Standalone Fix?!Edit

Does anybody know if there's a STANDALONE mod that fixes this prohibitive bug? The USKP is a bloated nightmare that "fixes" a lot of game mechanics that I've never thought of as broken. It'd be nice if somebody would release a mod that fixes just this issue. 66.169.241.204 06:33, 5 March 2014 (GMT)

There's a mod called Stealth Skills Rebalanced which also addresses the pickpocket bug, though it makes other changes to Pickpocket as well so I wouldn't exactly call it a standalone fix. — Unsigned comment by Kryptopyr (talkcontribs) at 10:46 on 1 August 2014

Bugged EffectEdit

i think this effect if bugged when enchanted (or at least, the thieves guild boots are), i've equipped them and the % chance went DOWN instead of up (from 8% to 0% once, and from 5% to 0% another time). if i unequip them the % chance goes back up again to what it was before. 89.242.80.146 15:51, 3 January 2012 (UTC) rash

Confirmed (partially). I have the Thieves Guild Boots as well as a few (Eminent/Extreme) Deft Hands jewelries and armor. With 100 Pickpocketing, 1/5 Light Fingers, Cutpurse, and no Fortify Pickpocket enchantments, stealing 1460 gold from a standing unaware person shows 10% chance; putting on all 4 Fortify Pickpocket items showed *at one time* 49%. Failed then reloaded, and it's 0%! Leaving only the Thieves Guild Boots on while still at the steal inventory menu showed 8%. Exited the menu, put all 4 enchantments back on, checked inventory again, 0%. Exited the menu, put all 4 off, checked inventory, 60%. I'm at a loss on how that's calculated. Edit: Unequipped everything to have a constant 10% chance, succeeded after ~30 reloads (90%^30 is about 4%, very unlucky). 71.132.201.220 07:15, 4 January 2012 (UTC)
Confirmed to NOT be fixed by the 1.3.10 patch. Jimhsu 23:39, 10 January 2012 (UTC)
Im just now noticing this bug (up to date with patches on xbox.. I think its 1.7 or something like that). I have 100 pickpocket skill with all the pickpocket perks. Im reverse pickpocketing a poison that I made with slow and weakness to poison (basically my pre-poison poison). Without any fortify pickpocket enchantments it shows 81% chance (its an expensive poison), with a ring of peerless deft hands I only get 73% chance. Im not sure if its really displaying the correct chance of success that I actually get though, because it does seem to work more often when I use the ring despite displaying a lower chance of success. 71.181.70.79 03:41, 14 August 2012 (UTC)
I'm also experiencing this glitch, but with potions. With a Pickpocket of 91 and 3/5 Light Fingers, picking 1670 gold has a 17% chance. With a potion of 20% improvement, that's reduced to 9% and 10% with a homebrewed potion with 19%. I think there is enough consenus to include this in the article. It might be worth mentioning that I play on Xbox.Eximago (talk) 06:46, 24 October 2012 (GMT)

() I've gone ahead and added a (somewhat generic) bug for this to the article. If anyone can come up with an explanation for this, or some more exact details, or a fix, please add it to the bug. Thanks! eshetalk 15:34, 21 November 2012 (GMT)

I can add more confirmation for the bug. I decided to see if making a ring with a Fortify Enchanting (about 850%) potion and all relevant enchanting perks could actually make training pickpocket and lockpicking less risky and tedious respectively. I discovered that the lockpicking part works as expected, but pickpocketing is off. Often, the pickpocket chance for any items besides money is 90%, but I've also noticed that gold is virtually always 0% either way, and I'm not gaining experience at any rate that makes sense for how risky pickpocketing is normally. I pickpocketed and reverse-pickpocketed an amulet worth over 1000, and it barely moved the bar with several successful tries at a skill level of 22. This just doesn't seem right, even with fairly extreme enchanting.--Playerseekingbugs (talk) 23:37, 9 December 2012 (GMT)
I'm now aware that reverse-pickpocketing then pickpocketing gives no experience, but I know that something's still off. It seems like there's some sort of bugged hidden limit on the effectiveness of the enchantment, because with a ring that had about Fortify Pickpocket 10,000% I saw the success rate maximized for a number of items when I put it on as opposed to view that same pocket without it on at a skill of 38. But then there were items that insisted that they were impossible to get, and yet I took them at a success rate of 0%. Then there was the Blade of Woe. Astrid wouldn't part with until raised Pickpocket to 100 and got a chance of 20% without the crazy ring. I forgot to check if the ring did anything though. It probably, since if I recall the pickpocket formula indicates that the pickpocket skill can only be effectively fortified if the chance is not 0% so why did I manage to get past this a few other items, and what is the point in crippling the potential of this enchantment? Sure you can abuse it, but there's no point to them worrying about it enough to stop this if we can already easily take gems and jewelry. The only things of greater challenge that anyone carries are typically low-quality armor and weapons for goodness sake.--Playerseekingbugs (talk) 16:58, 9 March 2013 (GMT)
It might be that the displayed chance is the actually bugged part; for example, attempting to pickpocket Cicero's Hat displays as 17% (at 100% Pickpocket with all relevant perks), but I've never successfully done it despite numerous attempts. Equipping any Fortify Pickpocket gear makes the displayed chance switch to 0%, which might actually be the correct percentage... 124.170.21.199 12:36, 14 April 2013 (GMT)
Switching the difficulty level from Legendary down to Novice didn't change the displayed percentages at all, but allowed me to pickpocket the hat on the second attempt. There's definitely something screwy with this. 124.170.21.199 12:52, 14 April 2013 (GMT)
I used my crazy ring to reversed-pickpocket a Nordic Mace onto Falas Selvayn and then bought the Ebony Bow he was carrying, which caused him to equip the mace and then sell his unique bow to me, so I don't think the ring I made is useless. It just can't be used while trying to train the skill if you want to gain any experience, and regardless of your skill level there is probably a point where it can no longer help you pickpocket something.--Playerseekingbugs (talk) 21:00, 14 April 2013 (GMT)
Bug showing on my game. On XBOX360 with current update.
Item: Silver Emerald Necklace. wgt 0.5, $830.
Target: Maul in Riften, at night, occasionally moves but sneak is high enough and I keep myself undetected during every attempt.
All situations below were attempted multiple times, multiple reloads (a dozen so far). Results show when I exit the pickpocket dialogue, equip/drink potion, then pickpocket; and also show when I equip/drink potion and attempt again without leaving the pickpocket dialogue.
Pickpocket at 37, Light Fingers 1/5 perk, no items. Pickpocket chance is 8%
Equip a Necklace of Major Deft Hands (NoMDH) (25% improvement). Pickpocket chance is 5%
Unequip NoMDH, drink a Potion of Pickpocketing (PoP) (20% improvement). Pickpocket chance is 6%
Equip NoMDH, drink PoP. Pickpocket chance is 2%
No matter how I try it it always has all the same numbers. Pretty sure this is a good confirmation on 360 at least. The effects increase chance to place just fine, but chance to steal decreases. 216.164.118.15 02:43, 5 June 2013 (GMT)
Noticed this issue showing up on a few other people at random, tested with various items and fortify pickpocket effects, and similar results came about. I'm not sure if it affects certain items, certain people, or what the circumstances are that cause it, however one thought is that it might come about as a glitch from failing to pickpocket an item and then reloading a save from immediately before pickpocketing and attempting it again. Further testing needed, but I will be sure to update if I have more information. 216.164.118.15 05:25, 5 June 2013 (GMT)
You don't need to fail a pickpocket attempt for this to occur - I just tried to pickpocket a staff off someone whilst they were sleeping. The percentage, sans equipment, was 28% so I figured I would try the equipment I had (Thief Guild Boot and Ring of Eminent Deft Hands) to better my odds. The percentage went down to 11%. Removing the boot got it back to 17% and I got back to 28% when I also removed the ring. This is on a 360, btw.Chaosworrier (talk) 15:24, 23 April 2014 (GMT)

