Persuasion bugEdit

In one playthrough I had an option to persuade Captain Stig to give me the leader's location, but after reloading with the same character and the same buffs (agent of dibella) and 104 in speech, the option to persuade wasn't even in the dialogue, just bribe and brawl. — Unsigned comment by 77.127.172.59 (talk) at 11:46 on 19 December 2011

possible to get stuck inside the towerEdit

This happened to me when i was fetching Lydia who i ordered to wait for me inside the tower.

After entering the tower through the cave, i decided to sneak-kill the pirates so I ordered Lydia to wait. Unfortunately, This was right after entering the tower, not beside the door going out to skyrim (to the pirate fort/encampment/dock). After killing Haldyn, The passage to Lydia was blocked, so i re-entered through the cave again. I got to the tower just fine. But when I was trying to get out, the door magically disappeared. And the path to the main door was still blocked by rubble. I had to reload a save game to before I killed Haldyn. Teleporting via console commands would work as well.ForsakenOne 15:37, 31 December 2011 (UTC)

water bugEdit

I was walking(sneaking) around outside the tower... occasionally, I would seem to be under water; my crosshair would indicate that I was no longer sneaking, I could hear the watery noise, and one of the bandits was floating as though in water. I cannot determine any pattern to this phenomenon. using xbox 360. anyone else experience this? — Unsigned comment by 71.166.57.105 (talk) on January 11, 2012 11:03

Yes, I've had this, and I'm also on XBox. So far I've run into it on that island, an area around the Wreck of The Pride of Tel Vos, and down the river east of Ivarstead. EmmBee 06:35, 20 January 2012 (UTC)
Same here. Also, sometimes the water is clear and sometimes it is murky. --174.6.51.17 03:40, 31 January 2012 (UTC)

Fireballs CAN Hurt?Edit

I distinctly remember getting instakilled several times -- not by flying cookery, but by direct impact of the fireballs during the assault. This was on PC. Can anyone verify this? Sonicblade128 04:44, 23 January 2012 (UTC)

I can verify this. I was killed once during the mission by a fireball. Sorry, TV screen for yelling at you. 360. 76.106.74.107 20:49, 29 January 2012 (UTC)Kiira

Not Clearable?Edit

I didn't get the "cleared" tag for this location. Is it clearable?(PS3 user)71.224.13.163 18:58, 25 February 2012 (UTC)Marcus

Probably not. It's considered a settlement, and those are not clearable. It didn't show up as cleared on my map either. Wolok gro-Barok 19:07, 25 February 2012 (UTC)

Letter of Inheritence?!Edit

Today I finished the Rise in the East quest and got a Letter of Inheritence. I was in the name of "Blood Horker Pirate". A strange bug! Given I killed many of them and I'm sure none were my friends. Did anyone else have this also? --Saratje 21:49, 4 April 2012 (UTC)

If you cast a Calm spell on one of them, then it's possible that he added you to his list of friends, and if you killed him in one hit then the faction may not have changed over, thus he gave you a Letter of Inheritance. That or it was a very strange bug, I'm not sure. • JATalk 05:35, 27 April 2012 (UTC)

Is stealing the logbook required?Edit

Can only thieves do this quest? Or is there an alternative way to complete the "steal the logbook" objective, if you're playing a good-oriented character? I mean in a way that you don't get any increment in the "crimes committed" statistics (i.e. trespasses and items stolen).

For instance is it possible to raise the disposition of the owner of the logbook enough that she lets you "take" (borrow) it? I can confirm that Suvaris likes me, by the way she greets my character. But still the only option after reading the logbook is "steal", not "take". Perhaps the disposition has to get even higher (e.g. Calm spell) for that to happen? Can anyone confirm this?

