Geirmund's Hall problemEdit

I cleared this dungeon before I had this quest marked. After killing the boss, I either failed to loot him or his corpse fell through the floor (I forget, it was a while ago). Returning to collect his fragment of the amulet, I can't do it. The dungeon has reset but the boss has not reappeared and his corpse is nowhere to be found. The quest marker points to a spot on the floor where he presumably died and there is nothing there so I cannot progress. Sigh. (Xbox 360) 71.163.235.35 02:34, 3 December 2011 (UTC)

Same here. I am sure i looted the corpse but did not get a fragment. There are other quests for Geirmund's Hall, so it's easy to kill this brother before getting the Forbidden Legend quest. — Unsigned comment by SamiteAlchemist (talkcontribs) at 02:17 on 29 December 2011
This is not an isolated incident, then, because the same thing is happening to me. I'm quite upset about it and I hope we get a patch for this. — Unsigned comment by 24.15.102.83 (talk) at 23:13 on 3 January 2012
I've had a completely different bug crop up on Geirmund's Hall. I've never ventured in the cave before, but I had gone close enough to discover it. I started the quest via stumbling onto the empty camp near Folgunthur and then completing it. Now, every time I enter Geirmund's Hall, the game locks up on the loading screen. (XBox 360) I've not played around enough with my save files to see if this problem occurs prior to starting the quest at Folgunthur. Chicagowiz 04:26, 4 January 2012 (UTC)
I've also encountered a similar bug in Geirmund's. I killed the real brother near the back wall grating and used soul trap which worked. But the corpse disappeared and the Amulet quest marker now appears below the floor and is inaccessible. I am not sure what to do console wise (thankfully on PC) to remedy this. If I just additem the Amulet piece will that advance the quest?--99.254.77.161 04:39, 13 January 2012 (UTC)
Went back to an earlier save and replayed the dungeon with no problem. I found that I could actually kill Sigdis with a power attack just as he was getting out of the tomb, so I didn't need to fight his illusions.--99.254.77.161 16:51, 13 January 2012 (UTC)

() I have encountered this bug as well. I cleared this dungeon pretty early on in the game, and when I issued the killing blow, Sigdis simply disappeared. There was no corpse to loot or anything like that, and I searched for a while. Now that I have the quest, I see ash piles all over the place from where I must have killed his alters (none of which can be looted). I see the quest waypoint at a specific spot in the water, however there is nothing there. I tried using a console command to restore him "player.placeatme A6842", and while I was able to kill him and I was able to loot the bow, the amulet fragment is nowhere to be found (which jives with some other explanations of this bug.) I sincerely hope Bethesda fixes this, as this is one of the better quests in the game, and I'm rather irked that I cannot finish it. (Jrista 03:14, 16 January 2012 (UTC))

PS3 V1.5 — Unsigned comment by 77.194.36.225 (talk) at 09:34 on 16 April 2012
i have this issue too. the marker is on one spot in the water but there isnt anything to loot. i have the other two but i cant go on with this quest until i have the third one. is there any ways to get the amulet fragment if i have this issue? — Unsigned comment by Haylie31 (talkcontribs) on of 00:53, 15 July 2012

Emerald Claw Door BugEdit

The rings will not move whatsoever any ideas on how to fix this? — Unsigned comment by 24.7.152.111 (talk) at 04:00 on 10 December 2011

im having the same issue . . . ive had nothing but truble with this quest, im the 1 who wrote the bug near the bottom about daynas's journal. and ever since then its been a nightmare doors not opening those puzzle pillers not moving n ive manage to get throu it! but this door ahh ffs! im stuck i cant even move the blocks or nout ... ill update you if i find anything. xXx Matrix xXx 02:07, 16 December 2011 (UTC)
ok if you re-load the auto save a lot of time that should eventually work. xXx Matrix xXx 02:07, 16 December 2011 (UTC)
YES it dose wooooooo! re-load it 4 or 5 times! your welcome! xXx Matrix xXx 02:11, 16 December 2011 (UTC)
The rings did not move for me. Exitiing and re-entering the cave made them movable. The correct code (shown on the emerald claw) did not then open the door. I fixed this by clicking on all the rings and setting all three in motion at the same time, finishing with the correct line up, bear, fish, snake if I remember rightly. I also had to set all rings moving on the second door to get that to open as well. Hope this helps anyone else who is suffering the glitch. — Unsigned comment by 62.25.109.197 (talk) at 10:48 on 23 April 2012

