Template talk:Skyrim Materials and Styles

Forever AloneEdit

Well, it is rather sad that corundum, gold, and quicksilver are left alone and not included in the template. I think they should be included, simply because they are.. well.. materials! :P I'm not sure if there were any reasons why they were left out in the first place, so I'll just stick to the talk page before I do anything.

I'm guessing they're excluded because there's no direct forging of these materials into weapons or armour. However, oddly enough, silver is in the template, even though the only two silver weapons cannot be forged. It does have a silver smithing section for jewellery though, and it's for this very reason that gold should be included too, since gold has a similar section.

As for the other two, they may not be forged into equipment directly, but they are still materials needed to forge (and temper) steel plate and scaled (for corundum), and elven and nordic carved (for quicksilver). Also, these three are listed here alongside the other materials.

Well, if no one is dead set against including these, I'll eventually add them to the table and add the template to those articles. ~ Psylocke 16:37, 22 September 2013 (GMT)

I'd support adding those materials to this template. I modeled it off of the Morrowind version of this template, which only concerned weapon and armor materials; as there wasn't any smithing, these didn't have to correspond to any base ingredients, like this template does. I'd be okay with putting these under "Other", or perhaps creating a separate "Jewelry" section for Silver and Gold (or double-listing Silver, with one link going to Skyrim:Silver and the other going to Skyrim:Specialty Gear#Silver Sword). The Morrowind template has a "Other Materials" link to handle these discrepancies. You can handle it however you choose. • JAT 00:13, 23 September 2013 (GMT)
Well, it has been more than a week, and looks like there won't be any oppositions, so I went ahead and added the three materials. I also did a little bit of reshuffling to the template; I added another row called "Mixed", similar to Morrowind's equivalent. Listed below are the changes that I made. Do let me know what you guys think of it. Good? Or can be improved? Or better before?
  • Added a "Mixed" row for materials that are used to create both heavy and light armours
  • Corundum: "Mixed", as it is used to forge/temper banded iron (heavy), steel plate (heavy), and scaled (light)
  • Gold: "Other", after silver
  • Quicksilver: "Mixed", as it is used to forge/temper elven (light) and nordic (heavy)
  • Nordic and bonemold: moved to "Heavy" (arranged according to rating), as all armour pieces are heavy
  • Chitin and stalhrim: moved to "Mixed", as there are both heavy and light variants

Technically, Iron is a mixed material by that definition. It's used in the forging of studded armor. Also, iron and corundum are both used in house building.
It's generally sorta odd that scaled, steel plate and corundum have separate listings, but dragon bones & scales aren't listed despite their use in both dragonplate & dragonscale armor. --Morrolan (talk) 14:28, 4 October 2013 (GMT)
