Skyrim talk:Onmund's Request

Staff IDEdit

I seemed to have sold the staff at some point... If anyone knows it's name or ID it would be greatly appreciated:D--Teol 01:34, 14 November 2011 (UTC)

Staff LocationEdit

It seems as though the staff location may be random. I had to find two staves for Enthir; one for Arniel's Endeavor, and one for Onmund's request. I'm not sure which staff was for which quest, as I received both locations at the same time, but the locations for the two staves were Yngvild and Harmugstahl. — Unsigned comment by Narsilion (talkcontribs) at 22:52 on 24 November 2011

I think I'm in the same scenario. Actually, I found one of the staves on my own before receiving either of these quests (saved Staff in stash). Once I received the two quests, only one location was marked on the map. Not sure yet if I'll be able to turn in both quests. Since I'm not the only one experiencing this, I'll add a note to the page explaining the same staff is used for this quest and Arniel's Endeavor. Krag 00:58, 19 January 2012 (UTC)
I've removed the above-mentioned note, as this appears to have been a misunderstanding. I believe Narsilion was getting the Grand Staff of Charming and the Staff of Tandil confused, while Krag happened upon a random Grand Staff of Charming that was unrelated to the quest, since they can appear randomly in addition to the one in Yngvild. I see no evidence in the CK that a Grand Staff of Charming is ever required for any quest except this one. Robin Hood  (talk) 08:52, 22 June 2016 (UTC)

GlitchEdit

I obtained two of these staves before starting the quest; however, they did not have weight (due to being a quest item) which counters what the "confirmed" glitch says. After completing the quest, they did gain their normal weight.

I just played through Yngvild while doing the quest to find the Helm of Winterhold. I picked up one of these staves in that dungeon, and I have never been to the College of Winterhold. The staff has weight and I can remove it from my inventory. So I don't think this glitch applies in every instance. Phaid 07:13, 12 December 2011 (UTC)

Weapon rack that worksEdit

This quest cost me almost seven thousand septims to complete. If there are any weapons racks out there that the player can use to fix the bug that someone knows about, could you add it to the workaround of the bug section please. I'd tried everywhere I could think of with a weapons rack, guard barracks, Northwatch Keep etc. and none of them worked. I guess you have to own the rack to put a weapon in it; by that logic you shouldn't be able to place junk into other people drawers/chests but anyway. I ended up having the buy that tumbledown shanty in Whiterun to get a weapons rack that would work...I was hoping to avoid buying that flophouse this time around but I'm not far enough along in other holds to buy a house in them.

Said fix did nothing for me. Weapons racks do nothing. Also, my glitch had 3 staves. One standing, 2 more in the chest. I'm advancing manually.

This (unsigned) note was under the Staff Location section. I hope I moved it to a more appropriate location. Krag 00:58, 19 January 2012 (UTC)
Are you asking if I added the above to the article? Nope, wasn't me. I stick the the discussion areas and don't touch the articles. Don't want to post anything in the improper format or location, and I don't actually have a user account here despite how long I've been coming around the wiki. Whomever it was though sounds like they had it worse off than I did; I only had one staff but I couldn't find anywhere to rack it & pick it back up to move the quest along. Feel free to leave it though, it's technically the same issue I had, absent the disdain for the sorry state of housing in Whiterun. Cheers --24.87.81.71 01:41, 1 February 2012 (UTC)

Bypassing most of the questlineEdit

If your speechcraft level is high enough (as it was in my case when I got the quest), you can convince Enthir to return the amulet. No need to look for a stave. Quest finished.

ok i had the staff of charming before i started the quest and its telling me still to go find it why cant i just hand it over to enthir. i tried to drop and pick it up so maybe it would work but you caant drop quest items! how do i get arond this so i can complete the quest??? help

just another locationEdit

Another location for the staff is Greywater Gorge.— Unsigned comment by 207.47.241.209 (talk) at 03:48 on 4 April 2012

Already noted, Greywater Gorge is another name the game uses for some reason for Sunderstone Gorge in Falkreath Hold. Lord Eydvar Talk|Contribs 02:36, 4 May 2013 (GMT)

Haemar's Shame -- lucky destination; Barbas is still there and helps you fight the vampiresEdit

I was sent to Haemar's Shame to retrieve the staff, and was a bit nervous about it, since when I did Clavicus Vile's quest the cave was filled with vampires and vampire thralls, some quite powerful. They were even more powerful this time, since my level was considerably above what it had been when I did A Daedra's Best Friend, but to my surprise, Vile's doggy sidekick Barbas was still in the cave and attacked the boss vampire at the entrance to the final chamber, killing two of his subordinates and holding the boss so that I could get an arrow into him. Barbas wouldn't talk though; there was no response when I hovered the cursor over him. The statue of Clavicus Vile was gone as well; I guess he was out playing tricks on someone. The staff was in the chest behind the statue, together with some excellent quality loot. You're lucky if you get sent here! 174.6.51.17 21:33, 28 September 2012 (GMT)

1.4 Official Skyrim Patch fix is inaccurate?Edit

Xbox360 Version 1.9.3 (there are more didgets here but are too small to make out on my tv!) and have picked up the staff from Sunderstone Gorge without this quest active, the staff has weight and can not be dropped/sold as is marked as quest item. If this was truly fixed as of 1.4 then something is amiss here. Either the info on this page regarding a fix is wrong or patches post 1.4 have reintroduced the problem. Anyone else corroborate this? EaglesDerbyUK (talk) 12:00, 19 June 2015 (UTC)

small addition here, the patch, upon closer inspection, deals with an issue where the quest would not start if the staff is found before receiving the quest from Onmund. Which makes the Bug fix listed on this page misleading with regards to the Quest Item/not Quest Item status of the staff, perhaps a little clarification is required. EaglesDerbyUK (talk) 14:18, 19 June 2015 (UTC)
The bug listed is more comprehensive than the patch notes, and could probably do with splitting up into the parts. There is the fix using weapon racks to remove it from your inventory. Silence is GoldenBreak the Silence 18:00, 19 June 2015 (UTC)
