Skyrim talk:Liberation of Skyrim

How to do this pageEdit

The rest of the quests in the stormcloak line, are subquests of this quest, i was planning on making sections for each hold, putting links to the quests and adding some information in, but i would gladly welcome any advice. (Eddie The Head 09:54, 24 November 2011 (UTC))

---Your not able to advance in the story without first completing the "sub quests" can you? If not then I think they are crucial to the whole "Stormcloaks" Story and the whole area of reporting back to Ulfric after the "Sub Quests" should have a different page. I went skimming through this page to the end of the quests and was really confused thinking it would have something about "Liberating Skyrim" etc.
Just My opinion. Peace. Jonny Bravo 28/12/11 — Unsigned comment by Jonny Bravo (talkcontribs) at 05:22 on 28 December 2011 (UTC)

ObjIDEdit

Seems to be cwObj (same as Skyrim:Reunification of Skyrim). I have this quest now and searched for all IDs in showquesttargets, and after this was the only one left, I movetoqt cwobj and landed next to the camp. How can I find out the stages? I have a small problem with galmar being absent..Hragall 21:23, 25 November 2011 (UTC)

EDIT: bug and marker can be ignored, go to Skyrim:Rescue_from_Fort_Neugrad and the quest starts there. Hragall 22:11, 25 November 2011 (UTC)

concurrent quest idsEdit

the ids for the fort subquests are "fortsiegefort" and the cities are "siegeobj" without the CW I may have a spelling error since I am posting this after I finished the quests. I felt I should put it under the main quest instead of making sections under all the concurrent quests also I can report a bug for those of us who use movetoqt regularly sometimes the concurrent quests will not show up on the map for me anyway and (I believe its Galmar who is under the tents correct me if I'm wrong) who will somtimes not display the "Reporting in." dialog option when teleporting back to camp a fix for both which is ironic is to teleport to an area where you enter and exit a door then the issue seems to fix its self. — Unsigned comment by Jfmherokiller (talkcontribs) at 05:36 on November 27, 2011 (UTC)

Important bug fixEdit

I spent a lot of time figuring out how to fix this quest chain when the Haafingar portion of it did not complete when completing the concurrent quest.

After completing "The Battle for Fort Hraggstad" and handing it in, type setstage CWsiegeobj 1 This starts the next quest in the series - The assault on solitute. This way you miss out on no content, as this is the next quest in the series (which i was otherwise unable to obtain) and completion of this quest will complete the "Liberation of Skyrim" chain aswell.

Someone who knows the editing procedures for wikis please put this in :) Thanks.

On a side note - the only two stages for "Liberation of Skyrim" are 0 and 255 for some reason, so you cannot just manually complete the second last objective if this bug occurs. — Unsigned comment by 58.7.192.235 (talk) at 22:22 on November 30, 2011 (UTC)

What about the Pale?Edit

Never got the Compelling Tribute quest before "A False Front." Now after Fort Snowhawk, I'm being sent to The Pale. — Unsigned comment by Tiger8u2 (talkcontribs) at 06:07 on 10 December 2011 (UTC)

did you complete Season Unending and have to do the negotiations? I think that adds another quest, ill start testing that, but itll take a few days. (Eddie The Head 06:16, 10 December 2011 (UTC))
I did Season Unending and allowed the Imperials to have the Rift. Not sure if that changed things. Now I've been sent to help take over Fort Dunstad. Quest was added "The Battle for Fort Dunstad." --Tiger8u2 06:02, 15 December 2011 (UTC)
Completed The Battle for Fort Dunstad and when sent to Ulfric he gave me an Elven sword and told me to go regain the Rift. He also said he held me personally responsible. (This no doubt because I negotiated giving the Rift to the Empire during the "Season Unending" negotiations.) It's obvious that the choices made during that quest alter the order of the Stormcloak/Imperial quests. That is of course if you do the negotiations before doing the liberation quests. --Tiger8u2 06:25, 16 December 2011 (UTC)
thanks for the info, im busy on recreating my main character that i saved over, but ill get to this eventually. (Eddie The Head 07:19, 16 December 2011 (UTC))

The RiftEdit

OK....was sent to the Rift Stormcloak Camp just NE of Sarethi Farm. Galmar Stone-Fist is there and after "Reporting in" he tells me to join my brothers preparing to attack Fort Greenwall. Fort Greenwall is located SE of Shor's Stone. Quest added "The Battle For Fort Greenwall" --Tiger8u2 06:41, 20 December 2011 (UTC)

Galmar dialog bugEdit

Galmar was missing the option for "Reporting In" which is needed to advance to the Fort Neugrad quest. I waited and waited, and went back to Ulfric to see if I missed anything, but didn't.

