Bad pic of him, he is missing his right arm. — Unsigned comment by 86.182.160.193 (talk) at 09:51 on 21 November 2011

Actually he's holding a cup while taking a drink! So he does have his right arm still. — Unsigned comment by 99.96.126.223 (talk) at 16:12 on 25 November 2011

Bug & FixEdit

This glitch happened with Marcurio, but it can happen to any companion. If you tell your follower to "wait here" and you're in an illegal area you may get the dialogue "You're not supposed to be here" when you try and get him to follow you again. The result is you can never get him to follow you anymore since you don't have any dialogue options! the fix: punch your follower until he leaves your service, then immediately re-hire him. solves the problem.

-Thinkpadius — Unsigned comment by 72.37.242.35 (talk) at 04:10 on 30 November 2011

I had this problem too! I told Marcurio to wait by the door after lockpicking my way in and now he just keeps telling me, "I'm not supposed to be in here." Boo!
-Kisalyn — Unsigned comment by 74.137.227.30 (talk) at 01:44 on 18 December 2011
You should also be able to get them to leave you're service by leaving the cell then waiting a certain amount of time, after which you will receive the message that they have left your service. You can then return to the location where you found them and re-recruit them. ---Gamer3427 21:55, 30 April 2012 (UTC)

Quotes after marriage ?Edit

The "qutes prior to marriage" section leaves me expecting a similar set of quotes after marrige. Could someone add it? — Unsigned comment by 212.71.91.40 (talk) at 02:47 on 5 December 2011

After you marry him he still says the same things when you command him as a follower. The quotes title has already been edited, but I thought I'd just confirm here, there is no alternate set of dialogue for bossing him around. You do get the standard marriage dialogue for options that are unlocked by being married, like asking him to cook for you. EmmBee 02:29, 7 January 2012 (UTC)

Not essential...(??)Edit

I tested, and just killed him since he wasn't on the list at/on the Essential page. Does anyone know if that's a bug or should he killable? (well, I will reload the game as I think he's a great follower - and it would have been great if he wasn't killable. I could marry him and he'd be my best mate ever LOL :D ) Thanks :-) PS: I'm on the (non-updated through Live) Xbox 360 Tockenen 08:37, 11 December 2011 (UTC)

It's not a bug. My understanding is that all followers are semi-essential, and while they can die, it has to involve certain circumstances. The first one is you, as the player, can always kill them. So your test results are not a surprise. While it's much more rare, they can also be killed if they are bent over, and still take damage, such as from an AoE spell, or if the mob doesn't change target because you are hidden. EmmBee 02:29, 7 January 2012 (UTC)

Buggy AIEdit

After hiring Marcurio and feeling fairly impressed with him as a follower, shocking and roasting my enemies, we reached a pint where he simply stopped doing anything to help out in a fight. He wouldn't cast spells. He wouldn't defend himself when attacked.  ??? I'm not sure what happened, or if this happens periodically with any follower from time-to-time, but I hope it isn't a permanent glitch!--24.43.87.114 15:52, 20 December 2011 (UTC)

I've had the same problem with other followers. What I did was tell them to part ways, save and quit the game, then reload the save and go to have them follow me again. Worked fine (on PC). Voraxith 19:26, 5 January 2012 (UTC)
It happens with all followers. They get stuck. Try going to a different area and then moving them to you. If memory serves, this usually fixes it. --67.248.246.4 20:57, 15 March 2012 (UTC)

New Spells?Edit

Is it possible to trade him Spell Tomes and make him learn it (Without Console)?- Azurome 09:56, 7 January 2012 (UTC)

Of course not. VycDarkshadow (talk) 01:41, 13 December 2012 (GMT)
It is possible with the UFO (Ultimate Follower Overhaul) mod. You should look for it on Skyrim Nexus :) -MasterSuicune — Unsigned comment by 69.165.193.8 (talk) at 15:16 on 23 August 2013

marcurio diedEdit

I married marcurio and he died how do i get married again? — Unsigned comment by 98.213.24.94 (talk) at 17:09 on 8 January 2012 (GMT)

