MapEdit

Could benefit from a sectional map. MethodicMockingbird 14:21, 22 December 2011 (UTC)

Nordic Puzzle near Sleeping TreeEdit

Anyone have any info on this, or know what the relevant article is? It's south-southeast of Sleeping Tree and northwest of North Brittleshin Pass. Three spinners opens a gate to a chest and a skeleton. It has no map marker that I've seen (via misc quests). I've considered breaking the puzzle myself to find the combination. But there're 27 possibilities and I'm really lazy. 98.198.118.224 06:58, 23 March 2012 (UTC)

Combination is Whale, Eagle, Snake if you face west from the handle and go clockwise. Got it on the forth trial. 98.198.118.224 07:05, 23 March 2012 (UTC)
The "answers" are on the columns or broken off on the ground nearby. Each correct panel should face in toward the handle. GrogGrogGrog 07:22, 23 March 2012 (UTC)

Loreius Farm?Edit

Why is Loreius Farm listed in Whiterun Hold's locations when it is in The Pale? Is this a mistake, or is it that it can't be ascertained which hold Loreius Farm belongs to? Evileer (talk) 22:10, 3 October 2012 (GMT)

Shouldn't have been there, probably my fault too. Removed. Silence is GoldenBreak the Silence 22:17, 3 October 2012 (GMT)

NeutralEdit

Whiterun is not a neutral territory. It is Imperial aligned but undeclared. This is quite obvious when reading all the relevant material, particularly Tulius dialogue. Silence is GoldenBreak the Silence 16:46, 2 June 2014 (GMT)

How so? Whiterun Hold is neutral until Message to Whiterun. If it wasn't, both sides wouldn't be badgering Jarl Balgruuf for his allegiance. According to NPCs inside and outside the hold, Balgruuf refuses to let the Legion into his hold, and also refuses to recognise Ulfric's claim to the throne, Balgruuf claims he has no obligations or loyalties to either side, and guards say they'll kill Imperials or Stormcloaks on sight. Vicano (talk) 16:51, 2 June 2014 (GMT)
Tulius does not seek Balgruuf's allegiance, he seeks his permission to send troops so he doesn't offend him by sending troops into his city. That aside, this is a rebellion, and as such there is no neutrality, you are either one side or the other. While the other Jarls have all announced their position in supporting the rebellion or the Empire, Balgruuf has not, but this does not mean he is neutral. Balgruuf protects his city from Stormcloak aggression by not allowing the Legions to be stationed there. An unheard but not cut from the game conversation to take place between Balgruuf and Vignar is particularly revealing "...and we're still a part of the Empire." In short I don't see how anyone can come to a conclusion that Whiterun is actually neutral when considering all the evidence. Silence is GoldenBreak the Silence 17:03, 2 June 2014 (GMT)
I agree. Setting aside the fact that Balgruuf always appears among Imperial-aligned NPCs (as part of the Imperial delegation in the peace conference, taking refuge in the Blue Palace if the Stormcloaks win, etc.), his dialogue makes it pretty clear that he can't stand Ulfric and would rather side with the Imperials if forced to choose. Also, looking at the maps of Skyrim territories that the commanders of each faction have in their headquarters lists Whiterun with a red flag, so it's pretty clear the hold is considered to have Imperial leanings. Mystery BountyEdit

(Xbox 360, all 3 DLCs, patch 1.9) - I received a bounty in Whiterun hold after killing a Dawnguard hit squad that attacked me outside of Volkihar Keep (which is not in Whiterun). Now whenever I go to Whiterun, the guards accost me but do not give me the bribery option even though I have the Speech perk (Speech level is 100) and I am a member of the Thieves guild. The "I'm with the guild..." option worked in Riften for a similar bounty, but is not appearing in Whiterun (1100 bounty). Has anyone seen something like this? And is there any known workaround? Thanks. Minotaur (talk) 05:27, 23 November 2014 (GMT)

Location DescriptionsEdit

I'm going to update the descriptions with additional, general information relating the places to the main holds (e.g. "north of Whiterun.") I'll leave the existing, specific descriptions there (e.g. "North of Western Watchtower.")

The reason I'm doing this is because, obviously, not everyone is going to have all the locations on their map to use the existing descriptions. If you're using this list like a checklist, it's tedious to have to click through the map on every item. Hopefully this proves helpful. Heidismiles (talk) 04:57, 7 January 2019 (UTC)heidismiles

You have already shown awareness of the need for conciseness in the description, as they need to stay short when transcluded to pages such as this. That said, the locations need to balance their orientation between actual nearby locations and far away largely irrelevant but "high-traffic" locations (places people will have mapped). For example, White River Watch is fine orientating itself by Honningbrew Meadery, as it is both high-traffic (its on the road between Riverwood and Whiterun), and it is an early quest target in on of the major questlines. The same goes for using Western Watchtower, as it is discovered during an early main quest. By using more local locations you are also narrowing down the area, as cities have both large and indistinct sides and can be quite a long way from the area. Being responsible for a large number of these pages, I can tell you that I have tried to follow that balance, treating major questline locations as high-traffic.