Then found out that Galric only had that option when he was standing with his hands on the table, on the right side of the table (right-side as you're in the door of the tent, facing in). When he was walking around, or had his hands on the left side, it wasn't there. One of the more strange bugs I've come across.

Not sure if this is common. If alot of people encounter this, it might be worth adding to the article. — Unsigned comment by Trep35 (talkcontribs) at 03:41 on December 24, 2011 (UTC)

Just confirmed this on the Xbox. I had to wait until Galric took his hands off the table before I could "report in". — Unsigned comment by 69.254.132.187 (talk) at 01:10 on December 31, 2011 (UTC)
The same thing happened to me, during the part where I was first supposed to report to Galmar. The only way he would let me report in was to talk to him while he was leaning on the right side of the table -- just as explained in this topic. 360 version, by the way. --Bippo Ernesti 16:54, 1 January 2012 (UTC)
Same for PS3 version. Returning to Windhelm doesn't work, but waiting for Galmar to get off the map got the quest kickstarted. — Unsigned comment by 68.184.157.48 (talk) at 00:51 on January 9, 2012 (UTC)
Honestly, thank the Nine for this page. I'm usually a player who keeps all their saves since the start, but just recently I cleaned out my save files, so when this bug happened (on the Xbox) I couldn't backtrack. After reading the suggestions on this page and the other Elder Scrolls Wiki (I'm not sure if posting the link would be violating any UESP rules) and I tried them all; nothing worked; somewhere suggested that you kill Galmar, but because he's essential, he'll get back up and reset his dialogue options, but it didn't work. So, I fast traveled to Windhelm from the Hjallmarch Stormcloak camp, saved there, and restarted my Xbox. When I came back, I fast traveled back to the camp, but Galmar still didn't have the options. I tried killing him to reset his options again, and lo and behold, this time it worked. I've never heard of a restart fixing a bug fix, but it worked. And, for those who want to try this method, a suggestion: when you kill him, make sure you can kill him in one hit with sneak attack bonuses, and do it while hidden, to avoid bounty from assault. When he gets back up, he won't be hostile (and hopefully have the correct dialogue!). Scum 00:38, 18 February 2012 (UTC)
(EDIT) Be aware that for me, the very next time I had to report in, I had to "kill" him again to get the dialogue option. You will probably have to fix this bug more than once. Scum 00:57, 18 February 2012 (UTC)
Not sure if this will help anyone but I've been having the same problems. He was being buggy throughout my whole Liberation of Skyrim quest line. But prior to Haafingar, the solution was usually just re-initiate a conversation with him. I even had one time where I started a conversation and within a few seconds of his speech, the dialogue option "reporting in" just appeared out of no where. Anyway, this has by far my worse case. When I reached the camp a dragon started flying overhead. The type that wouldn't start or let me Dragonrend it. Pretty annoying, so I waited a few hours to let the dragon pass and then talked to him. And he just wouldn't give me the dialogue option. Waited a few hours (in game of course), then twenty-four, killed him over and over again; nothing. I then went back to Windhelm and talked to Ulfric about becoming a thane and how the war was going. I came back to the camp and then two dragons attacked. Killed them both and then talked to Stone-Fist outside of his hut and he gave me the dialogue option. In short, my guess is the initial dragon messed with his dialogue choices somehow. However I'm still not sure if what I did, or any combination of what I did, had any impact on him at all. — Unsigned comment by 69.205.180.81 (talk) at 03:20 on 25 February 2012 (UTC)
encountered this bug to on liberate hjaalmarch part. exactly what resolved it idk. did a sneak kill on him, didnt work. fast traveled to king, talked with him, nothing really new though a white version of "how goes the war" came up after going through a greyed out version. fast traveled back and got "a false front" quest right away. surely it was a combination of sneak kill and talking with king that triggered it, maybe fast travel. most scary bug iv met in game yet :/ — Unsigned comment by Ible (talkcontribs) at 14:58 on 30 November 2012 (UTC)
I would like to add that I also encountered this bug at the Liberation of Hjaalmarch point in the quest. I should also mention I had completed "Season Unending" prior to beginning this quest. After trying every method possible that I've read online, both here and elsewhere, nothing worked. After hours of frustration I finally tried one last idea. I decided to skip the checking in dialogue with Galmor and traveled to Rorikstead. Lo and behold, the Imperial Courier was there! I killed him, took the orders, and "A False Front" flagged. I was then able to progress as normal. So, while I had similar issues during my first play through doing the Imperial quests, this could be a possible work around for the dialogue bugs. Just possibly skip it and go on to the next sub-objective of the following quests. I hope this will help others, as deep into a play through, this was massively aggravating. Glowworm (talk) 00:04, 15 June 2015 (UTC)
After grinding through the war with above tips, plus setstage commands and reloads, was close to giving up during liberation of Haafingar, of course the issue was solved by Galmar not resting on the table but being diagonally next to it, at the back of the tent.. hope this helps Stuyb (talk) 09:11, 13 November 2017 (UTC)