I'm pretty sure you can only get married once, sorry. You might be able to use the console to get married again but I'm not sure.RIM 17:34, 8 January 2012 (UTC)
You can always open console, click on Marcurio's body and type resurrect... --Arkhon 02:48, 17 January 2012 (UTC)
Actually another console command that doesn't require the body is recycleactor. Just make sure you have the right prid. Also, you can move him to you if you can't find him after. 108.180.175.37 17:54, 5 May 2013 (GMT)

The BladesEdit

It mentions that yes he can become a Blade, however what happens to his attire? That is, does the Blades Armor mean he will no longer equip robes and other mage-like equipment? Also, in this vein, how would one go about enchanting his Blades Armor, in case he cannot be convinced to wear robes again? 68.54.41.217 22:00, 24 January 2012 (UTC) Tomahawk

Typically Mage followers who become members of the Blades will no longer equip mage armor, as they consider the Blades armor "better." As for enchanting his Blades' armor, that won't work. You can't take a follower's default armor, and followers made into Blades will have their default set to be Blades' armor. The only workaround for this I can think of is to possibly get Pickpocketing up to 100 and take the Perfect Touch perk so that you could steal his default equipment from him. You could then try enchanting it and reverse-pickpocketing it back onto him all without leaving the cell, (which would cause him to respawn a new set of armor). I have no idea if this would actually work though, (could someone test this theory?), and I'm sure that if you're playing on the PC then there is probably an easier method using console commands. (I play on the 360, so I am unable to use console commands.) ---Gamer3427 22:38, 30 April 2012 (UTC)

Won't Equip Everything...Edit

So, I've married Marcurio and I take him along on quests now. He will equip everything else I give him, but staves from what I noticed. If a staff is the only weapon in his inventory, he will not use it. Instead, he'll spawn up a bow and arrow. Not sure if this is a glitch or what? FYI, I'm on the PS3. Breetastic 12:48, 30 January 2012 (UTC)

He won't use any given staves, what's more annoying - he won't equip magic robes neither... --Arkhon 01:39, 3 March 2012 (UTC)
Odd, he seems to use any staves I give him. I have a couple mods that alter some follower behavior but I'm pretty sure he was using staves before I added them. Staves I know he has equipped in my game include those for summoning familiars and atronachs, raising zombies/corpses, and a variety of the Destruction ones. In fact, even if he has the Staff for a particular kind of Destruction attack for which he already knows the spell, he will often use the staff instead of casting. I wasn't sure he would use them but I gave him some to carry because I was loaded down, we got in a fight and suddenly there's a Storm Atronach in the fight and I think "uh oh" and then I realize that it's Marcurio's and I'd given him the staff for summoning it. I'm afraid to give him the Sanguine Rose for fear we'll get a ham-slicing dremora for every trio of wolves we encounter, lol. I don't think I've given him any Illusion staves, things that are for calming and whatnot because I worry that he'll use them and I won't notice and won't realize what's going on when the other NPCs are affected by it. Might be fun to try later on with the currect character though just to see what happens. --Lyn1964 05:17, 20 March 2012 (UTC)
It may be because of your mods. I don't use any mods at all and he never used any staves that I gave him. --Arkhon 19:01, 23 March 2012 (UTC)
It's possible since I can't pinpoint the first time I noticed him using a stave, but I've had Marcurio as a follower almost constantly for two characters now, and as far back as I can remember he's always used Destruction and Conjuration staves if I gave them to him. And I didn't add any follower mods until recently. Even Vilkas used staves if I gave them to him, I had him for a follower/spouse with my first character. In fact I had to stop giving them to him just to carry because he would always try to use them and he was not good at it, lol. I was using not follower mods then so I know that not equipping staves is not a problem for followers per se... can't imagine why Vilkas would be likely to use one and an actual mage NPC wouldn't, but then stranger things have happened. --Lyn1964 16:31, 26 March 2012 (UTC)
Marcurio does use staves in vanilla game. However, he only equips them during combat. I've used Marcurio for about 45 levels and in my experience he uses staves quite smartly - for example, he often summons a familiar/Atronach to tank for him during combat against mobs. He seems to prefer the Conjure Storm Atronach and the Dragon Priest Staff (Flame Wall) over all the other staves I've given him. --Isenmir 17:35, 19 November 2012 (UTC)
This is false, at least for Skyrim SE PS4. I tried it with 3 different staves and he never used them, not even in combat. --RSOblivion 02:05, 20 April 2021 (UTC)