I'm also interested in other potential solutions for progressing the quest without having to steal. 201.86.152.200 16:49, 10 September 2012 (EDT)

I have the same question, but for a different reason. My quest marker points to the logbook, but the only option I'm given to do with it is to forge numbers in it, which I don't have any quest to do. If I try to forge the logbook, I just get a message saying there are no numbers to forge. I can't steal it. Exiting and re-entering, which sometimes fixes minor bugs, has no effect. Unless I can figure something out, this quest is effectively dead for me. (Playing on PS3, so console commands are not available.) — Unsigned comment by 67.173.203.225 (talk) at 00:22 on 7 August 2013
Are you sure you're trying to steal Suvaris Atheron's Logbook and not the "Business Ledger"? The business ledger is a large open book at the front of the table, and the journal is a smaller, dark red, closed book which rests behind it on the table (next to a flagon and Nord mead, in front of the strongbox). — ABCface 03:00, 7 August 2013 (GMT)

"Astrid can kidnap you"Edit

Sorry what? What does the "escape" from Japhets folly got to do with Astrid and her kidnapping? More context would be appreciated... CapnZapp (talk) 19:17, 11 December 2012 (GMT)

It's the only way for console users to leave Japhet's Folly without following the quest Rise in the East. Vely►t►e 19:29, 11 December 2012 (GMT)
Sorry, I still don't get it. Are you saying the fix is to go to sleep, hoping Astrid kidnaps you? Or are you saying that if you follow the instructions, Astrid can kidnap you even though you aren't at that spot in the Dark Brotherhood quest chain? Or something else? Like I said, please provide context - on this wiki there's no reason to be coy with hints: if there is a way to escape Japhet's Folly, please provide exact and full instructions on which conditions are required and which exact steps you take to pull off the escape. As it is now, the line reads as a veiled pro tip for experienced players only. Thank you. CapnZapp (talk) 14:39, 12 December 2012 (GMT)
No, it's not meant to be "coy" or even a "fix"—it merely says what can happen. The bug is that if you go back to Japhet's Folly after completing Rise in the East, you're going to get stuck there. You can't leave because your exit is blocked, and you can't fast travel out. If, however, you happen to be at the stage of With Friends Like These... where you have received the Mysterious Note, sleeping in Japhet's Folly will still trigger the next stage of the quest (ie: Astrid whisks you away to the Abandoned Shack). That's all, really. eshetalk 14:46, 12 December 2012 (GMT)
Thank you. Hope you don't mind me using your words to clarify the otherwise strangely unspecific bug note. CapnZapp (talk) 12:45, 15 December 2012 (GMT)

Bug: Adelaisa Vendicci won't leave building to depart to Japhet's Folly.Edit

I have encountered a bug after quest stage 40 (report back to Orthus after talking to Stig-Salt Plank)where my next objective in my journal is to Depart to Japhet's Folly. But there is no dialogue option from Adelaisa Vendicci because she won't go outside to the boat, instead just keeps sweeping the floor and pondering beside the business numbers inside the building. "Prid 1b13e" then "moveto player" next to the boat will not do anything as she will walk inside the building again. Maybe it's because my game is modded, but I'd like to share my solution with anyone else who might have this problem to save frustration.

  1. "tgm" in case you get killed by nearby enemies when teleported
  2. teleport youself to Japhet's Folly with "coc JaphetsFollyOrigin"
  3. go the the boat
  4. "prid 1b13e"
  5. "move to player"
  6. "setstage ms10 41"
  7. talk to Vendicci and continue your quest as normal
  8. turnoff god mod by typing "tgm" again.

In my game, Adelaisa won't move out from the building too, instead she keep sweeping the floor with common dialogue. I can talk to her after reloading my auto save, she give the dialogue and next objective, but still sweep the floor after that XD. I can continue the quest normally after that though. CindyLee (talk) 16:37, 5 June 2013 (GMT)

A few minor info i noticed when playing.Edit

1. There is "key required" locked door at the ship you use to travel to Japhet's Folly (not the one in Windhelm's dock). You can't open it as there is no key for that. There is nothing, nothing at all, behind it though, if you are curious about it.

2. The bug stating that "If you swim to a little boat south of the island before killing Haldyn, the fireball attacks start prematurely. If you leave that boat, the fireball attacks stop again." is true in my game, however, its just a minor animation glitch and won't affect anything in my experience.

3. If you swim to the big boat behind Adelaisa after killing Haldyn, and then swim again to the island, the bombardment will also continue endlessly.

4. If you want to avoid the glitch when some pirates fall into the water and get stuck under the bridge while fighting with Adelaisa, you can ignore the quest marker and kill all of the pirates on the camp outside before entering the sea cave. No enemy left when you get out from the tower after killing Haldyn. CindyLee (talk) 17:19, 5 June 2013 (GMT)

A 'Blood Horker' will still be spawned to fight Adelaisa when you leave the towers and head to her for travelling back. I haven't yet experienced this one falling into water though, and they're usually easily dispatched. (At level 55, it spawned a regular "bandit".) --Freso (talk) 23:11, 9 June 2013 (GMT)

Japhet's FollyEdit

" From the patch notes for 1.9:

Fixed instance where player could get stuck in Japhet’s Folly.

This was implemented by disabling the map marker for the location so it is impossible to fast travel back to it. Arthmoor (talk) 09:00, 10 April 2013 (GMT) "

This is what is written here, and it's the truth. Is there a way to add it to the article? Since the "Bug: fixed" template does not seem to allow that. It simply flags the bugs as fixed by the patches, and that's it. --82.49.105.85 22:06, 19 August 2013 (GMT)

Orthus at End of QuestEdit

If, by perchance, one returns to speak to Orthus at stage 80 of the quest by breaking in "after hours," he will not respond to interaction, but only asking the player to leave. No such problem during opening hours of the EETC, however.--Lmstearn (talk) 14:14, 21 January 2014 (GMT)

Reentering the main dungeon after reporting to AlessiaEdit

On a PS3 with one follower, I reentered the keep. When I came back, the Bombardment was back again full blown. You guys already pointed that out to me as a possibility. What got me was when II went to talk to Alessia and finish the quest, she was alive and well but underwater near an iceberg. Nothing I could do. Tried getting on the return ship, no go, tried drowning and getting the autosave to help me, nothing. Had to reload an early save before anything to do with the island (did not have any saves after getting to the Island, but befor leaving the keep after killing Haydn. Anyone else have that happen? Is Adelaisa not fighting back the norm or a bug?Edit

Is it normal that Adelaisa does not actually fight back against the Horkers and the Bandit during the quest? I refer to the final part of the assault on the Horker base during the fire catapult portion. When I ran through this quest the Horkers and the Bandit attacked her, but she just stood there with weapon drawn and did not attack them. Checked a few times and thus occurred in every case. — Unsigned comment by 76.23.115.144 (talk) at 21:39 on 28 October 2014

The "back door" to the Folly was pickable for meEdit

tl;dr: I was able to pick the lock on the "back door" to gain entrance to the Folly. So I'm not sure the the current statement "There is no use trying to shortcut by storming the main gate of the pirates' camp alone, as the door to the stone fortress requires a key found inside the fortress" is correct. I managed to miss the whole fireball scene by running it this way.

When I got to the area on Adelaisa's ship, I jumped off the ship and swam to the docks. I had to deal with three Blood Horkers very close to the dock, and at least two more in the stockaded area between the docks and the Folly. When I got to the Folly door, it had a high-level lock (Master or Expert, I don't remember for sure), but it was pickable. That put me in the middle of the long hallway between the two towers. I went to the tower that Haldyn was not in first, took care of the Blood Horkers there, went into the Sea Cave, took care of the mudcrabs, and did not take the exit to Skyrim. I then went back into the Folly, into Haldyn's tower, and explored the lower levels, but didn't go into the locked room that Japhet is in. I went all the way to the top and killed Haldyn. I looted the key from him, then went back down into the basement of his tower, hoping it would open Japhet's room, but it did not, so I picked that lock and got the loot there.

My "Report back to Adelaisa" target was a plain arrow. I went back up to the "ground floor" of Haldyn's tower, and into the long hallway. I didn't try to go back outdoors through the door I picked to get in. There was now a cave-in near the far end of the hallway (where I was able to access the other tower at first), and Adelaisa was waiting by the cave-in. She gave me the "Let's go / Not yet" options, I picked "Let's go", and then got the load screen; when the load screen finished, we were back at the dock in Windhelm. I started to walk off of the boat, but she forced me into dialogue again, and gave me the same "Let's go / Not yet" options. I picked "Let's go" again, she exited the dialogue, and then I was able to walk into the East Empire office and finish the quest.

It may be that the lock was unpickable at one point, but was changed in an official patch. I'm not sure enough to edit the main article, but I figured I would note it here.

I am on PS3, 1.9.31.0.8, no mods. 73.3.58.200