Thane after Fort NeugradEdit

I don't know if it's because I've not done season unending yet, I've not even done diplomatic immunity, but I became Thane after Fort Neugrad. I also received a steel sword at level 37 for completion of this objective. It seems leveled rewards are actually random rewards leveled up to your current level. The steel sword was a shocker seeing as I got an ebony sword of blaze for the previous objective. Quest Marker Bug???Edit

Ok so I am up to the conquering Solitude part and all of a sudden the quest marker takes me into Potemas crypt!??!? Just looked up and its a completely different random quest I don't even have in my Journal... What I am going to do is just have the marker for Battle for Skyrim open and load an old save. — Unsigned comment by 121.221.228.26 (talk) at 02:38 on January 15, 2012 (UTC)

General Tullius: To Kill / Not to Kill / Quest RewardEdit

Main page says you get a leveled sword if you do not kill the General. I made a save before, and received the same sword giving Ulfric the "honor," or killing him myself. Seems to have no effect on reward, just player preference - or does this choice affect anything else (future NPC interactions)? Motion to confirm and either revise or remove that note. • S1D3WYZ 11:40, 27 January 2012 (UTC)

As a side note, Ulfric says "Make it a good kill" so one of the times I tried to Grand Heal General Tullius before killing him. Grand Heal killed him! lol! • S1D3WYZ 20:42, 27 January 2012 (UTC)
I can confirm that the leveled sword is awarded if the player kills the General. --Velyanthe 20:21, 3 February 2012 (UTC)

Can't start questEdit

(PS3) I completed Battle for Whiterun with no problems, and Liberation of Skyrim begins, with the first objective to inform Ulfric of the sucess at Whiterun. I head to Windhelm, find Ulfric with the quest marker over his head, but there is no option to talk to him about Whiterun. I've tried all the options several times. I've tried re-doing the battle for Whiterun a few times. I've tried hitting Ulfric a few times too. Nothing seems to bring up any new dialogue options! Please help! — Unsigned comment by 2.220.137.222 (talk) at 12:55 on January 27, 2012 (UTC)

(360) Same problem. I tried finishing the main quest line, installing all the add-ons, this quest is still bugged in ver 1.9.31.0.8 and I haven't found anyway to fix it. — Unsigned comment by 69.181.128.18 (talk) at 02:25 on 11 September 2013 (UTC)
(PC) Same deal. Installed all updates and can not report to Ulfric. I haven't found a fix either. — Unsigned comment by 50.8.66.74 (talk) at 10:34 on 12 February 2014 (UTC)
360 9/2/2014 - UPDATE: The only fix I found was to completely restart the game, then I made completing this quest line a first priority. This bug seemed to not appear and the bug involving the inability to free the prisoners in the previous quest fort was also fixed. All other posted solutions did not help. Restarting the game was the only solution. — Unsigned comment by 75.1.183.108 (talk) at 02:33 on 3 September 2014 (UTC)
I don't know if this makes any difference, but I did not fast travel at all while doing this quest line. I used a horse to travel the whole way. Like I said, I don't know if it made any difference, but I was able to progress past the bugged portions. — Unsigned comment by Satxflyguy (talkcontribs) at 03:02 on 3 September 2014 (GMT)