Marcurio disappears from gameEdit

I asked Marcurio to leave while I was going through Avanchnzel and when I left and returned to Riften, he was not there. I keep going back, but he is there. I have searched everywhere, but there is no body and I can't find him anywhere. So what do I do? Did he just disappear from the game or am I not looking hard enough? Has this happened to anyone else?--151.199.61.29 18:11, 6 February 2012 (UTC)bepease2269

Sometimes they take a really long time to walk back to their "residence". I had this happen with Jordis once, only to run into her on the road leading from Solitude. If he still doesn't show up after a while, there's one possibility you could try, but only if you're on PC. Hit the tilde key (~) to open the console, and type player.moveto 000B9986. This should take you to wherever he is at the time.Voraxith 19:55, 6 February 2012 (UTC)

Stuck CrawlingEdit

I had a problem/bug with Marcurio not getting back up after he took enough damage to put him down on one knee. He followed me right through a dungeon crawling along like that. I checked a few follower pages and found this happening with others, so anybody keeping track of this can add Marcurio. I fixed him by hitting him in the face with my bow (left button, PC) :) Ashvelvyn 19:48, 18 February 2012 (UTC)

A mild Unrelenting Force can fix that too.Aurora1983 09:40, 30 March 2012 (UTC)

Quiet after marriage?Edit

I'm sure anyone who's had Marcurio as a follower has noticed that he's rather chatty, commenting on ruins, caves, enemies etc. However, he seems to stop doing that should the player marry him (360). He now only says the standard stuff you'd expect from any follower; such as commenting on spectacular views or dangerous situations, with no random dialogue unique to him. Has that happened to anyone else? It's happened to me now on two separate games, although thankfully this time I saved it just before initiating the "interest" dialogue and tested it for a while afterwards. Guess I'm not marrying him, since that's the appeal of his character for me. --90.197.64.93 23:33, 7 April 2012 (UTC)

Ditto for me. I married him with my first character, but have kept him strictly as a follower on the current playthrough. One of the first things I noticed is how he seems to have a *lot* more frequent and varied dialogue when out adventuring as a follower than he did as a follower/spouse. I swear I've heard him say hilarious (IMO) stuff on this playthrough that he never said the first time around, when I married him very early on. It's like marrying him blocked out a good portion of his best follower dialogue, and it was his snarky wit and timing that attracted me to him in the first place. (Case in point - after clearing out a large Forsworn camp, he's off doing the ranged magic thing, I'm plowing through with melee weapons, after it's all over I'm standing there surrounded by dead bodies and he runs up and stops and says, completely deadpan... "These Forsworn don't even have the decency to dress right." I had to pause the game I was laughing so hard.) Anyway, I guess it's true what they say, once you tie the knot, the "spark" just dies. :P --Lyn1964 20:33, 9 April 2012 (UTC)
The same thing happened to me. His comments were so much more varied before I married him.The Cowardly Adventurer 02:25, 13 August 2012 (UTC)
I searched online, and apparently he goes quiet after marriage because he doesn't get added to the CurrentHireling faction anymore when you ask him to follow. The discussion I found (which I can't find again, unfortunately), suggests using the targeted console command "addfac bd738 2" to fix this. This worked in my game, but I have to use it every time I ask him to follow. The Cowardly Adventurer (talk) 17:37, 26 January 2014 (GMT)

Marcurio's WeaponEdit

The starting weapon is currently listed as a Dwarven Dagger, however Marcurio has started with a leveled unenchanted weapon each time, for me. Depending when I first enter Riften, at higher levels he starts with a glass dagger. I have not tested the possibilities, just noticed him starting with a glass dagger on a few occasions. The G00D Job 08:45, 22 April 2012 (UTC)

