthotis, but the details of such are currently unknown.

The Lesser Clans

The Garlythi Clan:

The Garlythi Clan is the local vampire clan found on the northern High Rock Sea Coast in Northmoor, and the boreal woodland in Phrygias. From what I have surmised in my experience with them, they are split between themselves, one that lives throughout the ghastly and rocky coastline in Northmoor, and the other that lives in the silent boreal woodland in Phrygias. The schism dates back to the founding of Clan Thrafey in 3E 253, whose expansion north into Ykalon split the Garlythi between them, since then, the Mages Guild have been determined to take down the vampire clan, and be one step further to annihilating the clans across the region. The Lamp Knights and I have been involved in various attacks on the Garlythi, such as last year's raid on one of their largest haunts, Moromulon in Northmoor.

The Haarvenu Clan:
The Khulari Clan:
