Leveled DragonEdit

Dragon is most likely leveled to player, I encountered a frost dragon instead of a blood dragon. — Unsigned comment by 86.50.67.186 (talk) at 15:01 on 24 November 2011‎

Might be more random than that. Went there at lvl 42 and got a basic unnamed Dragon. It used a non-standard frost based shout, but wasn't anywhere near Elder or Ancient level. 91.153.142.40 16:44, 7 December 2011 (UTC)
Had kind of a weird experience here myself.... The dragon was perched on top of the word wall, and I began by shooting it with a bow that inflicts a 50 pt. magicka drain, poisoned with a potion that stopped magicka regeneration for over a minute afterward. The dragon made one attack on me (Ancient Dragon using a flame attack; I was Level 37), and then it literally ran away -- made a beeline for the horizon and never came back, even when I went down to the word wall and spent a long time there looking for a chest. I've never had a dragon just scamper like that, especially one that was a decent match for me. Perhaps it was the magicka drain? 174.6.51.17 08:29, 4 June 2012 (UTC)
Similar situation here, the first time I fought it it ran off, I was using a bound bow, no poison, no special effect but soul trap and banish daedra, from the perks, which would not have applied to the dragon anyway, it flew away, I grabbed the word from the wall and waited an hour, it returned, maybe it's a bug, or maybe something else, of note is that I have dragonborn installed, on a ps3, no other dlc. Bug?Edit

The bounty quest target is pointing around a nearby cave. I went to the mount, got the word, no dragon. — Unsigned comment by Daedalus (talkcontribs) at 01:46 on 6 December 2011

I had the same experience. I went to the mountaintop but there was no dragon. I seem to remember a dragon skeleton on the road to Winterhold a ways southeast, but I hadn't killed it, so I'm a little flabbergasted as to its disappearance. MethodicMockingbird 16:08, 1 January 2012 (UTC)

I went to Mount Anthor, met and killed Frost dragon, went up stairs for the word, no "flashing" like with the others, but i can here "burning" the rock like the other words, also the music is changing ... never had this kind of problem without patch, now i have v. 1.6. ... since patching the game, found a lots of bugs, this one is particularly annoying, had to use console to get the word — Unsigned comment by 88.83.169.27 (talk) at 09:53 on 15 November 2012
The burning sound indicates that you have already obtained the Shout afforded by this Word Wall. You may have simply forgotten your visit to this particular wall. I just went to a Word Wall that I had previously visited and killed a dragon for a bounty quest. I stood in from of the Wall and it is indeed making the normal burning sound, but alas, not new Shout is given. — Unsigned comment by 50.12.233.125 (talk) at 22:36 on 16 November 2012
The dragon probably gets stuck in somewhere underground, the reason why I think that is because it's nowhere to be seen around the quest marker and doesn't show up in detection spells, but it's not dead or disabled either. When it's the target of a bounty quest, it is easy to fix this problem, simply use the SQT console command to find its reference ID and then use PRID <Reference ID> and then RESETAI. Wait a few seconds and you'll hear it circling around Mount Anthor. --Kinlar (talk) 06:28, 30 May 2020 (UTC)

No Chest?Edit

Usually (always?) there is a chest at a dragon lair. Could not find one here. Did I miss it? --65.175.218.213 18:52, 8 December 2011 (UTC)

Not that I could find either but if you take the path to the east that heads up over the mountain, after you crest and start down look for a large rock on the right side, head south up this area then west doing a lot of rock climbing towards the peak. On the top head west till you see a un-mineable "Gold?" ore. Keep going west over the top of that crest and you'll get to a Dwarven statue with 2 chests guarded by a few Ice Wraiths. Not much loot but a fun challenge to get there. You can look right down on the Dragons perch near the un-mineable. (Philbert) — Unsigned comment by 174.102.140.128 (talk) at 00:34 on 27 February 2012
There are items on top of the middle Dwarven statue at the location mentioned above, although there doesn't appear to be any way to get them. Even by jumping on top of the taller of the two other pillars, it seems it's impossIble to find a way to the top of the middle Dwarven statue/pillar. (this is for PS3, unsure about other platforms) UPDATE: Used Fireball repeatedly aimed at the potiona and managed to get most of the potions off. Nothing of great value, but kind of fun getting them off. I think I hit a large health potion too close to the edge with too much power, and it went over the mountain, so be careful when trying to know it off. Might be fun to use arrows and see if it works. You can reach all those with telekinesis. -- 24.149.111.41 22:26, 23 April 2012 (UTC)
Or you can use Whirlwind Sprint. — Unsigned comment by 69.77.140.224 (talk) at 04:38 on 15 July 2012
I tried shooting the potions with some daedric arrows,,and Wow!!! the potions went flying so fast off the statue and shot straight across the area to the next mountain lol..great fun..I enjoyed myself immensely :) — Unsigned comment by 82.4.110.204 (talk) at 21:48 on 27 January 2013

