New Range Block
I've blocked the range 192.173.40.0/24 (blocks 192.173.40.0 to 192.173.40.255) for a period of one week. For the past couple of days I'm sure you've noticed a particular type of vandalism on the site. Two IPs (192.173.40.218 and 192.173.40.175 came from the same IP and I decided a range block was in order to preempt more attacks. If another admin finds this has blocked innocent users from editing, please feel free to unblock without consultation but keep an eye out for more vandalism. –Rpeh•T•C•E• 05:13, 1 February 2009 (EST)
- I've expanded that to 192.173.40.0/22 to catch the latest IP - 192.173.42.148. One more week from today. –Rpeh•T•C•E• 11:46, 2 February 2009 (EST)
- Sorry, but I'm just curious, what's a range block? --Playjex 12:51, 2 February 2009 (EST)
- Most blocks target one account or one IP address. A range block is a way to block multiple IP addresses at once. The first one blocked all 256 IPs from 192.173.40.0 to 192.173.40.255; the latest one blocks the 1024 IPs from 192.173.40.0 to 192.173.42.255. I hope not to have to increase the scope any more than that. For more information, see the Mediawiki site here. –Rpeh•T•C•E• 12:56, 2 February 2009 (EST)
- Thanks for the info and link.--Playjex 13:00, 2 February 2009 (EST)

Rpeh, the ISP for the range seems to be Northeastern State University. Their entire range is 192.173.32.0 - 192.173.63.255, so if we still have problems, let's just block that whole range.-Ratwar 14:56, 2 February 2009 (EST)
- Follow up: He just popped back in from 12.40.34.88, that's owned by Buford Communications. That range is 12.40.34.0 - 12.40.34.255.-Ratwar 18:06, 2 February 2009 (EST)
