QuestionEdit

Can you help me out with setting the font color on the Notice template on my userpage ?--TheAlbinoOrc 23:57, 1 April 2010 (UTC)

Have a look at what I just did to it and see if that's what you were after. I changed both the font colour and the border width. The Notice template isn't currently set up to change font colour directly within the template, so you have to use another template, {{FC}}, within it. Robin HoodTalk 01:54, 2 April 2010 (UTC)
Thanks !--TheAlbinoOrc 18:24, 2 April 2010 (UTC)

My Sincere ApologiseEdit

Hey, just wanted to let you know, I have recently been unbanned, I am sorry about what I did,...Just wanted to clear my conscience bro. Really sorry, I acted like a complete and utter fool. I am really sorry about that.

Ghost Cat.Edit

Hi, I was wondering if someone with access to the Construction Set could compile a list of npc ghosts (Ex. 1, Ex. 2, Ex. 3, Ex. 4.) and make it into a category? It may be worth adding to pages. I ask a pc user because with the constuction set, you can do it five hundred times faster than me searching the wiki, thanks :)--Arch-Mage MattTalk 01:19, 9 April 2010 (UTC)

I do have the construction set, but I'm not sure how I would extract info like that. So, instead, I searched the wiki. It looks like, besides the ones listed here, there's only The Night Mother, The Forlorn Watchman, and these Blades; KotN adds Pelinal Whitestrake and these Blades. --GKtalk2me 00:10, 15 April 2010 (UTC)
Isn't there an active spell on them that makes them appear as a ghost? I assumed you could search for that.--Arch-Mage MattTalk 00:11, 15 April 2010 (UTC)
if it is a shader effect, using the console would allow you to apply it to yourself (like adding a kill on strike effect to ALL daggers) but seeing how theres a bit of a difference between npcs with the ghost look, its more likely that they actually look like that (like dagon in his appearance kinda). Oblivion Main Page QuestionEdit

There's something marked as a Question needing an answer on the Oblivion Main Page but I'm pretty sure it's been answered could you take a look and confirm ?--TheAlbinoOrc 20:33, 14 April 2010 (UTC)

To save some time, this is the...errr...question in question. I don't see a definitive answer there. Robin HoodTalk 22:04, 14 April 2010 (UTC)
Oops, I guess it was somewhere else that I'd seen that the Gray Cowl shows all enemies that will stop you from waiting.--TheAlbinoOrc 17:41, 15 April 2010 (UTC)
Actually, it was there, it's the third reply from the bottom.--TheAlbinoOrc 18:17, 16 April 2010 (UTC)
Yes, but that doesn't answer the question, which asks for the "specific distance which monsters have to be within to prevent you from waiting or fast travelling". It may be helpful in determining the distance, but it doesn't give the exact figure. --GKtalk2me 21:52, 16 April 2010 (UTC)

CookieEdit

semi protected?Edit

hi i was just wondering what semi protect i and how you get it?(i don't need it and probly never will but i'd like to know)--GUM!!! 18:23, 20 April 2010 (UTC)

Semi-protection restricts anonymous and newly-created users from editing a page. Major pages like the various game main pages are permanently protected, since they're frequently visited. Other pages that have previously been hit by vandalism are usually protected only temporarily, sometimes even including User pages, though this is normally only done by user request or in cases of extreme vandalism.
With only one minor exception, Section Protection, all forms of protection must be granted by an Administrator. In the future, it seems likely that Patrollers will also have a limited ability to semi- or fully-protect pages, but we're still ironing out the kinks on that one. Robin HoodTalk 21:48, 20 April 2010 (UTC)
ok thanks!--GUM!!! 01:27, 21 April 2010 (UTC)

was wonderingEdit

Had an idea recently, like 20 seconds ago and was wondering if it was good or not, as i barely go to this site i thought i might suggest it to someone who's name pops up quite a bit on this wiki (or at least variations like GK) :P a general help to going through dungeons. i've never seen one and ive looked ;D do you think it sounds good? Mikeyboy52 07:44, 21 April 2010 (UTC)

That depends on what exactly you mean by "general help". I can't think of anything that isn't already covered somewhere. --GKtalk2me 00:13, 22 April 2010 (UTC)
Like things to do while in a dungeon, a very basic thing would be to repair armour of enemies. although youd have something that eventually be like the glitches page (in the sense that the talk page might have to be archived every once in awhile).Mikeyboy52 08:15, 28 April 2010 (UTC)
Like I said, I can't think of anything that isn't already covered somewhere else. If you think you can make an acceptable article, though, feel free to write up something in your sandbox. --GKtalk2me 12:53, 28 April 2010 (UTC)

SorryEdit

I didnt know there was a problem with those links, thanks for telling me!! Galarion 13:59, 21 April 2010 (UTC)Galarion