Moved as per emailEdit

This bug is still apparent as of 5/1/2013@1:46AM (Central Standard Time) Skyrim Version 1.9.32.0.8, SKSE 1.6.13 rel 41, Steam fully patched, Unofficial Skyrim Patch 1.3.2a, Unofficial High Resolution Patch 1.1.1, Unofficial Dawnguard patch 1.2.1a, Unofficial Hearthfire Patch 1.1.0, Unofficial Dragonborn Patch 1.0.3b, proper load orders via BOSS, all things recommended by BOSS being cleaned as per instructions through TES5Edit. Confirmed, The chance to pickpocket with absolutely no Fortify Pickpocket Enchanted items, or Fortify Pickpocket potions, along with every perk in Pickpocket Perk Tree taken, for an arbitrary item was 76% (Daedric Dagger of Exhaustion - <Markath Guard>). Upon donning 4 pieces of Fortify Pickpocket gear (55% Fortify Pickpocket each - confirmed to show up in active effects after equipping the enchanted items) the chance to pickpocket the item plummeted to 36%. While wearing the enchanted gear, drinking a potion of Fortify Pickpocket with a magnitude of 152% for 60 seconds (Max alchemy and max fortify alchemy suit potion), the chance to pickpocket the item was reading as 0%. Confirmed via multiple reload attempts that 76% on average chance to Pickpocket was working correctly as displayed, and also confirmed that pickpocketing same item at 0% chance scenario proved impossible among roughly 50 pickpocketing attempts. How's that for a bug confirmation? — Unsigned comment by 70.138.85.245 (talk) at 19:04 on 1 May 2013 (GMT)

Yep, we know. Fortify Pickpocket is bugged. I'm not sure if anyone's ever seen it work the way it's supposed to actually. Anyway the bug is confirmed on the main page :) --Morrolan (talk) 16:17, 8 September 2013 (GMT)

Fixed as of USKP 2.0.0Edit

As noted in its changelog. I tested this by trying to pickpocket a sum of gold with a pickpocket skill of 83 and got a 2% chance. Equipping a Ring of Peerless Deft Hands increases the chance to 42%. Ejia (talk) 07:49, 3 November 2013 (GMT)

I've made a note of this on the article. Thank you for pointing this out! --AKB Talk Cont Mail 11:03, 3 November 2013 (GMT)

Attempt #6

***Same as attempt #5 except for the following.

Equipment removed: Aforementioned player made ring.

Potions taken: Same as attempt #5.

Time: 1:40

Result: Displayed "0% TO STEAL". Tried 10 times without success.

Also tried these variations and others with target sleeping. Initially displayed "30% TO STEAL". Tried 11 times succeeding on the 2nd and 11th tries. But as soon as I added any fortify pickpocket equipment or potions it displayed "0% TO STEAL" and all attempts failed.

In addition, I tried making my pickpocket skill legendary, returning it to level 15. I then tried the above combinations. In all instances it displaced "0% TO STEAL" and failed each time I attempted. I even tried getting the Light Finger (1/5) perk, but no help.

So it would appear that I might be experiencing this, or at least a very similar bug.— Unsigned comment by Bizaro (talkcontribs) at 07:44 on 21 August 2014
