Detailed WalkthroughEdit
The Encrypted Message you found in the previous quest fingered Vaneris Theneria in the Firewatch chapter of the Mages Guild as a traitor. If you ask Joslin Stoinles, in The Black Ogre Tavern, Bal Oyra, about her, she will tell you that Theneria must be removed one way or another.
The fastest route to Firewatch is through the Guild Guide, found in the keep's basement. You then have two ways of dealing with Theneria. The obvious way is to kill her, which can be tricky as several other guild members are nearby. The alternative is to talk to her and persuade her to leave town. If you take the latter approach, Theneria will give you 50 gold as a thank you and disappear next time you leave the guild. If you kill her then talk to Gindaman, the head of the local guild, he expresses skepticism that she was a spy, and tells you that House Telvanni had tried to kill her on several occasions.
However she is removed, return to Joslin and talk to her again. If you killed Theneria, or lie to Joslin about having done so, she will reward you with 50 gold. If you let her escape and admit this to Joslin, she will be disappointed that you would disobey her but still reward you with 20 gold.
NotesEdit
- If you let Theneria go, admit this to Stoine, and are ranked Warlock or higher, you receive no gold reward, although she will praise your wisdom rather than expressing disappointment. The same applies if you are a Wizard or higher and take one of the other options.
