UESPWiki:Edit Filter

< UESPWiki: Policies and Guidelines(Redirected from UESPWiki:Abuse Filter)

The Edit Filter, commonly known as the Abuse Filter, is a tool designed to filter edits based on strict criteria. The only accepted use on the UESPWiki for the tool is to stop spam and vandalism, though it can be used for other filtering if desired and approved by the UESPWiki community. The many other uses can be seen in effect on Wikipedia.

Several filters are not publicly viewable as they are used to filter spam by specific catchwords, and revealing these words would eventually make the filter useless as the spam creators would start removing these words from their submissions. All Administrators have automatic access to the filters, but trusted editors can request access to the feature on the Administrator Noticeboard. After a discussion the editor will be given the rights at Daveh's discretion.

The filter ranges from outright blocking an edit from being made, to simply tagging the edit as needing extra scrutiny. The filter isn't always perfect and there may at times be 'false-positives', words unintended to be blocked but containing a word that is blocked. Please report any false-positives on the sub-page. Requests for new filters should be made on the talk page, the Administrator Noticeboard, or the Community Portal, depending on the impact of the intended consequences. Requests for words to be added to existing filters should be posted on the talk page, with an explanation if it is not entirely obvious why it should be added.