Gauldur AmuletEdit

How come when i take the gauldur amulet,i complete the mission but i don't have the amulet.why is this so? — Unsigned comment by 116.89.120.10 (talk) at 13:18 on 10 March 2012

you use the ivory claw in one of the other tombs involved witht the quest, its the one that the dead explorer, forgotten his name, has if you search his body in folthungar

Gauldur Blackblade LevelEdit

I was a really low level when I first got this quest during the mages guild questline, but i held off on doing it until recently. I was level 36 when i finally went to Folgunthur and killed Mikrul Gauldurson, but when i picked up the Gauldur Blackblade, i got the level 12-18 version. Is this a bug, or do the quest rewards set to your level the moment you get the quest? ~~Emi 18:44, 29 March 2012 128.227.190.15

It varies from one quest to the next. A few are even bugged and "level" according to your level when you start the game which, of course, is always one, so you get crappy rewards. (PS, you wanted four tildes, not two. :Þ) Robin Hoodtalk 19:09, 29 March 2012 (UTC)
Thanks a lot. I got the Gauldur Blackbow too, and it was the 12-18 version so I guess it set at whatever level I was when I first received the quest. I dont even know why they bother having leveled rewards honestly 128.227.190.15 20:15, 29 March 2012 (UTC)Emi
Could someone test the leveling system on these weapons and post their results? I know the game came out less than half a year ago, but I hope someone gets to it soon. I'm a bit of a perfectionist and I'm playing on 360. I recieved the quest when I read the book before I was even level ten, and I'm really hoping that that doesn't mean the sword and bow are going to be pathetic when I finally do the quest at level 36 or above. I liked how people contributed the info on this in the Oblivion pages. — Unsigned comment by 199.8.43.2 (talk) on 30 April 2012
I got low level reward, and I was past level 40 when I started this quest. It seems to be bugged regardless of when you started it. Lobsel Vith 18:06, 3 May 2012 (UTC)
I was level 37 when i got the quest an complete both for the blade & bow . i got de 30-35 version with both weapon — Unsigned comment by 74.57.1.98 (talk) at 09:34 on 10 May 2012

Key/epitaphEdit

There is no key in geirmund's hand and no epitaph. PS3 — Unsigned comment by Cowleyj (talkcontribs) at 17:04 on 14 June 2012

The key and the epitaph note are often pushed onto the floor when you fight the draugr defending it. Try looking around for a bit. --Krusty 17:14, 14 June 2012 (UTC)
yeah, that is what I thought had happened, but after looking all around the room for ten minutes I couldn't find them. It was all good though as I picked the lock on the door. Thanks anyway, krustyCowleyj 20:04, 14 June 2012 (UTC)

Unable to complete questEdit

For some reason, the objective for clearing out the Hall (I don't know what the first word is) says I cannot show it on the map, but yet it says it's not completed. I completed Folgunthur and the other place, but will I be able to continue the quest if I just go there? Is the quest broken? — Unsigned comment by 99.184.245.227 (talk) at 15:56 on 20 July 2012

I'm a bit late replying to this, but oh well. You are probably looking for Geirmund's Hall. It's just a bit south of Ivarstead, on an island in the middle of a lake. You should be able to find your last Gauldur Amulet Fragment there. --Morrolan (talk) 01:11, 22 February 2013 (GMT)