Fort Snowwhawk and The Rift bugs! need help!Edit

(Xbox 360) Got the very same issue as the guy above, time ago I had no problem with this but when I started "Fight for Fort Snowhawk" imperials wouldn't spawn, I searched and searched but found no way of fixing it, so I reloaded a previous save and kept on playing other side quests, now Ulfric found me inside his castle and asked me to join "The Battle for Whiterun". I simply gave 0 importance to this. Later I saw that Whiterun vanishes from the map until you complete the quest, now it got very annoying and whenever i finish the quest Ulfric simply has no option to "Report in". Somebody please help us out here! -EDIT-: Not sure why but I could get over this new problem of reporting in, but now, once more Fort Snowhawk is completely bugged and not allies nor enemies spawn. Found a way to sort this though (fight with the Jarl of Morthal till she goes on one knee, this makes the quest complete) but you can't get further in the story line, The Rift in my case, Galmar doesn't have the "reporting for duty" dialog. Please please I need help, this is really driving me nuts — Unsigned comment by 181.14.129.57 (talk) at 06:37 on 24 February 2012 (UTC)

I've got virtually the same issue, my commiserations, hopefully someone figures this one out. — Unsigned comment by 69.230.69.91 (talk) at 08:25 on 6 June 2012 (UTC)

Wiping out the remaining ImperialsEdit

After finishing the quest line, both Ulfric and Galmar tell you "you know what to do" with the remaining Imperial Camps, should you encounter any. However, the chiefs of those camps still are flagged Essential even after the quest, which means you can't really honor Ulfrics request. Does this make any sense, or is this just a minor oversight by Bethesda? They aren't needed for any quests at all, after signing up for the Stormcloaks, so they could/should become unflagged then. WooShell 01:00, 22 April 2012 (UTC)

Same happens for the Stormcloak camp leaders. I'd say its an oversight on removing the essential status once you commit to either side. What happens to the camp leaders of your own side? The Silencer has spokenTalk 01:05, 22 April 2012 (UTC)
From what I can remember, the camps of the side you picked mainly disappear, with the exception of the Haafingar Stormcloak Camp, I've never played Imperial so I wouldn't know for them. (Eddie The Head 04:59, 22 April 2012 (UTC))

Leveled rewards?Edit

Don't think all the rewards are leveled though. I started this quest at level 50 with patch 1.5. Needed to liberate 4 holds b4 the final battle for Solitude (due to Season Unending selection). The order of the rewards for 4 holds: 1st a steel sword, 2nd an elven shield, 3rd an ebony sword, 4th an ebony sword and full suit of Stormcloak officer armor. Even tried to save each time b4 going back to Ulfric, restart the game and reload the saves just to see if there was some bugs here, and got: 1st a steel sword, 2nd an elven shield, 3rd a glass sword, 4th a glass sword and Stormcloak officer armor.

Only the battle for Whiterun and Solitude were guaranteed to get leveled weapons: Daedric sword of the inferno for Whiterun, and Daedric sword of the vampire for Solitude. All level 50 rewards. — Unsigned comment by 175.139.119.86 (talk) at 14:52 on 23 April 2012 (UTC)

A lot of leveled rewards are based on when the quest is triggered, not when you get the reward. In a few cases, that leads to oddities due to the quest being triggered the moment you start the game (meaning you always get a level 1 reward, even though the reward is supposed to be leveled). Since nobody else has come out and said "oh yeah, me too" on this, I'm inclined to believe that it's a matter of luck and/or when you saved vs. when the quest was triggered. If there are other reports of unleveled equipment, I'll look into it further. Robin Hoodtalk 04:25, 21 May 2012 (UTC)
Level 49-50: Daedric sword of Burning for Whiterun, then steel sword for Falkreath, hide shield for Reach...only triggered the quest (by talking with Ulfric) at level 49. — Unsigned comment by 174.97.168.56 (talk) at 00:16 on 17 September 2012‎ (UTC)
At level 146 recieved a hide shield after Fort Sungard (liberation of the Reach) not sure what level I started the quest at, but definitely over 130 EDIT: game crashed when I went back into it, after loading autosave he gave me an Elven shield.. maybe the shield is random and not leveled (or my level is too high from legendary skills?) — Unsigned comment by 108.205.244.55 (talk) at 20:56 on 18 September 2021 (UTC)

Conflicting With The Rest Of The GameEdit

It should be noted that completing the Stormcloak quest line conflicts with many potions of the game. For instance, imperial guards escort the Moth in Dawnguard, and Commander Maro is still in Dragon bridge. I'm sure that there are a lot more, but this is just what I could think of.