Removed BugEdit

I undid this edit under the assumption that this could happen at all of the dragon summits done for whatever quest that this user got. However, I can't seem to find any related radiant quest. Is anyone aware of what radiant quest Esbern gives you that has you slay a specific dragon? --AKB Talk Cont Mail 02:20, 17 January 2012 (UTC)

No, but right after I did this one, word first then slayed the dragon, I got an update to see Esbern on killing the dragon. Level 64, main quest point Alduin's Bane (not done). In my Misc Quest journal is a new entry "Return to Esbern" that was definitely not there before. Dragon was Frost damage style but unnamed and showed as only "Dragon" when looting.(Philbert)
Found out this is the quest "Dragon Research." Philbert 01:45, 29 February 2012 (UTC)

Word Wall makes crackling noise, but no word?Edit

Encountered the dragon near Ironbind Barrow - the overlook section. Killed it. Found Mount Anthor. The wall makes a crackling noise continuously, but not doing the effect usually that accompanies Word walls. Amalyn 06:02, 2 February 2012 (UTC)

Not an uncommon bug, it seems. It's been reported on certain shout pages and Dragon Shouts, and their talk pages. No known solution, but the console can help learn the words if you're on PC. --Velyanthe 21:22, 2 February 2012 (UTC)

Encountering dragon after main questline completedEdit

I continue to encounter dragons in the wild and at dragon lairs at least 5 game days after completing the main questline. Some are respawned (no soul), and some result in a new soul absorbed, just as before completing the questline. Is the note about possibly not seeing a dragon here after completing the main questline true? --Xyzzy 05:51, 29 April 2012 (UTC)

Yeah, encountering dragons after completing the main quest is normal. I think the user who added that note was referring to this specific dragon for the instance of the bounty quest alone, and my guess is that they'd already cleared the area and that's what's causing it to be buggy for them— that's completely speculation, though. In any case, it really doesn't belong where it was placed on the page, so I've reworded it and moved it to the Bugs section (the VN tag is included in the Bug template). RespawnEdit

After killing the dragon at mount anthor does it respawn? Because if hasn't for about 30 in game day's for m.(PS3 version) — Unsigned comment by 2.51.103.16 (talk) at 10:10 on 19 June 2012

It did for me, although I'm not sure how long I went between killing the dragon the first time and it respawning. I think I have patch 1.8, if that's any help. 71.7.96.68 18:34, 1 May 2013 (GMT)

Pre-DragonsEdit

Added a single sentence about what's here pre-Dragon Rising. I myself got a Conjurer and a Novice Storm Mage at level 19, but I assume they are leveled. If anyone else would like to double check on their pre-DR game, that would be most welcome. 72.42.155.45 03:32, 15 October 2012 (GMT)

I also got an apprentice Conjurer and a novice Storm mage, but I was level 9. --Xyzzy Talk 03:51, 15 October 2012 (GMT)
Level 40 here, I got an Apprentice Storm Mage and a Master Conjurer. Tea vea (talk) 02:41, 12 November 2012 (GMT)

Lack of Treasure ChestEdit

Someone added a note to the article about the lack of a treasure chest here, and it was reverted as "irrelevant". I think that this is notable for this location as, to the best of my knowledge, every other dragon lair has a chest. Is this true, and if so, is it noteworthy? --Xyzzy Talk 14:00, 16 October 2012 (GMT)

I would agree that it's noteworthy for the reason you mentioned, if it's true. — ABCface 18:48, 16 October 2012 (GMT)
Of the eleven locations with the LocTypeDragonLair keyword, five of them have no BossContainer listed (Mount Anthor, Ancient's Ascent, Autumnwatch Tower, Bonestrewn Crest, and Shearpoint). However, the other four have non-boss chests: Ancient's Ascent, Autumnwatch Tower, Bonestrewn Crest, and Shearpoint. Mount Anthor has an urn with minor loot, but no chest. I'll re-add the note to the article, since Mount Anthor is the sole exception among dragon lairs, and therefore notable. — ABCface 19:42, 22 February 2013 (GMT)