Reachwater Rock StrategyEdit

When going to Reachwater Rock, if you are a magic-user, bring a Staff of Chain Lightning and some filled soul gems. It helps IMMENSLY with the first two. Mikrul staggers when hit, and it brings his health down a chunk. When he is dead, all the draugr die too, so try to kill him quick so you don't have to waste any time on the others. Sigdis, if you get some close enough together, then you can easily tell which is the real one with one shot (hehe). He's not that high in health, so four or five good shots may do it. — Unsigned comment by 184.88.12.130 (talk) at 19:11 on 13 August 2012

Forbidden Legend Re-Classified from Side Quest -> Dungeon to Side Quest -> OtherEdit

Here, just in case anybody cares and disagrees. --JR (talk) 17:12, 17 October 2012 (GMT)

College of Winterhold sidequest?Edit

It is impossible to complete this quest without joining the college and doing most of Under Saarthal. You can start it as a full quest before joining the College, unlike No Stone Unturned which does not become a full quest until you join the Thieves Guild, but shouldn't this really be considered a sidequest of the College in the same way that NSU is a sidequest of the Thieves Guild? --Morrolan (talk) 01:06, 22 February 2013 (GMT)

No Stone Unturned is a full-fledged Thieves Quest, it has never been only a side quest. It uses both the TG icon and adds one to the counter in the stats. Forbidden Legend is not a College Quest technically, even though you must join the college to complete it, therefore it cannot be classed as one. Silence is GoldenBreak the Silence 16:34, 16 March 2013 (GMT)
It is still not a dungeon quest, which is defined as a quest that takes place in a single dungeon. If we're going to just go by the counters and icons, then Delayed Burial needs to be considered a Dark Brotherhood sidequest, even though it can be completed by a character that never joins the Dark Brotherhood. No Stone Unturned, incidentally, does not need to be completed in order to have the Thieves Guild questline marked as completed, it's a sidequest. --Morrolan (talk) 19:04, 16 March 2013 (GMT)
Delayed Burial is already marked as a Dark Brotherhood quest. It uses the icon and adds to the DB quests in the journal, as does the No Stone Unturned for the Thieves Guild. I don't see where it says that a dungeon quest can only take place in one location, and Forbidden Legend is marked as "Other" in the side quests page. The Dungeon Quests page only has it under Folgunthur, and by the guide there, it should probably be under the other dungeons too. Silence is GoldenBreak the Silence 19:15, 16 March 2013 (GMT)
The definition on the sidequests page says that dungeon quests begin and end in a single dungeon, which is why it got moved to other on that page. Forbidden Legend can begin in a large number of locations (four dungeons, plus every copy of Lost Legends in the game) and requires you to complete four dungeons in order to complete it, one of which you need to join a faction in order to complete. That makes it pretty much unique; there's no other quest in the game that requires the completion of more than one dungeon, although No Stone Unturned requires you to enter a lot of dungeons. --Morrolan (talk) 21:06, 20 March 2013 (GMT)

Stuck in Waterlogged CryptEdit

I have dropped in to the waterlogged crypt and found the puzzle columns, they will not move for me. Have I missed something or is this a known clitch? Playing on XBox — Unsigned comment by Lilth (talkcontribs) at 12:21 on 14 April 2013

Bugs CleanupEdit

  • In Reachwater Rock, after all three brothers spawn and stay there where they dont attack and you cant attack them, clicking them and disabling with command line ( ` ,click(each one) , disable) the quest will continue.
  • In Reachwater Rock, watch out when you are fighting the second boss. If he hits you with his shout, you can get stuck in the area where boss spawns.
  • One of the Amulet fragments might disappear when you place it on the pedestal in Reachwater Rock, which means one of the ghost sons will be missing as well, making it impossible to advance the quest. Reloading will solve it.
  • After you kill Mikrul in Reachwater Rock, Sigdis may stay on the platform next to Jyrik instead of attacking you. Reloading will fix this.
  • When fighting the third brother, sometimes he will not die properly and instead respawns on the ledge and doesn't react to any attacks nor launch any attacks.
  • In Reachwater Rock, after killing all three brothers with a lightning attack, they turn to ash piles but still remain as active enemies on your HUD.
  • In Reachwater Rock, after killing all three brothers, if you have certain party members with you (namely Delphine, Esbern) then Gauldur will not preform the reforging animation, and instead go into an attack position permanently. Your party members will also switch to their ranged weapons, but will not attack, and neither them nor Gauldur can be interacted with, leaving you stuck. The only known fix is to reload an earlier save before starting the fight, and telling your party members to wait outside while you fight the three brothers.
  • In Geirmund's Hall, if you kill Sigdis Gauldurson before he has a chance to teleport his body may disappear and it will be impossible to continue the quest.
    •   The body can be recovered with the console. Type prid 000A5E68, then moveto player, then disable, and then enable. This will make the body accessible again.

