Skyrim talk:Florentius Baenius

Voice ActorEdit

Has anybody discovered who voiced this character? I can't seem to find it anywhere. --Xyzzy Talk 16:53, 30 September 2012 (GMT)

I don't know. My guess is Jeremy Clarkson off Top Gear. Dragon Guard (talk) 14:35, 6 August 2013 (GMT)
It sounds A LOT like Tim Curry, but I think he would be too expensive for voice acting in a game like Skyrim. The budget would just be too expensive. It could be him though. Guard of DragonsSpeak To Me 21:10, 22 August 2013 (GMT)
It could be JB Blanc, Florentius sounds an awful lot like Zinyak from Saints Row IV 76.180.146.190 07:10, 20 February 2014 (GMT)
It's definitely JB Blanc, just watch an interview and there'll be no doubt — Unsigned comment by 110.22.166.2 (talk) at 09:32 on 23 February 2015 (UTC)
Just stitching this up for anyone who cares: It's https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Richard_Epcar.

Braveheart easter egg?Edit

So everyone knows that Florentius Baenius is an insane priest of Arkay who believes that the god actually speaks to him, yes? Well, while talking to him in Fort Dawnguard, I got a couple of very interesting lines of dialogue that reminded me very much of the character 'mad' Stephen the Irishman from the film Braveheart. He said "I knew you had it in you! Arkay wasn't so sure. Between you and me, I think he didn't expect you to make it." and "Arkay's been watching over me for years now. He says he's not too sure about you yet, though.", while there's a scene in the movie where Stephen says "The Lord tells me he can get me out of this mess, but he's pretty sure you're f**ked."

Would this qualify as a legitimate easter egg? And if so, would it go under the main easter egg page for Skyrim, or do the add-ons have their own pages?

Voraxith (talk) 06:13, 25 October 2012 (GMT)

I'm not seeing much of a resemblance.
Yes, this would go on the main Eggs page if it is one. Expansions get their own pages (like here), but not DLC. Vely►t►e 13:00, 25 October 2012 (GMT)
Not much of a resemblance? They both have one-sided conversations with a deity, coming across as insane, and they both say that their god can protect them, but express doubt regarding the principle protagonist. As soon as I heard the dialogue from Florentius Baenius, I immediately thought of the character from Braveheart. I can't be the only one who made the connection. Voraxith (talk) 16:19, 25 October 2012 (GMT)
The things they say aren't that related, they have completely different attitudes and wording, and, from a glance, the situations are completely different too (one's in a fight and one's getting out of bed). They have some small similarities (they're mad, communicate with their gods, and talk of differing trust), but I'm pretty sure it's not enough. It's certainly not a clear reference to me. Vely►t►e 17:35, 25 October 2012 (GMT)
I concur with Vely on this. Not similar enough to be considered an easter egg. Lord Eydvar Talk|Contribs 17:42, 25 October 2012 (GMT)
Agreed. The connection is extremely tenuous. --Xyzzy Talk 20:02, 25 October 2012 (GMT)
Okay, I'll just go with it then. But I can't help but wonder if you guys have even seen the movie. I just showed this to my brother - who also plays Skyrim, but hasn't seen Braveheart - and he immediately saw the connection as well. Meh. Oh well. Voraxith (talk) 22:01, 25 October 2012 (GMT)

Probable inspiration for Florentius Baenius?Edit

In Fallout: New Vegas there is an insane Nightkin named Davison who lives in the basement of the REPCONN test site. Davison's relationship with his god Antler -- in particular, constantly talking to Antler and receiving answers only he can hear -- is very similar to Florentius Baenius' interactions with Arkay. 174.6.51.17 23:07, 8 March 2013 (GMT)

As you can see from the above section, priests (and other people) who say they talk directly to their god are commonplace, not just in games, but in real-life too. Silence is GoldenBreak the Silence 00:04, 9 March 2013 (GMT)

Finding FlorentiusEdit

I sided with the Vampires in Dawnguard, but I'm still trying to find Florentius so that i can learn Stendarr's Aura and Vampire's Bane (I am at the point in the game where I'm just trying to collect one of everything). I know Ruunvald is completely inaccessible to me now, but is he anywhere else in the game, so that I can find him, pacify him, and buy the spell tomes? 98.226.245.61 06:19, 25 March 2013 (GMT)

He is at Fort Dawnguard. Assuming you have not done the sidequest to kill all the Dawnguard leaders, then you should be able to go there and use a calm spell to talk to him. I haven't done this myself though. --Morrolan (talk) 14:30, 17 July 2013 (GMT)

Alchemy IngrediantEdit

All other shops and people list what they sell in a detailed manner. Not on hid page or fort dawnguard pge. Im on xbox internet so i cant read much well on here at the moment. Information is missing. It's on his page now, sorry it took so long, but hope it helps. — ABCface 20:04, 29 May 2013 (GMT)

Lost?Edit

I've completed the quest for finding him yet I can't find him anywhere at Fort Dawnguard. Help anyone? (play on 360) — Unsigned comment by 5.65.240.129 (talk) at 20:44 on 27 June 2013

He wanders around a lot in the fort. You can usually find him either by the alchemy & enchanting area or sleeping, if it's late. --Morrolan (talk) 14:32, 17 July 2013 (GMT)

His personal gold doesn't reset.Edit

Has anyone else noticed this? In my current game, I've used him for a lot of Restoration training. Now most trainer merchants, when you leave their cell, their personal gold resets to a maximum, usually 800 gold, so that when you return to them most of the extra gold you used to pay for training is not available. This guy however seems to keep all his extra gold (he was over 20K), which makes him a pretty handy place to go to get Speech experience. --Morrolan (talk) 14:35, 17 July 2013 (GMT)
