Recommended ModsEdit
So this has gotten into a bit of a shopping list as the number of mods I run has gotten quite lengthy in the last month. This is going to be quite a WIP as I sort out just what is and is not working well together. Until I'm satisfied that this list is well and truly "complete", I'm going to opt not to post any links in the interest of limiting the number of flags I may be throwing up for link spam.
Overall, may goal is to compile my personal version of the Morrowind Overhaul as it relates to Skyrim. While it's unlikely that I'll ever get to a point where I will be publishing such a feat, given the sheer number of authors required to grant their permission to redistribute their work, not to mention the work to merge several packages that themselves are still a work in progress, I can at least create a "recipe" which will serve me as a means to rebuild in the event I ever find myself having to re-install.
SkyrimEdit
Before getting into mods, I highly recommend installing the Unofficial Patches. It probably goes without saying that they fix a lot.
- Unofficial Skyrim Patch
- Unofficial Hearthfire Patch
- Unofficial Dawnguard Patch
ToolsEdit
There are a few tools out there that will really help improve your overall modding experience. Some are required by mods themselves, while others just help to automate the installation process.
- Nexus Mod Manager
- Wyre Bash
- BOSS
- SKSE
- ATTK
- TES5Edit
- Automatic Variants
It may also help to familiarize yourself with a few tools such as Nifscope, as there is the occasional mod that needs a quick fix. The Creation Kit can also be helpful if you have two mods that conflict, (for example; two mods try to put an object at the same spot, you can use the CK to move one of the objects).
Improved Character ModelsEdit
Pretty much the first thing to install is your improved bodies, since the choice in body type will not only determine which body textures will need to be installed, but will also have an effect on which armor mods to install with support for the chosen body type.
For females
- Calientes Female Body Mod Big Bottom Edition -CBBE- by Caliente
It was a tough choice between CBBE and DIMONIZED UNP as both bodies have their pros and cons. CBBE has, in my opinion, the best armor mesh support, while UNP does seem to have an advantage of much cleaner seam removal at the neck, wrists and ankles.
There's also the question of which CBBE body to install. The three main choices are Normal, Slim and Curvy. There is also a tool called Bodyslide which allows you to define a custom shape, and an optional download contains presets which aim to match other popular body shapes to the best it can. My personal preference is Slim.
I stick with the default CBBE body textures, and all default face textures except for Khajiit, which I'll touch on in a moment.
For males
- Better males - Beautiful nudes and faces - New hairstyles by Chris57 and FavoredSoul
Again, here we'll be needing to make a couple of choices. First up, the body.
- Nudes - FavoredSoulMeshes - FlaccidVersion
Again, this is more or less up to personal preference. That being said, this one is pretty much required for one particular mod to work as intended a little later on and will require the body texture from ErrectVersion.
The next choice is faces, and is again entirely up to personal preference.
- Faces - YoungerFacesMergedWithMenByGeonox
Nothing special here, just pick whichever looks the nicest.
Now, even though my choice in male faces already includes Coverkhajiits, we'll still need to install it for females.
- Coverkhajiits by mrLenski
Next is some new eye textures.
- Natural Eyes by nevenbridge
There is a second mod that is, as of this writing, still a work in progress. Its aim is to add additional eye textures, rather than replace them. As it stands now, however, installing these eyes will overwrite any other eye textures.
- Iridum Eyes - Mer and Beast by Halendia

- Better Freckles by MadCat221
- More accurate Khajiit chin and lips paint by Rainkitty

TexturesEdit
Textures are pretty much the last thing to get installed, for two main reasons; first, they're the easiest thing in the world to install, and second you need to install them after you install anything with new or modified meshes to insure you're installing a texture that matches up with that mesh.
First up is the Sexy series by horrorview. These textures breath a *much* needed breath of color into Skyrim.
- Sexy Boats v1 by horrorview
- Sexy Riften v2 by horrorview
- Sexy Solitude v1 by horrorview
- Sexy Villages and Towns by horrorview
- Sexy Whiterun v3 by horrorview
- Sexy Windhelm v2 by horrorview
- Sexy Winterhold College by horrorview
OblivionEdit
I have yet to get around to actually playing Oblivion on my PC.