These bugs have all been unconfirmed for long enough. Silence is GoldenBreak the Silence 00:08, 26 September 2013 (GMT)

Confirming the "*In Reachwater Rock, watch out when you are fighting the second boss. If he hits you with his shout, you can get stuck in the area where boss spawns." but you can just Unrelenting Shout him until he finally dies. It goes quicker with a companion.75.49.153.158 00:47, 20 January 2014 (GMT)

Quest goneEdit

I face a really strange problem. The quest seems to be non-existent in my game. None of the quest items are there, the quest exists console wise but I can't set the stages. No errors, but nothing happens if I set a quest stage. Adding the quest items via console does nothing, too. I have no idea what could have caused this, the save is rather advanced (Level 61) but if I think back, even the first of the brothers in Saarthal didn't have an amulet fragment.

Has anybody faced similar problems or does anybody have a hint how I could get this to work?

Thanks a lot! --Romulus (talk) 21:10, 3 August 2016 (UTC)

Just found in the Nexus forum that some other users had exactly the same problem. One of them posted their mod list and I can't see any similarities to mine except "Unlimited Bookshelves". I don't think this mod does cause the problem... --Romulus (talk) 08:34, 4 August 2016 (UTC)
This advice is a little late, but you should always think twice before using the console. Also, if you haven't already, try reading the article for it. My advice would be to first try GetStage dunGauldursonQST to see what you've done. Then I'd try using StartQuest dunGauldursonQST and then setting the stage back to 0. That said, you may have failed the quest, if you used the wrong console commands. If so, then you can't really do anything about it.- KINMUNETALK﴿ 09:00, 4 August 2016 (UTC)
Well, first off, of course I do have a save from before messing with the console. The quest stage is 0 and stays 0 no matter if I use StartQuest or SetQuest. The quest never showed up in the quest list, I can't really remember if defeating Jyrik or reading the Book "Lost Legends was the first thing I did that should have started the quest but it must have been one of those. Anyways, thanks for your answer. --Romulus (talk) 09:07, 4 August 2016 (UTC)

Amulet spawn bugEdit

After Gauldur's ghost appeared, I got a little overeager to loot his body and hopped up on the table while he was doing the reforging animation. The complete Gauldur Amulet never appeared, presumably because I was standing where it was supposed to spawn; I had to reload my last save and re-do the fights with the brothers (and stay off the table until Gauldur was done) in order to get it. Has this happened to anyone else? — Unsigned comment by 72.209.0.113 (talk) at 17:43 on 15 January 2017

I don't know if anyone else has experienced, but this would be classed as a 'forced bug' i.e. interrupting the spawning animation. You shouldn't expect the game to anticipate actions like that. Silence is GoldenBreak the Silence 17:59, 15 January 2017 (UTC)

Sigdis becoming invulnerableEdit

Have experienced a situation where Sigdis was paralyzed when he teleported, and when he reappeared he remained frozen on the ground and was also rendered completely immune to damage and any other effects, meaning he could not be killed and forcing a reload of a previous save. This situation has been noted on one of the other Skyrim wikis: http://elderscrolls.wikia.com/wiki/Forbidden_Legend#Bugs along with killing him quickly before his first teleport.