() In my opinion, the lack of a chest with notable loot is made up for in the fact that not far away at Mount Anthor's Summit there is a Dwemer shrine with leveled loot in the chests there as well as the Dwarven Warhammer of Debilitation located on the shrine itself. — Unsigned comment by 108.56.195.72 (talk) at 21:05 on 11 June 2013

Kill Dragon at Mount Anthor Quest BugEdit

I got this quest from an innkeeper, went there, met a frost dragon that attacked me. During this battle the dragon did not land, making it a lenghty encounter. When it was at 50% health it flew away, and disappeared in mid-air, the quest marker blinked to different positions a couple of times, and now the dragon is gone. Quest marker took me to Markarth, but dragon isn't there, making the quest unfinishable. I read an article on a different site describing the exact same thing, so i assume it is a bug. — Unsigned comment by 77.172.125.107 (talk) at 08:42 on 19 September 2013

Explanation, as I mentioned in the notes. The dragon can get distracted by wolves and troll(s) on the pass to the east. Circling around there it will detect a more target rich environment at Fort Kastav. Heading over there takes it outside it's scripted range. It can disappear, or simply land near the fort and do nothing until the presence of your character activates it.Sniffles (talk) 06:33, 1 February 2014 (GMT)
My addition in the Notes section was removed. However, unlike all other dragons, this one commonly vanishes from the scene on a regular basis. Players, as several who queried this in this discussion page should check with the person who removed my addition instead pf relying on the regular wiki page.Sniffles (talk) 01:01, 2 February 2014 (GMT)
Vanishing and going to fight other creatures are completely different scenarios. If it vanishes then the quest cannot be completed. If it gets distracted there is no bug whatsoever, and the quest can be completed. The difference is insurmountable, one is a bug, the other is gameplay. For those having trouble with Dragons not spawning (PC only): Save your game. Open your console and type "player.movetoqt BQ04" (no quotes). You will be floating on mid air on a cell outside the map and immediately start falling to your death. The Dragon should be there. Quickly try to click on the Dragon so his ID appears on the console. Load your game and go to a isolated place where you can fight the Dragon. Open your console and type "moveto player" (again, no quotes). Bam, instant Dragon. Kill it and the quest should progress. Alternativelly, just type "setstage BQ04 100" on the console to move the quest forward. Skythunder (talk) 23:52, 25 April 2015 (GMT)
Ran into the same issue with this bounty quest. Marker points just NE of Mount Anthor, but there's no dragon. Fast-travel to Azura's Shrine and one did attack - but no credit given for that one. I tried "player.movetoqt BQ04" but that just crashes the game to desktop. "setstage BQ04 100" completes and finishes the quest, though. Can't believe I keep running into so many bugs even after fully patching. Thank you, Skythunder! 162.192.182.176 14:26, 3 September 2015 (UTC)

(PC) During the Companions Quest, "Dragon Hunting", there was no dragon at Mount Anthor or the vicinity. If the dragon does not appear, simply open the console(~), type, "prid 32ac2" enter, and, "moveto player" enter. The dragon should now be where you are.

SSE (Xbox/PS) FixEdit

If you are playing on the console version of SSE and therefore do not have access to console commands, there is a possible but difficult fix for the bug. You will notice there is a quest marker pointing towards Markarth, enter Markarth and you will see once inside another marker appears that apparently shows the dragon back at Mt Anthor. Instead of leaving through the door, you will need to glitch out of the city. This can be done with the classic wooden plate in the door trick, but its recommended to download the cheat room mod and use the TCL (noclip) cheat ring. Once outside the city you can head towards the quest marker, which should bring you to the dragon you need to kill. Unfortunately, the area around the dragon is not solid, as you are far away from the loaded area of Markarth. We will again utilize the TCL cheat ring to our advantage. By flying in the air and un-equipping the ring, you can temporarily use a shout. You can either use a damaging shout like fire breath, or use dragon rend and try and herd the dragon back towards solid land where you can kill it more traditionally.

NOTES:

This is the method I used for finding/killing the dragon, and is intended for console gamers who do not have access to console commands.

As far as I am aware this is the only known method for solving this glitch on the console version of SSE. You can of course kill the dragon however you find easiest, but I do not believe you can find him any other way.

I suggest using the 5x player speed cheat ring in combination with the TCL cheat ring. This will get you to your destination much faster. IMPORTANT: do not drop the rings while their effects are active or the effects will become permanent and you will have to restart your character. If you have to make any changes, return to the cheat room and unequip the rings, and drop them only after the effects are no longer applied. — Unsigned comment by 66.67.125.221 (talk) at 13:37 on 10 May 2023 (UTC)