I went ahead and updated his weapon. I'm not sure if it is determined the first time you enter Riften or the first time you enter The Bee and Barb, since Marcurio never leaves the tavern without being hired I would imagine it is in fact TBAB. Though, not a major detail, I feel this should be tested (eventually). The G00D Job 08:50, 22 April 2012 (UTC)

Help plz!!!!Edit

I had been doing a quest( to find the geirmund or what ever its called), and we came upon a group/camp of enemies.... and we could kill everybody except for this one guy, who wouldnt die... he would just lay there on his hand and knees whenever I happened to try to kill him. So I tried to leave, but Marcurio wouldnt come... he would just stay there until the guy had enough health to stand up again. So I went by myself to my destination... hoping that he would go where I was when I entered in.... but he didnt... so im just asking if anyone know of the camp that does this... and where are some places that you can accidentaly leave your followers? Thx!plz reply!!!! — Unsigned comment by 24.164.12.232 (talk) at 09:09 on 21 November 2012

Well, it sounds like you ran across an essential NPC, but without more information, it's hard to say which one. eshetalk 15:14, 21 November 2012 (GMT)

Marcurio Missing Before MarriageEdit

So I was about to marry Marcurio and waited outside the temple until it was time to get married, however when I went inside he wasn't there and he missed the entire ceremony which made the priests think that I skipped the wedding. I went to go find him except he is missing from the Bee and Barb and he is not in the temple — Unsigned comment by 71.11.192.48 (talk) at 18:14 on 15 December 2012 (GMT)

I just came on here to investigate the exact same occurrence. My (xbox based) female imperial had him as a follower, and then decided to marry, so on the day it popped up saying 'Your Follower leaves for your wedding' and I went in. He wasn't there, leaving me alone to my disappointingly empty service. I waited in one hour increments for him, until the Failed Quest notification came through. For the role play in this character I need him as a spouse, so if anyone can think of a fix that is applicable to consoles, please share it! MadAndyD (talk) 20:31, 13 April 2013 (GMT)

Carry WeightEdit

An anon just posted on his notes section that he is only able to carry 73 weight total. Can anyone check this since I'm positive this is incorrect and have removed the entry from the content page until this can be checked out. Lord Eydvar Talk|Contribs 08:41, 7 March 2013 (GMT)

It could easily be correct. Every NPC appears to be able to carry 200 pounds, and their gear is subtracted from that. Therefore, if the NPC is wearing heavy armor, and has a fairly heavy weapon, 73 pounds doesn't seem to be completely unreasonable.... Jeancey (talk) 08:44, 7 March 2013 (GMT)
But we are talking about Marcurio here, he only carries some clothing and a leveled dagger Dawn (talk) 08:47, 7 March 2013 (GMT)
Yeah I know that on some of the heavy armor ones that could be the case but as Marcurio only wears robes his carry weight should be well over 150. So unless the anon had him in like Daedric armor or something that would be incorrect unless he's bugged. Hence my removing the edit. Lord Eydvar Talk|Contribs 08:49, 7 March 2013 (GMT)

Blades/MarriageEdit

If I'm married to Marcurio and get him to join the blades, does he stay married to me? and does the shop thing we apparently have still make money? — Unsigned comment by 70.49.106.152 (talk) at 11:19 on 14 June 2013

Yes, to both questions. — ABCface 01:06, 15 June 2013 (GMT)

Marcurio as a spouse followerEdit

So I hired Marcurio and I liked him so I married him and now the option to have him as a follower has dissapeared! I'm really dissapointed about this because he was a good follower. Has this happened to anybody else and is there a way to fix it? — Unsigned comment by 173.53.40.239 (talk) at 21:07 on 22 June 2013 (GMT)

