Skyrim talk:Maul

Unusual Gem points to him, but he hates my guts and is Essential (huh ?!?!)Edit

I haven't joined the Thieves Guild, and I am not sure I'd like to as they use too much of mafia methods for me (in Oblivion, they took care of the poor and such. I do not like this Thieves Guild)

Anyway, this guy hates my guts and he says so, and refuses to talk to me further. Probably because I've destroyed the Dark Brotherhood - don't know. Can't think of any other reason as I spoke to him first time I arrived in Riften and he said he'd be by the docks if I wanted to talk.

I never picked up the Unusual Gem in the house in Solitutde (as I suspected it would give me (yet) another quest. I already have so many) but I did find one of those gems in a cave, so I went ahead and picked it up. Now it points to this horrible man and he is not killable. (!?!) I've tried. I don't get any assault in my log, nor a bounty. A guard is right there and says "This should be interesting"

I really hate those quests when I'm being forced to do crimes, like stealing things (so I do people a favor in that city and can buy a house or be a Thane like Falkreath e.g. - sigh) and the one about the Thieves Guild which I tried to avoid but it popped up as a quest anyway, when I persuaded Brynjolf to let me know where Esbern was - I really do not appreciate that they've made it that way.

I do not wish to join that 'Mafia'. I guess this awful guy, Maul, might speak to me if I did but ...well, "former glory" (?), don't know what that's supposed to mean re: the Thieves Guild. If it means helping beggars etcetera OK, fine, but not through Mafia methods, No way!

I guess I'll just give him a punch for being such an annoying character, and then leave (just tell my follower to wait somewhere else first). Haha :P Tockenen 26 Dec 2011

He will probably attack you if you do and since he is essential you will be in a pretty pickle. I totally agree with you on all counts. I would not find it fun to join the thieves guild and toady for Maven. I also killed the assassins. I think it is annoying that you don't have a choice but to join the thieves and make Riften a worse place with no option of opposing them and making it better. What is up with that??? I found it much more fun actually to work outside the game and clean up Riften unofficially by cleaning up that rat's nest under riften of the thieves guild and taking Maven and her family out as well. I had to use console commands to make them non essential.. and then I operated at night, like dexter or batman to take them out one by one. LOL! MY Riften is a nice town again.. although the people in it will never know it cause the game does not expect you to do that.
do a search for the id of the immortal two-bit hood you want to take out and use the setessential (Id number of the character) 0 command in console mode of the pc. be prepared for this to wipe out any thieves guild quests for the rest of the game. Worth it in my opinion. — Unsigned comment by 67.142.168.21 (talk) at 00:00 on 1 February 2012