Telvanni StrongholdEdit

Can you check and see if the question on The Telvanni stronghold talk page can have the tag removed ? (normally I wouldn't ask this so soon after the last one but someone else also thinks it's been answered).--TheAlbinoOrc 16:54, 22 April 2010 (UTC)

Yep, it's answered. Thanks for pointing it out. --GKtalk2me 17:04, 22 April 2010 (UTC)
Your welcome !--TheAlbinoOrc 17:07, 22 April 2010 (UTC)

new user box?Edit

sorry to bother you i was just wondering if you might be able to change the wording of your new user box?cause it's a little disturbing for me.thanks--GUM!!! 14:21, 23 April 2010 (UTC)

Am I able to? Yes. Do I want to? No. To change the wording would defeat the purpose of the userbox. The contrast between "fucking" and "princess" is the point. It's intended as not only a humorous userbox, but also as a sort-of message that I don't think the wiki should be censored unless it's something that's clearly offensive to someone. I can't fathom how that could offend anyone, but... whatever. I've had "bad language" on my userpage for years, and no one's ever been offended (that I'm aware of). I suppose I'll just delete the whole thing, though I can't understand how it would be "disturbing" for you. --GKtalk2me 20:41, 23 April 2010 (UTC)
sorry it's just i'm not one for words like that if you want to put it back go ahead but mabye put you could put freacking instead(sorry for the spelling)--GUM!!! 20:46, 23 April 2010 (UTC)
No, I couldn't. As I said earlier, including "fucking" in the text was the point of the userbox. I'd rather not start a discussion over it, since it's likely to get much bigger than just discussing this userbox. --GKtalk2me 20:50, 23 April 2010 (UTC)
oh sorry if you want to put it back go ahead i won't mind--GUM!!! 20:53, 23 April 2010 (UTC)

GK, I suggest that you re-add it. If it is something you want, then do it. Gum, if it bothers you that much, simply do not look at her page. Elliot (talk) 09:01, 24 April 2010 (UTC)

GK, it's your user-page what's on it is up to you. And personally I don't see anything wrong with it.--TheAlbinoOrc 21:43, 25 April 2010 (UTC)
Edit: The "it" I was referring to was the userbox.--TheAlbinoOrc 00:41, 26 April 2010 (UTC)
Re-edit: "It" also referred to your userpage as a whole.--TheAlbinoOrc 20:40, 3 May 2010 (UTC)

Just a QEdit

Hi, um how do you make an... um... thing?... where whomever looks at the text see's there name? so if you looked there you would see GuildKnight and if I looked there I would see The Wurm? please answer me on my talk page.--Wurm 05:20, 24 April 2010 (UTC)

Honestly, I have no idea what you're talking about. --GKtalk2me 23:35, 25 April 2010 (UTC)
He means a special code that would show the current user name, much like "{{PAGENAME}}" would show "GuildKnight/Archive/Apr-Jun2010". Unfortunately, there's no such thing for the user name. There's not even any really sneaky methods of doing it that I can find...trust me, I tried about a dozen different methods when I was setting up the "About You" section of Joram's user page. I think it might be possible to write an Extension that would do it, but I'm guessing that either I'm wrong or that there are security issues, as I've never seen one that does. Robin HoodTalk 23:53, 25 April 2010 (UTC)
Ah! Actually, Wookieepedia uses something like that for their citation tag: Wookieepedia Template:Citation --GKtalk2me 23:59, 25 April 2010 (UTC)
It says add this to Mediawiki:Common.js:
/** Username replace function ([[template:USERNAME]]) *******************************
  * Inserts user name into <span class="insertusername"></span>
  * Originally by [[wikia:User:Splarka|Splarka]]
  * New version by [[User:Spang|Spang]]
  */