216.246.130.20 07:59, 28 June 2012 (UTC)

Then perhaps the Stormcloaks were never meant to win. Long live the Emperor! — Unsigned comment by 69.230.69.91 (talk) at 04:39 on 22 February 2013 (UTC)

Assigning holdsEdit

Does anyone know if it's possible to assign holds to a different side for the civil war using console. I'm trying to do all quests possible in one go and would love to know how to do all the standard liberation quests (the ones you get if not doing Season Unending) AND also ALL the alternate quests you can potentially get after doing Season Unending (Battle for Fort Dunstad/Greenwall/Kastav). In other words I want the game to think the Stormcloaks start with only Windhelm and then take all the other 8 holds by force instead of just some of them. — Unsigned comment by 42.241.24.70 (talk) at 13:48 on 30 September 2012 (UTC)

You might be able to if you really tried hard, but the civil war coding is so complex, even a full-fledged mod might have a hard time changing everything you'd need to. A lot of game decisions are also based on who chose what side, and they're designed to be mutually exclusive. Messing with that might really screw up the Civil War quest line and by extension, your whole game. Robin Hoodtalk 20:42, 30 September 2012 (GMT)

gifts from UlfricEdit

I just finished taking Falkreath, and when talking to Ulfric afterwards he said "take this..." but I didn't see the text telling me what he gave me, and going through my inventory I couldn't find anything new, but then again I'm carrying a lot of stuff (half my armor is enchanted with Fortify Carry Weight, heh). Does anyone know offhand what the item probably was? And is this info available on one of the articles here, but I just didn't see it? - 70.72.16.171 10:02, 28 February 2013 (GMT)

I think that's the Imperial officer's sword. It's an enchanted sword of some kind. --Morrolan (talk) 20:56, 16 September 2014 (GMT)

a false front, no legate?Edit

The legate I'm supposed too give the forged letters to isn't appearing anywhere ago u can't move on. I tried leading a new save but nothing. Even tried searching the town for him but I didn't go in houses. What happened to him that he is NOWHERE. Do I have to become a thane to fix it? — Unsigned comment by 172.56.26.187 (talk) at 14:12 on 13 January 2014 (UTC)

Legates usually hang out in the Jarl's longhouse, so that should be the first place you check. You don't have to be a thane to complete the quest. Hope this helps! ThuumofReason (talk) 14:36, 13 January 2014 (GMT)
That's exactly it. He isn't there. He isn't anywhere. The thane wrist is midway in but not since yet, and I can't find him ;-; — Unsigned comment by 172.56.26.187 (talk) at 19:08 on 13 January 2014‎ (UTC)
I'll give the same advice here I just gave on another page: try fast travelling far away to a few different places, wait 24 hours, quit, reload, and then come back. (That's being thorough...often just a quick fast travel will do.) You say "legate" and "him", so I'm going to assume you're doing this for the Stormcloaks and you're looking for Legate Taurinus Duilis. Have a look at his page and see where he's supposed to be and see if that helps. Even if he's not in one place, try waiting till the appropriate time and look for him in the next place to see if he shows up. He's marked as Essential, so he should be unkillable. In theory, he should show up somewhere eventually. Robin Hood  (talk) 20:12, 13 January 2014 (GMT)
I did that to no avail yesterday. Even went to a new save, edited before going to morthal, fast traveled into and out of and back into morthal, used the wait timer and waited 8 hours till 3ish game time, to no avail. — Unsigned comment by 172.56.26.187 (talk) at 20:30 on 13 January 2014 (UTC)‎
Based on a note on his page, I'd also suggest looking at the Imperial camp SSE of Ustengrav (NE of Morthal) to see if he's there. If you're on a gaming console, you may be out of luck if that doesn't work. If you're playing on a PC, try opening the console with the ~ key and type in: player.moveto 00077DD7 or if you don't see him wherever that takes you, try player.moveto 00037F94. Ulfric Solitude SpeechEdit

Maybe I didn't notice it before, but this play through Ulfric gave the same Whiterun attack speech that Galmar gives. Is that normal? I've got all the Unofficial patches. Tiger8u2 (talk) 05:22, 4 June 2014 (GMT)

No this isn't normal. A little more detail is needed to find the oddity. When and where was Ulfric when he gave the speech? Silence is GoldenBreak the Silence 12:40, 4 June 2014 (GMT)

A bug?Edit

Upon arriving at the Falkreath Stormcloak camp and speaking with Galmar (choosing the "Reporting in" option) he says that he's in the middle of something and he'll need me later.
