CapEdit

What is the cap for Block effectiveness? Is it possible to reach full damage reduction from melee attacks?

How many is the number of Fortify Block % which results in the maximum possible damage reduction? I mean you can have up to four items equipped which increases it and you can increase it beyond 40% per item. There is the Block skill power perk (5/5) too... Just asking because it must be unneccessary to have so many items, there has to be a limit with the percentages. Thanks. — Unsigned comment by 88.132.45.92 (talk) at 01:50 on 26 December 2011

Fortify Block has the same damage cap as the armor cap. Which is 80% reduction. I had tested this myself by having A) a shield and ring with 40% block on each and B) having a shield, ring, and amulet with 40% block on each one.
A) a total of 80% block
B)a total of 120% block
I tested this on a giant and the damage was exactly the same when I had either Set A or Set B — Unsigned comment by 71.156.36.216 (talk) at 09:20 on 6 January 2012
Seems to cap out at around 85%
going by this thread here: http://forums.bethsoft.com/topic/1294892-max-block-absorb/#entry19589131
So it looks like the damage mitigation cap for blocking is 85%, on top of the 80% from your armor reduction. 100 block skill appears to get you about halfway there, and it looks like you can get the other 50% of the way either through taking the five perks for additional block percentage or through fortify blocking enchantments. — Unsigned comment by 65.23.113.146 (talk) at 21:20 on 10 January 2012

Enchantment Vs PotionsEdit

The description of the enchantment explicitly states SHIELDS, while the potions simply state blocking. As far as I can tell in the game code itself there is no checks made to see if the player is wearing a shield. This means either:

A) The enchantment's description is erroneous, and Stendarr's blessing affects parrying as well as blocking.

B) The potions description is not explicit enough and the game is hard-wired to only apply BlockMod values to shields.

Any idea which is true? (I'm gonna run some tests of my own but wondered if the answer is already there) --94.76.168.253 15:49, 30 May 2012 (UTC)

Shield Required?Edit

Does the enchantment apply even if you block with a weapon? The description always explicitly mentions blocking with a shield. SonGoharotto (talk) 19:18, 4 September 2012 (EDT)

I would think that you wouldn't require a shield for the enchantment to work, but I'm not entirely sure. --VikingRevent (talk) 08:46, 27 February 2013 (GMT)
Yes it applies if you block with a weapon only, despite what the enchantment description says about blocking with your shield. I tested it with a one handed weapon with 3 block enchantments totaling about 80 percent block. Healed then unequipted the enchantments still keeping the exact same armor ratting and the same enemy did noticeably more damage while blocking. I assume it would work with two handed weapons as well, but I havn't tested it. — Unsigned comment by 172.7.250.36 (talk) at 21:55 on 21 May 2014 (GMT)

Shield vs 1H vs 2HEdit

Can anybody give a rundown of the effectiveness differences between shield, 1H and 2H?(will using fortify block enchantments extend the effectiveness of 2H blocking up to cap?) — Unsigned comment by 70.77.112.57 (talk) at 03:18 on 15 September 2012 (GMT)

Is the info correct?Edit

Okay so the enchantment says you block more than you did before the applied effect, in percent. It doesn't say it reduces physical damage by given percent. So I think the article is misleading in a way of handling the meaning of the effect.

So let's say you block 30 points of damage without it. After you apply a 40% Fortify Block. Then you will block 42 points of damage and not 40% of the incoming physical damage. What do you think? --109.61.2.198 17:32, 9 November 2013 (GMT)
