Cyrodiil is a land of infinite possibilities, which makes roleplaying easy and fun.
Here are a few of my own roleplaying ideas. I hope you like them!
Shop OwnerEdit
(Jobs-type Roleplaying)
Owning a shop in Oblivion is easy to do and good fun. First you need to find your desired shop. One of my personal favourites is actually a house: Vilena Donton's. But how do make it into a shop, I hear you ask.
Well, believe it or not, you can make a house look like a shop in no time!
Firstly, what are you going to do with all the extra furniture e.g. the dining table? Delete them! Deleting furniture in Oblivion couldn't be easier.
Simply press the ~TILDE key to open the console, click the furniture you wish to delete, and type disable. When you click enter...voila! The furniture is gone! Unless of course, you wish to use drawers and tables to display your wares.
So now it's back to making a shop. Make sure you know what sort of things you wish to sell. Perhaps you supply the town with clothing? Books perhaps? Maybe even artefacts from mysterious ruins... But remember, unless you're selling unique items, you're going to have competition. Pretend the other merchants in town are your rivals, and try to earn more money than them. How do you earn money from your shop? FInd out later in this guide.
Lay your goods out on flat surfaces in your shop. You want to provide your customers with the very best (or just cheap, as Edgar Vautrine likes things!) so be sure to have a lot of choice.
Meanwhile, the original owner of the shop/house you are fixing up have their hands on their hips looking not so pleased! Can you guess what's wrong? That's right---you haven't set the building's ownership! To do this, open the console. You will need to search for 'Oblivion location codes' in order to find what you need to type in. Find the name of the building you wish to own, type in setcellownership then type in the location name exactly as it appears on the internet search. If you've inserted the name correctly, you will instantly become the new owner!
So now you're the owner of your new shop. You've got your goods, you've got custo-wait a second!
The best way to get NPCs to enter your shop is to use this mod: http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=3066 It allows NPCs to follow you around and wait in a desired location,in this case, your shop.
The following can be done only if you have the mod shown above, sorry :( Search the streets of the town, and pretend to hand out brochures to people, inviting them to your new shop. Select 'Friend...' from the topic list, and get the NPC to follow you to your shop. Once inside, select the first topic from the dialogue, and ask for the NPC to 'wait here' and then, 'make yourself at home'. The NPC will then start to wander around. If they stop in front of an item, pretend they are interested in it, and wish to buy it. Pick up the item, talk to the NPC, and select 'Companion Share', before giving the NPC the item they 'chose' to buy.
To add payment for the item, open the console and type player.additem 0000000f Amountofgoldgoeshere as if the NPC is paying you.
Perhaps the NPC searches around for more goods? If not, select 'Dismiss' from the topic menu after clicking the first topic as soon as you talk to the NPC and they will leave the shop.
Remember, you can always use the CS to give your shop a unique name!
Skooma Confiscation TeamEdit
(Jobs-type Roleplaying)
A fun little roleplaying idea I made up a while ago, a member of the Skooma Confiscation Team, your character can find and destroy as much skooma as possible. There's lots of trekking around involved, so your character needs the right gear!
You should wear: Light armour, preferably leather. You want to be left unseen by Skooma Addicts, so need to be light on your feet.
Be sure to have a high sneak skill, as well as a high blade, hand to hand, blunt and block skill. Just in case the Addicts spot you taking their Skooma!
You need to have a house in an isolated location. Drakelowe is good for this, as it will also provide you with crops, and a place to store Skooma.
So what do you do exactly? Well, because this site provides a list of Skooma locations, pretend you are receiving Reports from the Skooma Confiscation Team Headquarters, who will give you 'information' on the latest Skooma discovery. Travel to that location, break in, and sneak around, confiscating any Skooma you may find, before leaving and retreating to your house. Remember, the more Skooma found, the more you will be paid. Let's say...15 gold per bottle. Add it via the console.
Once you think you've confiscated all the Skooma in Cyrodiil, it's time to get rid of the stuff! You can do this in many ways. Perhaps you will throw it into the Abecean Sea to be carried away? Or maybe you will lock it in a chest in the deepest part of a fort ruin, ayleid ruin, or a cave guarded by a vicious monster.
Once this is done, you are sure to receive a large reward from Headquarters. Maybe it's a special weapon? Or maybe a new house, or maybe just a large amount of gold. The possibilities are endless!
Estate AgentsEdit
(Jobs-type Roleplaying)
Believe it or not, even estate agents can be roleplayed in Oblivion!
The Office of Imperial Commerce is the perfect place to use as your Estate Agents. Perhaps the current owner could be your assistant?
You'll need some houses 'For Sale'. Simply use the console command 'Disable' to delete the current inhabitant, and if you're a CS whiz, add a For Sale sign outside. Using the mod mentioned back in 'Shop Owner', take NPCs to look around a house, and if they like it, let them buy it, adding the payment via Console.
But maybe there could be some problems!
Perhaps the new house owner could complain about their neighbour being too noisy, or about a rat infestation. Maybe the house owner is waking up to find litter on their lawn. Anything!
Estate Agents in Cyrodiil should wear middle-class clothes, and carry a small weapon like a dagger. Because you may earn a lot of money by being an Estate Agents, you may want to have a separate house elsewhere in town.
Tax CollectorEdit
(Jobs-type Roleplaying)
Tax Collectors aren't the friendliest people in Cyrodiil, but roleplaying as one is quite enjoyable.
You will wear black clothes, or even a highwayman's shirt for effect, and carry a longsword.
Pretend to knock on doors by punching them, before entering. If the owner has the money to pay the bills, add it via Console. If they don't, let them know that they will be in hot water if it isn't handed in the next day.
Perhaps somebody doesn't pay the bills even after a warning. If this is the case, 'Repossess' furniture.
Maybe somebody has been very silly, and fails to pay their bills even after a week or so. If this is the scenario---throw them in the dungeon and put their house up for sale!
As a tax collector, you may live in the castle, or a lower-middle-class house. You're not the richest person in town, in fact, you may be sneaky and ask for more money than you should...