Marcurio is rudeEdit

I've married him and right now he's in my house at Whiterun. I'll tell him to follow me but he'll reply with something like "Don't run into any filthy skeever dens" or something of the sort and wont follow me but I still have the option to tell him to unfollow me. everything else is normal, he still gives me money from the shop, tells me about the children, etc. is there a way I can fix this? he was a bomb follower. (if you get him in daedric armor and a good staff he blows through everything.) — Unsigned comment by 174.24.215.41 (talk) at 19:05 on 22 September 2013‎

Marcurio wont follow me after marriage? And wont come to live with me.Edit

So after I married marcurio, he says a quote like "We're married! I guess we'll have to talk about our living arrangements. You could always live me me!" So I press A to talk to him, (I'm on xbox not pc), and he says the same thing, although he adds, "Oh, but you have children, so we'll have to make room for them somewhere." Or something like that. It won't bring up the chat thing to even talk about living arrangements OR the option to have him follow me. — Unsigned comment by 174.127.152.56 (talk) at 16:36 on 12 March 2014‎

Sometimes you can fix things like this by trying one or more of the following:
  • Fast-traveling away from his location, then back
  • Leaving the zone he is in, using the wait function for 24 hours, then going back and talking to him
  • Striking him with a 3-word Unrelenting Force
  • Attacking him until he turns hostile (i.e. punching him), then yielding
  • Shooting him with the Staff of Sheogorath.
If none of these work to reset him, other people may have other ideas you could try. These are just a few off the top of my head. --Xyzzy Talk 01:36, 13 March 2014 (GMT)

Attacking without being provokedEdit

For some reason he keeps on attacking me when I walk into the bee and barb. I don't have a bounty there and yet he won't stop. I tried the stopcombat console command and ever killing and resurrecting him won't work. Can anyone help me out here? — Unsigned comment by 108.5.155.77 (talk) at 17:48 on 5 June 2014

What platform are you playing? Do you have any mods or unofficial patches installed? —MortenOSlash (talk) 18:39, 19 June 2014 (GMT)

Name Calling and Wont FollowEdit

So, I was married to Marcurio with two children but made poor building decisions and I wanted to rebuild. I read that I could uninstall and reinstall the DLCs to be able to rebuild. So I did just that. I think I did it correctly because up until now, the game wasnt glitchy. Now that I have tracked down Marcurio the only option I have when I talk to him is to follow me. When I ask him to follow me his response is that I already have someone following me, which I do not! It seems we are not married but I have the bond of matrimony ring and even with the amulet of Mara on, I cannot pursue anyone else! Any ideas???? — Unsigned comment by 24.166.116.143 (talk) at 03:45 on 5 March 2015 (GMT)

And.. hes doing this weird thing where if I look at him he calls me cheese head or skeever butt and he sounds like hes talking through a megaphone???? Weirdest thing! — Unsigned comment by 24.166.116.143 (talk) at 03:48 on 5 March 2015 (GMT)
It may or may not be the reinstalling. Games turn out unpredictable when you do things the developers have not planned for you to do. It may also be additional things. Are you playing PC? If so, do you have any mods of unofficial patches installed? Those can add to unpredictable behaviour too. —MortenOSlash (talk) 05:36, 5 March 2015 (GMT)
The voices are from this shout. —Legoless (talk) 09:49, 5 March 2015 (GMT)
Seems according to the talk page there that this is a bug that occurs due to mods, console commands and such out of normal gameplay actions, especially if marriage is ended by it. No solution, though. —MortenOSlash (talk) 16:09, 5 March 2015 (GMT)
I am playing on PS3. The unistall must have screwed things up. Dont know how to fix! Really want to rebuild!!!! Is there a way to adopt kids without a spouse????? — Unsigned comment by 24.166.116.143 (talk) at 18:29 on 5 March 2015 (GMT)

() I am afraid you will have to reload an old save before you uninstalled the DLC and start again, stuck with your former building decisions. —MortenOSlash (talk) 19:25, 5 March 2015 (GMT)

Thanks for the help guys! I was able to adopt children. Im happy enough with that. Thanks again! — Unsigned comment by 24.166.116.143 (talk) at 01:01 on 6 March 2015 (GMT)