 function UserNameReplace() {
    if(typeof(disableUsernameReplace) != 'undefined' && disableUsernameReplace || wgUserName == null) return;
    var n = YAHOO.util.Dom.getElementsByClassName('insertusername', 'span', document.getElementById('bodyContent'));
    for ( var x in n ) {
       n[x].innerHTML = wgUserName;
    }
 }
 addOnloadHook(UserNameReplace);
Elliot (talk) 02:37, 26 April 2010 (UTC)
It's kind of an ugly way to do it, but hey, if it works.... I thought it should be possible with Javascript, but hadn't the foggiest clue how to go about it. The next question is: do we need/want it? (PS, indented your pre tag, Elliot - hope you don't mind.) Robin HoodTalk 02:56, 26 April 2010 (UTC)
hey thanks! I love stuff like this for my userpage. time to do what i love to do - figure out how this code works by trial and error. Wurm 00:46, 28 April 2010 (UTC)
It has to be implemented into the site by an administrator otherwise it won't be working for everyone (which would definitely defeat the point). Elliot (talk) 00:47, 28 April 2010 (UTC)
hmm...i just had a thought...this would probly come in handy for welcomes(like put it where it says"welcome to uesp"and if we put this in it would say"welcome to uesp (name)"--GUM!!! 01:27, 13 May 2010 (UTC)
In the case of welcomes, it might be less useful, as I don't think we want someone visiting someone else's talk page to see their own name on it. In probably 99.9% of cases, you'd want to use {{BASEPAGENAME}} instead (e.g., Welcome to the wiki, GuildKnight/Archive!). This would work fine unless/until the message was moved somewhere completely unexpected. An even better option might be to use subst: within the template which would produce the actual text instead of a dynamic name, so when I enter {{subst:BASEPAGENAME}} the text comes out as Welcome to the wiki, GuildKnight! (Use the edit view to see the difference between the two...in the second example, it'll just say "GuildKnight" in the text.) Using subst has never been a strong point for me, though...there's all kinds of arcane rules with it that have never made much sense to me, so I tend to be a little wary of it. Robin HoodTalk 18:56, 13 May 2010 (UTC)

Thanks!Edit

Thanks for blocking the last vandal; I assume you got my email for the "Justice Bot". He stopped his rampage about after I emailed you, but it was good that you came around for 166.137.10.22. Just wanted to say thanks for being quick and watchful! -- Jplatinum16 23:33, 25 April 2010 (UTC)

You're welcome. --GKtalk2me 23:35, 25 April 2010 (UTC)

question about wikis in generalEdit

wouldn't it be more appropriate to tell the user that (s)he was talking in an old post, and that the chances are the same people wouldnt respond, instead of reverting the comment? with less than 300 edits (and only 3 of them aren't talk pages) i would consider myself new to wikis though ;P Mikeyboy52 12:36, 28 April 2010 (UTC)

Not when the comments left were also unhelpful to the discussion. --GKtalk2me 12:53, 28 April 2010 (UTC)
ok, thanks :D but doesnt that mean that we should revert tons of edits on the oblivion glitches talk page? Mikeyboy52 15:11, 28 April 2010 (UTC)

JPlatinum's Sandbox (Bronze)'s Talk PageEdit

So just to clarify there isn't a problem if I re-create the talk page for the purpose of discussing the sandbox it was deleted due to vandalism (at least from the edit summary), not because it shouldn't exist at all right ?--TheAlbinoOrc 21:06, 30 April 2010 (UTC)

It's okay, nothing was there as far as I remember. The contents in the sandbox are all on the regular Oblivion:Arcane University page, so there is no need to discuss it. You should leave the talk page deleted, just to save server space. -- Jplatinum16 21:13, 30 April 2010 (UTC)
Okay it was just minor formatting differences anyway.--TheAlbinoOrc 23:36, 30 April 2010 (UTC)

SignatureEdit

Your sandbox 2 page (the one with all the colors) is helpfull, do you think it will ever be an actual page? perhaps "signature colors" or something like that? Mikeyboy52 02:59, 9 June 2010 (UTC)

Would you mind checking User:Mikeyboy52/Signature1 and telling me if you think it should be allowed as a signature? Currently using a different signature because another user thought no ;D Mike/|\ 17:53, 10 June 2010 (UTC)
(edit conflict) I doubt it. For one thing, it's not just signature colors, but color codes that have many different uses on the wiki and elsewhere. Feel free, however, to copy it to your own sandbox page if that's easier for you to navigate to.
Regarding your signature subpage, the general rule is 250 characters or less, and in its current state it exceeds that number. --GKtalk2me 18:03, 10 June 2010 (UTC)

Vivec City or Scathing Bay ?Edit

What I meant on the Lore:Sheogorath page was that while the book is lore it's possible that they will choose not to use it in game since they didn't introduce this in such a form that they have to use it. On a side note since that little moonlet crashed into the ground with enough force to send people to planes of Oblivion could a large eruption of Red Mountain be the explanation for the Disappearance of the Dwemer?--TheAlbinoOrcGot_a_question? 17:49, 30 June 2010 (UTC)

I suppose this could be debated, but Bethesda has made it clear that the novel is official canon, part of the lore and history of the Elder Scrolls universe. The only way I can interpret that is to mean that we should treat the novel's events the same way we treat the games' events, and I don't see any reason why we should introduce skepticism about this material when Bethesda does the opposite. --GKtalk2me 18:35, 30 June 2010 (UTC)
Ah. Sorry about that. I wasn't too clear on everything going on with the book, I was thinking it existed in some kind of weird state somewhere between fan-fiction and the events of the games. Thanks for clearing that up!--TheAlbinoOrcGot_a_question? 19:52, 30 June 2010 (UTC)
